Anchorage evaluation of dental implants irradiated with GaAIAs laser (830nm)
The aim of the present study was to evaluate titanium implants fixed with free rotation in rabbit's tibia and irradiatedwith GaAlAs laser (4.3Joules/daily, 830nm wavelength, 12mW and 51 seconds) using a digital torquimeter. Thirty malerabbits were divided into two groups (Laser and Control) and subdivided according to their death day 15 (L1 and C1), 30(L2 and C2) and 45 (L3 and C3) after surgery. A digital torquimeter evaluated the torque needed for removing theimplants, breaking their union to the bone. The results were submitted to Student's "t" test and ANOVA test, in order tovalidate these findings. It was observed an increase on removal torque values of irradiated implants both with 15 and 30days after surgery, in comparison to control groups. With 45 days, there was no statistically significant difference between theLaser and Control groups values. It was concluded that Laser group showed a higher value in the removal torque whencompared to non-irradiated implants
A percepção do belo e a proporção divina
The aesthetic knowledge concerning the face one is widely important for the professionals of the Dentistry area and, moreover, it is of interest of the people of a general form. It has a trend, while professional, of if imposing the aesthetic values when really can be to observe the values of the proper individual. Many are the studies that present, of clear form, the differences between the individuals, as patient or people independent, how to its preferences, if compared with the ideas of beauty of the professionals of different areas. Being thus, objective in this chapter to integrate the reader to the presentation of the aesthetic one, not only in the scientific aspect, as measurable and quantitative object, as also in the artistic and social aspect. How to the beauty, the perception that if has of the things in day-by-day is basically utilitarian and conceptual. It has a bigger trend in if to perceive the things by means of the concepts proceeding from the language of the one that really eat is capable to sensitize our directions. However, it fits to remember that the language classifies and appraises the feelings, but is extremely impotent to describe them. It must always be had in mind that is in the sensible one - and not in the conceptual one, in the intellectual - that inhabits the being of the aesthetic object
Proposta de contenção mista em fraturas mandibulares
The selection of the technique for mandibular fractures fixation, when there is the involvement of any alveolarfragment, should comply some requirements for the osteosyntesis systems and should be aware for the radicularstructures maintenance. It's proposed in this article, a mixed for mandibular fractures when it's involved alveolarfragments
Ultrasonic tips in periradicular surgery
Technological advances have increased the rate of success of dental procedures. In periradicular surgery, the use of ultrasonictips ensures high-quality root-end cavity preparations, enables the performance of a 90-degree apicoectomy, and removeslarger amounts of contaminated material. The authors reviewed in vitro and in vivo studies in the literature andevaluated root-end cavities prepared with burs or ultrasonic tips using scanning electron microscopy
Fraturas do arco zigomático: cerclagem de contenção
This work proposes an alternative technique for zygomatic fractures contention. Steel wire cerclage supportsan 1.5 Kirchner wire shaped in double U by cutaneous anchorage. This technique can be indicated in casesof closed reduction of zigomatic arch fractures without fixation that may loose reduction if not properlyprotected
Orbital floor reconstruction with high density polyethylene
Surgical interventions in blow out fractures are generally indicated in cases of alterations in orbital function (e.g. diplopia)and for aesthetic reasons (e.g. enophthalmos). In assessing the severity of the injury, the clinician often uses parameterssuch as changes in visual acuity, patient-reported diplopia, changes in globe position and evaluation of the extraocularmuscles in association with imaging exams. Computed tomography has been the modality of choice for detailed imagingdiagnosis and surgical planning of orbital trauma. High density polyethylene may be successfully used in orbital floorreconstruction to restore function and esthetics. Taking into account the follow up of six months, the availability and theadvantages of high density polyethylene implants, it can be concluded that their use in reconstruction of orbital floordefects is a good choice
Semiologia da articulação temporomandibular
