    Observation of the Ξc+\Xi_c^+ Charmed Baryon Decays to Σ+Kπ+\Sigma^+ K^-\pi^+, Σ+Kˉ0\Sigma^+ \bar{K}^{*0}, and ΛKπ+π+\Lambda K^-\pi^+\pi^+

We have observed two new decay modes of the charmed baryon Ξc+\Xi_c^+ into Σ+Kπ+\Sigma^+ K^-\pi^+ and Σ+Kˉ0\Sigma^+ \bar{K}^{*0} using data collected with the CLEO II detector. We also present the first measurement of the branching fraction for the previously observed decay mode Ξc+ΛKπ+π+\Xi_c^+\to\Lambda K^-\pi^+\pi^+. The branching fractions for these three modes relative to Ξc+Ξπ+π+\Xi_c^+\to\Xi^-\pi^+\pi^+ are measured to be 1.18±0.26±0.171.18 \pm 0.26 \pm 0.17, 0.92±0.27±0.140.92 \pm 0.27 \pm 0.14, and 0.58±0.16±0.070.58 \pm 0.16 \pm 0.07, respectively.Comment: 12 page uuencoded postscript file, postscript file also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLN

    Studies of the Cabbibo-Suppressed Decays D+π0+νD^+ \to \pi^0 \ell^+ \nu and D+ηe+νeD^+ \to \eta e^+ \nu_e

Using 4.8 fb1^{-1} of data taken with the CLEO II detector, the branching fraction for the Cabibbo-suppressed decay D+π0+νD^+\to\pi^0\ell^+\nu measured relative to the Cabibbo favored decay D+K0ˉ+νD^+\to\bar{K^0}\ell^+\nu is found to be 0.046±0.014±0.0170.046\pm 0.014\pm 0.017. Using VcsV_{cs} and VcdV_{cd} from unitarity constraints, we determine f+π(0)/f+K(0)2=0.9±0.3±0.3| f_+^{\pi}(0)/f_+^K(0)|^2=0.9\pm 0.3\pm 0.3 We also present a 90% confidence level upper limit for the branching ratio of the decay D+ηe+νeD^+ \to \eta e^+\nu_e relative to that for D+π0e+νeD^+ \to \pi^0 e^+\nu_e of 1.5.Comment: 10 page postscript file, postscript file also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLN

Modeling individual-tree mortality in Pyrenean oak (Quercus pyrenaica Willd.) stands

International audienceTree mortality is an important process in forest ecosystem dynamics and is one of the least understood phenomena, because of the complex interactions between different environmental stresses, minimal understanding of whole-plant mortality processes, and a chronic shortage of data. * A multilevel logistic regression model was developed for predicting the probability of mortality in individual trees with the objective of improving long-term planning in Spanish pyrenean oak forests. The data came from one 10-year re-measurement of the permanent plot network belonging to the Spanish National Forest Inventory distributed throughout north-west Spain. * The probability of mortality decreased with increasing individual diameter at breast height and increasing ratio of the height of subject tree to the dominant height of the sample plot. The resulting mortality model was evaluated using an independent data set from a region close to the study area. * The regeneration of pyrenean oak generally takes place through stump and/or root sprouting; so stand dynamics differ from those of others species. The model developed is expected to improve the accuracy of stand forecasts in northwest Spain

Electromagnetic compatibility analysis of unstructured mains networks for high-speed data transmission: Part 2

Different approaches are described for the characterisation of the low voltage mains network that is used for high-speed data transmission broadband over power line (BPL). Part 1 investigated the disturbance scenario of these BPL devices and importance will be given to develop a new measurement procedure in Comite Internationale Special des Perturbations Radioelectrotechnique (CISPR) to estimate the high-frequency characteristics of AC mains networks. The improvements of the measurement method that can also be applied to other wire-based telecommunication systems will also be presented. Part 2 shows the definitions and comparisons of different symmetry factors. The transfer of the results on the compliance test for BPL devices will also be depicted.Electromagnetic compatibility in diffused communications system
