Inverse scattering results for manifolds hyperbolic near infinity
We study the inverse resonance problem for conformally compact manifolds
which are hyperbolic outside a compact set. Our results include compactness of
isoresonant metrics in dimension two and of isophasal negatively curved metrics
in dimension three. In dimensions four or higher we prove topological

Chondroitin Sulfate Proteoglycans Are Associated with the Lesions of Alzheimer\u27s Disease
Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPG) are extracellular matrix proteins inhibitory to neurite outgrowth in vitro and correlated with decreased neurite outgrowth after CNS injury. Previously, heparan sulfate proteoglycan and dermatan sulfate proteoglycan have been shown to be associated with senile plaques (SPs) and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) but CSPG was not. In an immunocytochemical study, three monoclonal antibodies to different sulfation states of the chondroitin glycosaminoglycan were used to localize CSPG in cases of Alzheimer\u27s disease. Chondroitin 4-sulfate was found in both SPs and NFTs. An antibody to unsulfated chondroitin strongly immunostained intracellular NFTs and the dystrophic neurites of SPs. Chondroitin 6-sulfate was found in NFTs and the area around SPs. These results suggest that CSPG, in addition or as an alternative to B-amyloid protein, could be responsible for the regression of neurites around senile plaques in Alzheimer\u27s disease
Spin orbit alignment for KELT-7b and HAT-P-56b via Doppler tomography with TRES
We present Doppler tomographic analyses for the spectroscopic transits of
KELT-7b and HAT-P-56b, two hot-Jupiters orbiting rapidly rotating F-dwarf host
stars. These include analyses of archival TRES observations for KELT-7b, and a
new TRES transit observation of HAT-P-56b. We report spin-orbit aligned
geometries for KELT-7b (2.7 +/- 0.6 deg) and HAT-P-56b (8 +/- 2 deg). The host
stars KELT-7 and HAT-P-56 are among some of the most rapidly rotating
planet-hosting stars known. We examine the tidal re-alignment model for the
evolution of the spin-orbit angle in the context of the spin rates of these
stars. We find no evidence that the rotation rates of KELT-7 and HAT-P-56 have
been modified by star-planet tidal interactions, suggesting that the spin-orbit
angle of systems around these hot stars may represent their primordial
configuration. In fact, KELT-7 and HAT-P-56 are two of three systems in
super-synchronous, spin-orbit aligned states, where the rotation periods of the
host stars are faster than the orbital periods of the planets.Comment: 9 pages, accepted for publication in MNRA
Glial Cell Extracellular Matrix in Alzheimer’s Disease
Many studies have yielded conflicting results regarding the toxicity of AB, the peptide which is the principal component of senile plaques in brains of patients with Alzheimer\u27s disease. Using in vitro and in vivo models, we have studied the role of glial cells and extracellular matrix molecules m mediating the effects of AB. Glial cells respond to AB substrate by accumulating and depositing chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs) which are inhibitory to neurite outgrowth. CSPGs are present around the senile plaque core, an area with both dystrophic neurites and a general decrease in normal neurites. We suggest that CSPG may contribute to the pathology by leading to regenerative failure of neurites surrounding senile plaques
Direct Evidence for the Source of Reported Magnetic Behavior in "CoTe"
In order to unambiguously identify the source of magnetism reported in recent
studies of the Co-Te system, two sets of high-quality, epitaxial CoTe films
(thickness 300 nm) were prepared by pulse laser deposition (PLD).
X-ray diffraction (XRD) shows that all of the films are epitaxial along the
[001] direction and have the hexagonal NiAs structure. There is no indication
of any second phase metallic Co peaks (either or ) in the XRD
patterns. The two sets of CoTe films were grown on various substrates with
PLD targets having Co:Te in the atomic ratio of 50:50 and 35:65. From the
measured lattice parameters for the former and
for the latter, the compositions CoTe (63.1% Te) and CoTe
(63.8% Te), respectively, are assigned to the principal phase. Although XRD
shows no trace of metallic Co second phase, the magnetic measurements do show a
ferromagnetic contribution for both sets of films with the saturation
magnetization values for the CoTe films being approximately four times
the values for the CoTe films. Co spin-echo nuclear magnetic
resonance (NMR) clearly shows the existence of metallic Co inclusions in the
films. The source of weak ferromagnetism reported in several recent studies is
due to the presence of metallic Co, since the stoichiometric composition "CoTe"

Science-based restoration monitoring of coastal habitats, Volume Two: Tools for monitoring coastal habitats
Healthy coastal habitats are not only important ecologically; they also support healthy coastal communities and improve the quality of people’s lives. Despite their many benefits and values, coastal habitats have been systematically modified, degraded, and destroyed throughout the United States and its protectorates beginning with European colonization in the 1600’s (Dahl 1990). As a result, many coastal habitats around the United States are in desperate need of restoration. The monitoring of restoration projects, the focus of this document, is necessary to ensure that restoration efforts are successful, to further the science, and to increase the efficiency of future restoration efforts
Probing the Relation Between X-ray-Derived and Weak-Lensing-Derived Masses for Shear-Selected Galaxy Clusters: I. A781
We compare X-ray and weak-lensing masses for four galaxy clusters that
comprise the top-ranked shear-selected cluster system in the Deep Lens Survey.
The weak-lensing observations of this system, which is associated with A781,
are from the Kitt Peak Mayall 4-m telescope, and the X-ray observations are
from both Chandra and XMM-Newton. For a faithful comparison of masses, we adopt
the same matter density profile for each method, which we choose to be an NFW
profile. Since neither the X-ray nor weak-lensing data are deep enough to well
constrain both the NFW scale radius and central density, we estimate the scale
radius using a fitting function for the concentration derived from cosmological
hydrodynamic simulations and an X-ray estimate of the mass assuming
isothermality. We keep this scale radius in common for both X-ray and
weak-lensing profiles, and fit for the central density, which scales linearly
with mass. We find that for three of these clusters, there is agreement between
X-ray and weak-lensing NFW central densities, and thus masses. For the other
cluster, the X-ray central density is higher than that from weak-lensing by 2
sigma. X-ray images suggest that this cluster may be undergoing a merger with a
smaller cluster. This work serves as an additional step towards understanding
the possible biases in X-ray and weak-lensing cluster mass estimation methods.
Such understanding is vital to efforts to constrain cosmology using X-ray or
