CHANGING PARADIGM IN OCULAR TRAUMA OVER 15 YEARS
Background: Changing profile of work force can give rise different types of injuries
Purpose: To analyze causative factors (Host-Agent-Event) in ocular trauma over last 15 years
Methods: Hospital based prospective study during 1997-2012.Detailed information on nature of trauma; agent and setting were recorded.
Results: Cohort included 12365 eye injuries, 1241 serious cases. Prevalence - 0.45 /10000 Mean age 45.8 with bi- modal pattern of incidence, 3:1 male –female ratio.80% closed globe, 48% workplace injury (90% in marginal laborers with an exponential annual increase).10% cases from garage mechanics.60% of eye injuries in female were related to “social violence”. Multivariate analysis has detected new causative agents.
Conclusion: Significant change in parameters of trauma (Host-Agent-Event) is resulting in paradigm shift in eye injury. Unorganized unaccustomed labor in workplace injury and “social trauma” in females has become an important cause of eye injury
Effects of different animal manures on yield quality and nutrient uptake by Mustard CV. Agrani
A pot experiment was carried out at the researcher’s net house of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh from November 2003 to February 2004 to find out the effects of different animal manure on yield, quality and nutrient uptake by mustard cv. Agrani. The experiment
comprised of two levels of cage system poultry manure, deep litter system poultry manure, cow dung and bio-gas slurry viz. 10 and 20 ton ha-1, one control and one chemical fertilizer @ recommended dose. Cage system poultry manure @ 20 ton ha-1 significantly increased the seed and straw yield of mustard and cow dung showed lower performance. In straw and seed the highest
uptake of N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S was obtained from cage system poultry manure @ 20 ton ha-1. Protein and oil content was also found higher in this treatment. Seed yield was found to be significantly and positively correlated with branch and effective pod per plant. Protein and oil contents of mustard seeds were increased with increasing level of animal manures though their effects were not significant. A positive and significant correlation was observed between protein
and oil contents of mustard cv. Agrani. The overall results suggest that cage system poultry manure @ 20 ton ha-1 gave best performance among the parameters studied
Challenges in managing pubic ramus fractures Routine Computed Tomography for all pubic ramus fractures- Is there a role?
Posterior pelvic ring injury (PPRI) can be often overlooked if solely based on plain radiographs. There is paucity of literature correlating between pubic ramus fracture and concomitant PPRI in elderly patients
Neotenic Representations in Gerald Durrell’s Works
Neoteny refers to a set of infant-like characteristics which, if present in even adult non-human animals, are found endearing by humans and activates nurturing responses in them. These features are large eyes, short limbs, a large head compared to the body, upright posture and a generally rounded configuration etc. Konrad Lorenz calls these features collectively as ‘child schema.’ In culture industries, toy and doll-makers, as well as cartoon film-makers, exploit this tendency of their consumers to increase their sales by representing animals neotenically. It is a process of deliberate juvenilization. Though a form of anthropocentric representation, Gerald Durrell has shown in his works how neoteny can be used ecocentrically to change human attitudes towards neglected and so-called ‘ugly’ creatures. Combined often with anthropomorphism, neoteny becomes a potent tool in Durrell’s hands to fight anthropocentrism and promote ecocentrism
Ancient India and Inclusive Education
Ancient India thus remains a flexible and still fully unexplored terrain that cannot be simplistically branded as rigid and casteist or apathetic to women when it comes to equality in education and inclusion in society. Again various evidence shows that it would be wrong to assume that ancient Indic traditions were outright supporter of women’s education and holistic inclusion. The culture in ancient India and the evolving trends were volatile and chequered and calls for more intensive and extensive studies. This paper aims at exploring the ambiguous developments related to the education of the so called lower castes and how the age old theory of a rigid caste system and rigid norms against inclusion of women in India, that gave rise to social exclusion is practically not absolute and remains a grey zone to be brought under the scanner. In fact this paper attempts to bring to the forefront the instances that reveal that ancient India was more inclusive in philosophy and practice than its western counterparts
