Parasitoid Quality of Gronotoma micromorpha Parasitizing Liriomyza huidobrensis on Chinese Cabbage and Soybean
A study with the aim to investigate the quality of Gronotoma micromorpha which attack the immature developmental stages of Liriomyza huidobrensis has been carried out. Such variables as body length measured from caput to the tip of abdomen, wing span and the length of tibia of hind leg were measured to represent parasitoid quality. The immature developmental stage period of the parasitoid was also recorded. The result indicated that a better quality Gronotoma was obtained when it was developed in the Liriomyza larvae fed on chinese cabbage with the average of 123.85 ??m for body length, 253.45 ??m for wing span, and 42.85 ??m for the length of hind tibia, respectively. When Gronotoma was developed in the Liriomyza larvae fed on soy bean, its size became smaller with the average of 97.7 ??m for body length, 214.3 ??m for wing span, and 37.2 ??m for the hind tibia. When it is developed in the Liriomyza on chinese cabbage host plant the immature developmental period of Gronotoma is sligthly shorter with the average of 18.4 and 17.3 days for which developed in the larvae and pupa respectively and on soy bean it become longer with the average of 19.2 days for in eggs, 19.9 days for that in the larvae. On chinese cabbage, Liriomyza tend to have bigger size for both flies and pupae

The Time Evolution of a Square Wave Packet and a Triangular Wave Packet
In this article, we discuss the time evolution of a square wave packet and a triangular wave packet. The approach followed in this study is to express a square wave packet and a triangular wave packet as a sum of several Gaussian wave packets. Specifically, the time evolution of a square wave packet has been derived here with three and five Gaussian wave packets; then the time evolution of a triangular wave packet has been derived with three Gaussian wave packets. Their evolution with time has been plotted using MatLabTM over appropriately chosen time intervals. The results are compared with those of a Gaussian wave packe

Complement Split Product C5a Mediates the Lipopolysaccharide‐Induced Mobilization of Cfu‐S and Haemopoietic Progenitor Cells, But Not the Mobilization Induced By Proteolytic Enzymes
Abstract. Intravenous (i.v.) injection of mice with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), and the proteolytic enzymes trypsin and proteinase, mobilizes pluripotent haemopoietic stem cells (CFU‐s) as well as granulocyte‐macrophage progenitor cells (GM‐CFU) and the early progenitors of the erythroid lineage (E‐BFU) from the haemopoietic tissues into the peripheral blood. We investigated the involvement of the complement (C) system in this process. It appeared that the early mobilization induced by LPS and other activators of the alternative complement pathway, such as Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) and zymosan, but not that induced by the proteolytic enzymes, was absent in C5‐deficient mice. the mobilization by C activators in these mice could be restored by injection of C5‐sufficient serum, suggesting a critical role for C5. The manner in which C5 was involved in the C activation‐mediated stem cell mobilization was studied using a serum transfer system. C5‐sufficient serum, activated in vitro by incubation with Lm and subsequently liberated from the bacteria, caused mobilization in both C5‐sufficient and C5‐deficient mice. C5‐deficient serum was not able to do so. the resistance of the mobilizing principle to heat treatment (56°C, 30 min) strongly suggests that it is identical with the C5 split product C5a, or an in vivo derivative of C5a. This conclusion was reinforced by the observation that a single injection of purified rat C5a into C5‐deficient mice also induced mobilization of CFU‐s. Copyrigh
THE USE OF ENDOPHYTIC FUNGI AS BIOPESTICIDE AGAINST DOWNY MILDEW PERONOSCLEROSPORA SPP. ON MAIZE
Downy mildew is a major disease of maize caused by the fungus Peronosclerospora spp., widely distributed in all corn production centers in Indonesia. The disease can cause considerable losses; even total losses have been reported occurring on susceptible varieties. The purpose of the research was to determine the effectiveness of some isolates of endophytic fungi for the control of downy mildew on maize. The study consisted of four isolate treatments: Aspergillus spp., Trichoderma spp, Beauveria spp., Gliocladium spp., applied as seed treatment at planting and as flour formulation on rhizosphere 20 days after planting. Results showed that the average downy mildew disease intensity on the plots treated with Beauveria sp. was consistently lower than the control plots. The number of healthy plant was also consistently higher in the plots treated with Beauveria sp. than those in the untreated plots. Endophytism study results showed that Aspergillus spp. was not found in any part of the plant tissue. Triichoderma spp. and Beauveria spp. were found on 14%, and 2% of the root pieces observed, respectively. Whereas Gliocladium spp., was reisolated from stem and leaf with the percentages of 16% and 92%, respectively. None of the tested isolates was detected in maize seed

Low Mannose-Binding Lectin (MBL) genotype is associated with future cardiovascular events in type 2 diabetic South Asians. A prospective cohort study
Background: South Asians have a high burden of type 2 diabetes and vascular complications. Vascular inflammation is considered central in the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis, and the complement system is thought to play an important role. Mannose-Binding Lectin (MBL), which activates the lectin pathway of complement activation, has been introduced as a risk marker of vascular damage. The present study explores the association of MBL levels, genotype and cardiovascular events in type 2 diabetic South Asians. Methods: We conducted a prospective observational study. A cohort consisting of 168 type 2 diabetic South Asians was followed for a median duration of 7.66 years. At baseline, MBL levels and genotype were determined. The association with future cardiovascular events was assessed by Cox proportional hazard regression. Results: During follow-up, 31 cardiovascular events occurred in 22 subjects (11 men, 11 women). The O/O genotype was significantly associated with the occurrence of cardiovascular events (hazard ratio 3.42, 95%CI 1.24-9.49, P = 0.018). However, log MBL levels were not associated with the occurrence of cardiovascular events (hazard ratio 0.93, 95% CI 0.50-1.73).Conclusions: In type 2 diabetic South Asians, the O/O MBL genotype is associated with cardiovascular events, although single serum MBL levels are not