The base for the diagnosis of cause and effect is an agreement of the normal form and its relation with the function. It can still be considered that if it does not find a riot in the function, without a corresponding degree of alteration in the structure. Therefore, and for the fact of that a basic knowledge of the sthomatognatic system starts with the joint to temporomandibular (TMJ), it is basic the structural and anatomical study of this structure. The TMJ is a set of anatomical structures that, with the participation of special muscular groups, they make possible to the mandible to execute varied movements during the chew. Biaxial complex is classified in the synovial category, having had as component anatomical the articulate surfaces, the articulate disc, the capsules, the ligaments, beyond the synovial membranes. The articulate surfaces are formed by a surface of the head of the mandible and by a surface of the articulate part of the temporal bone. The situations will be presented all here that the TMJ can be involved as the Anatomy, Physiology, Histology, Pathology, Examinations, Diagnosis, Diagnosis for image, Riots, Trauma and the Treatment
Analysis of the morphology and composition of tooth apices apicectomized using three different ablation techniques
Objectives: To investigate apicectomies performed using burs, a CO2 laser or an Er:YAG laser and to evaluate the following aspects: morphology of apicectomized surfaces, presence of failures at the dentin/obturation material interface (marginal fit) of the apical portions of the root canals, and the proportions of chemical elements in the apicectomized surfaces. Study design: Twenty-four teeth were divided into three groups of eight and each group underwent apicectomy by one of three different ablation techniques: bur, CO2 laser or Er:YAG laser. The morphology of the apicectomized surfaces was then analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and their chemical composition was analyzed by energy dispersive spectroscopy. Results: Surfaces produced with ablation by bur exhibited less surface irregularities and better marginal fit, while ablation with the CO2 laser caused intense surface carbonization and failures in obturation material fit. Conclusions: Our results suggest that, taking into consideration their clinical application, ablation of tooth apices using burs proved to be the best option among those tested here
Prospective study of a group of pre-university students evaluating anxiety and depression relationships with temporomandibular disorders
Objectives: The aim of this prospective longitudinal study was to evaluate the relationships between anxiety, depression,
and temporomandibular disorders (TMD) in a sample of pre-university students submitted to a stressful
event.
Study design: 153 students from a pre-university course (82 females and 71 males between 16 and 31 years old)
were given a survey about TMD symptoms and a survey about anxiety and depression scale at the beginning and
the end of the preparatory course (August 2009-T1, and November 2009-T2).
Results: Results were analyzed using a chi-square test and Odds Ratio (OR), significance level of á = 0.05. Statistical
significance were found to depression rates in students with TMD (16% on T1 and 26% on T2, p = 0.001) as
well as in general sample (12% on T1 and 22% on T2, p = 0.009), anxiety and TMD symptoms presented constant
rates in both periods. Increased risk of having TMD were found in participants with anxiety (OR 2.6 in T2 and 5.6
in T1) and depression (2.0 in T2 and 3.3 in T1), but only anxiety reach statistical significance in both periods.
Conclusions: TMD symptoms were a fluctuating variable that exchange between some individuals of this study.
Independently of the TMD, depression rates significant increased in the evaluated period. Finally, anxiety was the
psychological symptom related to the increased risk of having TMD
Analgesic action of laser therapy (LLLT) in an animal model
Objectives: To evaluate the analgesic effect of laser therapy on healthy tissue of mice. Study design: Forty-five animals were divided in three groups of 15: A ? infrared laser irradiation (830 nm, Kondortech®, São Carlos, SP, Brazil); B ? red laser irradiation (660 nm, Kondortech®, São Carlos, SP, Brazil); C ? sham irradiation with laser unit off. After laser application, the mice remained immobilized for the injection of 30 µl of 2% formalin in the plantar pad of the irradiated hind paw. The time that the mouse kept the hind paw lifted was measured at 5 min intervals for 30 minutes. Results: Results showed statistically significant differences comparing the control group with the infrared laser group at 5, 20, 25 and 30 accumulated minutes, and with the red laser group at all time points. The analysis of partial times, at each 5 minutes, showed statistically significant differences between the control and the laser groups up to 20 minutes. Conclusions: Laser therapy had an analgesic effect and red laser had the best results
