Constraining dark energy
In this paper we propose a mechanism that protects theories violating a
holographic bound suggested in arXiv:1203.5476 from developing accelerated
expansion. The mechanism builts on work on transplanckian physics, and a
non-trivial choice of vacuum states. If correct, it lends further support for

Transplanckian energy production and slow roll inflation
In this paper we investigate how the energy density due to a non-standard
choice of initial vacuum affects the expansion of the universe during
inflation. To do this we introduce source terms in the Friedmann equations
making sure that we respect the relation between gravity and thermodynamics. We
find that the energy production automatically implies a slow rolling
cosmological constant. Hence we also conclude that there is no well defined
value for the cosmological constant in the presence of sources. We speculate

Repetition of contaminating question types when children and youths with intellectual disabilities are interviewed
Background The present study examined the effects of repeating questions in interviews investigating the possible sexual abuse of children and youths who had a variety of intellectual disabilities. We predicted that the repetition of option-posing and suggestive questions would lead the suspected victims to change their responses, making it difficult to understand what actually happened. Inconsistency can be a key factor when assessing the reliability of witnesses. Materials Case files and transcripts of investigative interviews with 33 children and youths who had a variety of intellectual disabilities were obtained from prosecutors in Sweden. The interviews involved 25 females and 9 males whose chronological ages were between 5.4 and 23.7 years when interviewed (M = 13.2 years). Results Six per cent of the questions were repeated at least once. The repetition of focused questions raised doubts about the reports because the interviewees changed their answers 40% of the time. Conclusions Regardless of the witnesses' abilities, it is important to obtain reports that are as accurate and complete as possible in investigative interviews. Because this was a field study, we did not know which responses were accurate, but repetitions of potentially contaminating questions frequently led the interviewees to contradict their earlier answers. This means that the interviewers' behaviour diminished the usefulness of the witnesses' testimony
Review of AIDS development
The operation and implementation of the aircraft integrated data system AIDS are described. The system is described as an engineering tool with strong emphasis on analysis of recorded information. The AIDS is primarily directed to the monitoring of parameters related to: the safety of the flight; the performance of the aircraft; the performance of the flight guidance system; and the performance and condition of the engines. The system provide short term trend analysis on a trend chart that is updated by the flight engineer on every flight that lasts more than 4 flight hours. Engine data prints are automatically presented during take-off and in the case of limit excedance, e.g., the print shows an automatically reported impending hotstarts on engine nr. 1. Localised anti-branes in non-compact throats at zero and finite T
We investigate the 3-form singularities that are typical to anti-brane
solutions in supergravity and check whether they can be cloaked by a finite
temperature horizon. For anti-D3-branes in the Klebanov-Strassler background,
this was already shown numerically to be impossible when the branes are
partially smeared. In this paper, we present analytic arguments that also
localised branes remain with singular 3-form fluxes at both zero and finite
temperature. These results may have important, possibly fatal, consequences for
constructions of meta-stable de Sitter vacua through uplifting.Comment: 18 + 9 page
10 + 1 to 3 + 1 in an Early Universe with mutually BPS Intersecting Branes
We assume that the early universe is homogeneous, anisotropic, and is
dominated by the mutually BPS 22'55' intersecting branes of M theory. The
spatial directions are all taken to be toroidal. Using analytical and numerical
methods, we study the evolution of such an universe. We find that,
asymptotically, three spatial directions expand to infinity and the remaining
spatial directions reach stabilised values. Any stabilised values can be
obtained by a fine tuning of initial brane densities. We give a physical
description of the stabilisation mechanism. Also, from the perspective of four
dimensional spacetime, the effective four dimensional Newton's constant G_4 is
now time varying. Its time dependence will follow from explicit solutions. We
find in the present case that, asymptotically, G_4 exhibits characteristic log

Universal dS vacua in STU-models
Stable de Sitter solutions in minimal F-term supergravity are known to lie
close to Minkowski critical points. We consider a class of STU-models arising
from type IIB compactifications with generalised fluxes. There, we apply an
analytical method for solving the equations of motion for the moduli fields
based on the idea of treating derivatives of the superpotential of different
orders up to third as independent objects. In particular, supersymmetric and
no-scale Minkowski solutions are singled out by physical reasons. Focusing on
the study of dS vacua close to supersymmetric Minkowski points, we are able to
elaborate a complete analytical treatment of the mass matrix based on the
sGoldstino bound. This leads to a class of interesting universal dS vacua. We
finally explore a similar possibility around no-scale Minkowski points and

(Anti-)Brane backreaction beyond perturbation theory
We improve on the understanding of the backreaction of anti-D6-branes in a
flux background that is mutually BPS with D6-branes. This setup is analogous to
the study of the backreaction of anti-D3-branes inserted in the KS throat, but
does not require us to smear the anti-branes or do a perturbative analysis
around the BPS background. We solve the full equations of motion near the
anti-D6-branes and show that only two boundary conditions are consistent with
the equations of motion. Upon invoking a topological argument we eliminate the
boundary condition with regular H flux since it cannot lead to a solution that
approaches the right kind of flux away from the anti-D6-brane. This leaves us
with a boundary condition which has singular, but integrable, H flux energy

Mimicking transPlanckian effects in the CMB with conventional physics
We investigate the possibility that fields coupled to the inflaton can
influence the primordial spectrum of density perturbations through their
coherent motion. For example, the second field in hybrid inflation might be
oscillating at the beginning of inflation rather than at the minimum of its
potential. Although this effect is washed out if inflation lasts long enough,
we note that there can be up to 30 e-foldings of inflation prior to horizon
crossing of COBE fluctuations while still giving a potentially visible
distortion. Such pumping of the inflaton fluctuations by purely conventional
physics can resemble transPlanckian effects which have been widely discussed.
The distortions which they make to the CMB could leave a distinctive signature
