    An achromatic polarization retarder realized with slowly varying linear and circular birefringence

    Using the phenomena of linear and circular birefringence we propose a device that can alter general elliptical polarization of a beam by a predetermined amount, thereby allowing conversion between linearly-polarized light and circularly polarized light or changes to the handedness of the polarization. Based on an analogy with two-state adiabatic following of quantum optics, the proposed device is insensitive to the frequency of the light -- it serves as an achromatic polarization retarder

    Broadband adiabatic conversion of light polarization

    A broadband technique for robust adiabatic rotation and conversion of light polarization is proposed. It uses the analogy between the equation describing the polarization state of light propagating through an optically anisotropic medium and the Schrodinger equation describing coherent laser excitation of a three-state atom. The proposed techniques is analogous to the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) technique in quantum optics; it is applicable to a wide range of frequencies and it is robust to variations in the ropagation length

    The aim is to investigate the influence of the orientation of the two-refracting crystals on the polarization light state in the system of several crystal, possibility of the adiabatic following light polarization in the smooth changes of medium anisotropy parameters, influence of the external magnetic field on the light propagation direction on the fiber light guide output. The methods for synthesis of the polarization systems with given properties consisting of the set of the two-refracting crystals have been developed. The component polarization devices with properties of the half-wave and quarter-wave plate, which can be tuned to the required wavelength have been created. The computer modeling for the linear-polarized light into the circular-polarized one in the heterogeneous anisotropic medium with optic activity can be used for creation of the polarization converters which don't have the dependence upon the wavelenegth and light fall angle.     At present time, in control systems, an electromechanical drive, which includes a reduction gear, is widely used. To ensure the quality of the output movement of the drive, it is not enough synthesize it according to the criteria of performance and accuracy. With increasing requirements for drives, the need arose for such an indicator of the quality of dynamics as smoothness [1], which is mainly influenced by the quality of the mechanical transmission production. The article provides an example of modeling a reduction gear taking into account multi-massage, the number of teeth, geometric errors of tooth-engagement, imbalance of the engine rotor. The spectrum of speed fluctuations of the output link is obtained, which characterizes the smoothness of the reduction gear operation. A conclusion is made about the prospect of using a model approach to diagnose the smooth operation of reduction gears.</jats:p

    Methodology for Model Research of Gearbox Functioning

    An imitation model of a gear reducer is considered, taking into account its gear ratio, multi-mass, friction, and gearing errors. The structures of individual components and the general model of the reducer is presented. The spectrum of speed fluctuations of the output link of the reducer is obtained and a comparison is made with the spectrum of vibration speed obtained using a vibration analyzer on a real object. The approach proposed in the work makes it possible to establish the nature of the reasons causing the gearbox vibration.</jats:p
