Resummation of the jet broadening in DIS
We calculate the leading and next-to-leading logarithmic resummed
distribution for the jet broadening in deep inelastic scattering, as well as
the power correction for both the distribution and mean value. A truncation of
the answer at NLL accuracy, as is standard, leads to unphysical divergences. We
discuss their origin and show how the problem can be resolved. We then examine
DIS-specific procedures for matching to fixed-order calculations and compare
our results to data. One of the tools developed for the comparison is an NLO
parton distribution evolution code. When compared to PDF sets from MRST and
CTEQ it reveals limited discrepancies in both.Comment: 48 pages, 7 figure
Mass Deformations of Super Yang-Mills Theories in D= 2+1, and Super-Membranes: A Note
Mass deformations of supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories in three spacetime
dimensions are considered. The gluons of the theories are made massive by the
inclusion of a non-local gauge and Poincare invariant mass term due to
Alexanian and Nair, while the matter fields are given standard Gaussian
mass-terms. It is shown that the dimensional reduction of such mass deformed
gauge theories defined on or produces matrix quantum
mechanics with massive spectra. In particular, all known massive matrix quantum
mechanical models obtained by the deformations of dimensional reductions of
minimal super Yang-Mills theories in diverse dimensions are shown also to arise
from the dimensional reductions of appropriate massive Yang-Mills theories in
three spacetime dimensions. Explicit formulae for the gauge theory actions are
provided.Comment: 20 Page
Triggering collective oscillations by three-flavor effects
Collective flavor transformations in supernovae, caused by neutrino-neutrino
interactions, are essentially a two-flavor phenomenon driven by the atmospheric
mass difference and the small mixing angle theta_13. In the two-flavor
approximation, the initial evolution depends logarithmically on theta_13 and
the system remains trapped in an unstable fixed point for theta_13 = 0.
However, any effect breaking exact nu_mu-nu_tau equivalence triggers the
conversion. Such three-flavor perturbations include radiative corrections to
weak interactions, small differences between the nu_mu and nu_tau fluxes, or
non-standard interactions. Therefore, extremely small values of theta_13 are in
practice equivalent, the fate of the system depending only on the neutrino
spectra and their mass ordering.Comment: 6 pages, including 3 figures (slightly modified to match the

Resummation
We review the work discussed and developed under the topic ``Resummation'' at
Working Group 2 ``Multijet final states and energy flow'', of the HERA-LHC
Workshop. We emphasise the role played by HERA observables in the development
of resummation tools via, for instance, the discovery and resummation of
non-global logarithms. We describe the event-shapes subsequently developed for
hadron colliders and present resummed predictions for the same using the
automated resummation program CAESAR. We also point to ongoing studies at HERA
which can be of benefit for future measurements at hadron colliders such as the
LHC, specifically dijet and angular spectra and the transverse momentum
of the Breit current hemisphere.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures. Submitted to the HERA-LHC workshop proceeding
Third-Generation TB-LMTO
We describe the screened Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker (KKR) method and the
third-generation linear muffin-tin orbital (LMTO) method for solving the
single-particle Schroedinger equation for a MT potential. The simple and
popular formalism which previously resulted from the atomic-spheres
approximation (ASA) now holds in general, that is, it includes downfolding and
the combined correction. Downfolding to few-orbital, possibly short-ranged,
low-energy, and possibly orthonormal Hamiltonians now works exceedingly well,
as is demonstrated for a high-temperature superconductor. First-principles sp3
and sp3d5 TB Hamiltonians for the valence and lowest conduction bands of
silicon are derived. Finally, we prove that the new method treats overlap of
the potential wells correctly to leading order and we demonstrate how this can
be exploited to get rid of the empty spheres in the diamond structure.Comment: latex2e, 32 printed pages, Postscript figs, to be published in:

The Qt distribution of the Breit current hemisphere in DIS as a probe of small-x broadening effects
We study the distribution 1/sigma dsigma/dQt, where Qt is the modulus of the
transverse momentum vector, obtained by summing over all hadrons, in the
current hemisphere of the DIS Breit frame. We resum the large logarithms in the
small Qt region, to next-to--leading logarithmic accuracy, including the
non-global logarithms involved. We point out that this observable is simply
related to the Drell-Yan vector boson and predicted Higgs Qt spectra at hadron
colliders. Comparing our predictions to existing HERA data thus ought to be a
valuable source of information on the role or absence of small-x (BFKL)
effects, neglected in conventional resummations of such quantities.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures, uses JHEP3.cl
