Predicting Destinations by Nearest Neighbor Search on Training Vessel Routes

The DEBS Grand Challenge 2018 is set in the context of maritime route prediction. Vessel routes are modeled as streams of Automatic Identification System (AIS) data points selected from real-world tracking data. The challenge requires to correctly estimate the destination ports and arrival times of vessel trips, as early as possible. Our proposed solution partitions the training vessel routes by reported destination port and uses a nearest neighbor search to find the training routes that are closer to the query AIS point. Particular improvements have been included as well, such as a way to avoid changing the predicted ports frequently within one query route and automating the parameters tuning by the use of a genetic algorithm. This leads to significant improvements on the final score

Cell Grid Architecture for Maritime Route Prediction on AIS Data Streams

The 2018 Grand Challenge targets the problem of accurate predictions on data streams produced by automatic identification system (AIS) equipment, describing naval traffic. This paper reports the technical details of a custom solution, which exposes multiple tuning parameters, making its configurability one of the main strengths. Our solution employs a cell grid architecture essentially based on a sequence of hash tables, specifically built for the targeted use case. This makes it particularly effective in prediction on AIS data, obtaining a high accuracy and scalable performance results. Moreover, the architecture proposed accommodates also an optionally semi-supervised learning process besides the basic supervised mode

ADDA and ADADA systems based on triphenylamine as molecular donors for organic photovoltaics

Three molecular donor (D) acceptor (A) systems of structure A–D–A–D–A as well as an A–D–D–A compound have been synthesized by spatial extension of reference D–A system containing a triphenylamine donor block (5). UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry and theoretical calculations show that the presence of a median acceptor group has limited effect on the internal charge transfer while direct dimerization leads to an increase of the effective conjugation length. A cursory evaluation of the new compounds as donor material in bilayer solar cells using fullerene C60 as the acceptor material shows that the presence of a median acceptor has deleterious effect on conversion efficiency while the simple dimerization of the molecule leads to a substantial improvement of the short-circuit current density and efficiency

Psychological Impact of Covid-19 Issues Appearing on Social Media

The effect of disseminating content on social media on people's psychology is discussed in this essay. The position of social media in disseminating content with the aim of informing and supplying the public with the most up-to-date information on covid-19 problems is critical. Over the pandemic, mental wellbeing conditions have worsened as a result of the widespread dissemination of inaccurate knowledge about Covid matters, causing a slew of psychiatric challenges in community. Learning difficulties, mood swing symptoms, somatic complaints, and unnecessary fear triggered by the spread of associated facts covid-19, which seems to be quite frightening and risky. The widespread dissemination of hoaxes about Covid-19 on social media has caused widespread paranoia and terror, leading to panic shopping, which has culminated in skyrocketing costs for essential necessities due to shortages, to the point that surgical masks and hand sanitizers are no longer accessible. It not only causes erroneous beliefs, but it also causes uncertainty and anxiety, as well as affecting people's mental health

IMPROVING THE TEACHERS' SKILLS FOR THE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

The expertise of the teaching staff to organize the didactic activity and to manage the pupils' behavior is of major importance for achieving school performance, especially under the conditions of frequent changes in the education system, the digitization process, the numerous discipline problems in schools, the various expectations of the professional environment, of the civil society, of teachers or of parents. Teachers must lead pupils' behavior and also must prevent and act in unexpected situations using the most appropriate classroom management strategies to create a positive climate conducive to learning. The aims of the current study are to identify the challenges that teachers are facing in the classroom management at various age levels of pupils and to analyses their needs of training in order to improve the professional skills in this area. A number of 97 teachers from all four levels of pre-university education have answered a questionnaire with three semi-directive questions that targeted the following aspects related to the classroom management: the most common problems that teachers face in the classroom management; the examples of management problems from their own professional practice; the knowledge or skills that teachers would need to improve for a better classroom management. The content analysis of the teachers' answers highlighted as the most common categories of challenges in classroom management the following: the discipline problems, the teacher’s poor collaboration with pupil’s families, the management of the social and emotional environment of the class, the lack of material resource or the insufficient space in classroom. In terms of the teachers' training needs for a better classroom management, the analysis showed a grouping of answers around the following aspects: specific intervention strategies, techniques and tools in disciplinary cases, communicating with pupils, communicating and working with the pupils’ parents, specific methods and techniques to make teaching-learning more efficient, knowledge in child psychology. The information obtained through the current study can contribute to the design of continuous training programs for teachers and to the introduction of discussion topics focused upon the identified problems into the curriculum for the initial training of pupils who wish to pursue a teaching career