Psychological Impact Of Chronic Dermatological Condition: A Cross Sectional Study
Background: Chronic dermatological conditions such as psoriasis, vitiligo, acne, and atopic dermatitis are known to have significant psychological implications due to their visible and persistent nature. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and severity of depression, anxiety, and stress among patients with chronic skin diseases in a tertiary care setting in Bangladesh. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Dermatology and Psychiatry, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) from January to December 2022. A total of 350 patients with clinically diagnosed chronic dermatological conditions were enrolled using purposive sampling. Psychological distress was assessed using the validated Bangla version of the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21). Associations between skin conditions and psychological outcomes were analyzed using the Chi-square test. A p-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The majority of participants were aged 26–35 years (34.0%), with 54.0% being female. Psoriasis was the most common condition (28.9%), followed by acne (26.3%), vitiligo (22.9%), and atopic dermatitis (22.0%). Moderate to extremely severe depression and anxiety were observed in 45.4% and 45.7% of participants, respectively, while 30.8% reported similar levels of stress. Atopic dermatitis patients had the highest mean DASS-21 scores across all domains. Significant associations were found between atopic dermatitis and severe depression and anxiety (p = 0.01), and between psoriasis and psychological distress (p = 0.03). Conclusion: A considerable proportion of patients with chronic dermatological conditions experience psychological distress. Routine mental health screening should be integrated into dermatological care to ensure holistic patient management
A Review on Kharbuja Rasala: A Traditional Ayurvedic Functional Dairy Product
Rasala is a traditional Ayurvedic recipe mentioned in Ayurvedic classical books, also known as ‘Shikharini’ in Sanskrit. Various Acharya have mentioned that it is a summer preparation made with curd. Investigating Employee Green Behavior through Perceived Organizational Support for the Environment in the Hotel Industry: A Moderated-Mediation Analysis
Purpose - This study investigates the role of perceived organizational support for the environment (POS-E) on employee green behavior (EGB). It also examines the mediating role of employee environmental commitment (EEC) and green work climate (GWC), as well as the moderating role of employee green awareness.
Method - Data were collected from 247 hotel employees located at Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh applying convenient sampling. Data were analyzed using the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique and SPSS.
Results - Findings reveal that POS-E positively influences EGB while EEC and GWC fully mediate the association between POS-E and EGB. Findings also show that POS-E on EEC and GWC is more significant when employees have greater ecological awareness.
Implications - The findings imply that the hospitality firms’ ecological POS can improve employee green behavior. Empayees’ ecological awareness also plays an important role in such behavior.
Originality – The study contributes to the existing literature in the context of the hospitality industry by filling up the gap in exploring the mechanism through which POS influences employee behavior
Mapping the Dynamics of Sustainable Relationships between India and Bangladesh in Modi’s Era
The acquaintanceship between India and Bangladesh started in 1971during the liberation war in Bangladesh, and is evolving satisfyingly well. India follows neighborhood first policy in helping Bangladesh and always tries to maintain a good rapo with Bangladesh and Bangladesh also reciprocates the same. India initiated different government and non- government projects to solidify the bond of friendship with Bangladesh, specifically during Modi’s era. From supplying humanitarian kits to Bangladesh during covid to building pipeline for transport of fuel to Bangladesh. Not only this, India is also supplying electricity to Bangladesh to meet its power crisis. Every year India is receiving the highest number of medical tourist from Bangladesh, who visits India to get better healthcare facilities. India has also signed many of bilateral ties with Bangladesh for which loan facilities are also given to Bangladesh from India. But this sustainable nature of India is creating a dependency culture for Bangladesh. The aim of this current paper is to find the ups and downs between these two countries and why India is helping only Bangladesh more, compared to other neighbors. Methodology used in writing this paper is mainly descriptive and qualitative in nature
