Onderzoek crowdfunding
Microglial activation arises after aggregation of phosphorylated-tau in a neuron-specific P301S tauopathy mouse model
Alzheimer's disease, progressive supranuclear palsy and frontotemporal dementia are characterized by neuronal expression of aberrant tau protein, tau hyperphosphorylation (pTAU), tau aggregation and neurofibrillary tangle formation sequentially culminating into neuronal cell death, a process termed tauopathy. Our aim was to address at which tauopathy stage neuroinflammation starts and to study the related microglial phenotype. We used Thy1-hTau.P301S (PS) mice expressing human tau with a P301S mutation specifically in neurons. Significant levels of cortical pTAU were present from 2 months onwards. Dystrophic morphological complexity of cortical microglia arose after pTAU accumulation concomitant with increased microglial lysosomal volumes and a significant loss of homeostatic marker Tmem119. Interestingly, we detected increases in neuronal pTAU and postsynaptic structures in the lysosomes of PS microglia. Moreover, the overall cortical postsynaptic density was decreased in 6-month-old PS mice. Together, our results indicate that microglia adopt a pTAU-associated phenotype, and are morphologically and functionally distinct from wild-type microglia after neuronal pTAU accumulation has initiated

"They're Really PD Today": An Exploration of Mental Health Nursing Students' Perceptions of Developing a Therapeutic Relationship With Patients With a Diagnosis of Antisocial Personality Disorder
The therapeutic relationship is of particular importance when working with patients with antisocial personality disorder, but despite this, there is a paucity of literature exploring student nurses’ perceptions of developing a therapeutic relationship with such patients. Hence, this qualitative study explored the perceptions of second-year mental health nursing students of developing a therapeutic relationship with this patient group. Student nurses from a University in the Northwest of England participated in two focus groups, to compare the perceptions of a group of student nurses who had experience in secure settings (forensic hospital) with those who had not. Four key themes emerged: diagnosis, safety, engagement, and finally environmental influences. Both groups commented on looking beyond the diagnosis and seeing the person. The student nurses cited other staff in their clinical placement areas as hugely influential in terms of the development of their perceptions of patients with antisocial personality disorder and how to relate to them
Expecting the Unexpected: A Review of Surprise in Design Processes
Surprise is integral to driving creativity and innovation in design. While design research has mainly adopted a product-centered perspective to explore surprise as an emotional user response, the intricate involvement of surprise in the design process itself remains underexplored. Studies in cognitive psychology show that a comprehensive understanding of surprise must also encompass its detection, management, potential for errors, and influence on the behavior of individuals and groups. On this basis, the paper contributes a state-of-the-art literature review of two decades of design research to explore the complex functions of surprise in design processes. The paper discusses key emergent themes, including the continued relevance of Schön’s work, surprise-related error, the entwinement of process and product, and surprise in designer-AI collaboration. The paper suggests future research to enhance our limited understanding of the functions of surprise in design processes
Correlation between Postural Stability and Functional Mobility in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis
Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disorder caused by progressive erosion of articular cartilage. The joint which is commonly affected is theknee joint. Patient with knee OA has increasing pain with decreasing postural stability, and may cause decrease infunctional mobility of the body. The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between stability and mobility in patients with knee OA.Methods: A cross sectional study was performed to 43 patients from the Rheumatology Clinic of Dr. HasanSadikin General Hospital, Bandung, during September−October 2013. The ‘Timed Up and Go’ (TUG) test and stabillometric platform examination were performed to analyze the mobility and stability in subjects. The data were analyzed with Spearman’s Correlation. Results: Four subjects (9.30%) had normal functional mobility, 31 subjects (72.09%) had good mobility and need no help of others in their activities, and 8 subjects (18.60%) had problems and could not stand and walk without help. This study also found 39 subjects (90.69%) had high risk of fall. The p value were 0.005 for correlation between knee OA and lateral static postural stability, 0.138 with anteroposterior static stability, 0.067 with dynamic to position of top right stability, 0.344 with dynamic to position of top left stability, 0.384 with dynamic to position of bottom left stability and 0.357 with dynamic to position of bottom right stability. Conclusions: There is a strong correlation between functional mobility with static postural stability, especially to the lateral position. Eye blink rate predicts and dissociates the effective execution of early and late stage creative idea generation
In the present study, the correlations of eye blink rate (EBR)
with the effective execution of early and late creative idea
generation were explored. Participants engaged in a real-
world idea generation task. Resting state EBR (before the
task) and task-evoked EBR (during the task) were measured
using eye-tracking. The results showed that resting state EBR
negatively correlated with the amount of generated ideas
during early stage, but not late stage idea generation. Task-
evoked EBR did not correlate with the amount of generated
ideas during early nor late stage idea generation. However,
the change in EBR (from resting state to during early or late
stage idea generation) positively correlated with the amount
of ideas generated during early, but not during late stage idea
generation. The contribution of this study is that it shows that
EBR predicts and dissociates the effective execution of early
and late stage creative idea generation
