The research is performed with ten 18-26-year-old sportive experienced volunteer athletes, running on a treadmill regulated into eight velocities. The spine's curve is represented by circular reflexive markers adhered to the skin along the line defined by the vertebral spinous processes between the vertical and sacral regions. Six pairs of these markers are still fixed on the back, with the purpose of both accessing the back's oscillations and identifying the pelvis, vertebrae and acromions representative anatomical regions. These 3D markers localization is obtained by videogrametric techniques. Polynomial functions are used to quantify the spine's curve on the sagittal and frontal planes, as well as to calculate the corresponding bidimensional geometric curvature. The spine's neutral component is constructed from two spine's representative curves, obtained in two bilaterally symmetrical moments, during the gait cycle. The oscillatory component results from the subtraction of the neutral curve of each spine's representative curve obtained during the gait cycle. Ouring running, the maximal amplitudes of the bilateral segments oscillations that occur in the frontal plane show less magnitudes than those found in the transverse plane. The effects of the velocity increase seem more accentuated in the transverse plane oscillations. The neutral components obtained for each runner describe the individual characteristics, they do not depend on the velocity, and they are distinct from the spine's curve obtained in the static position. In the frontal plane, the superposition of the spine's oscillatory component curves forms two regions of larger amplitude in the curvature adaptation along the stride: the lumbar and the thoracic ones. In these regions, the peaks of curvature are accented with the velocity increase and occur in certain phases of the gait cycle. The positive and negative lumbar curvature peaks are associated to the stance phase, and the thoracic ones are related to the double float phaseDoutoradoBiodinamica do Movimento HumanoDoutor em Educação Físic

The vertical jump involves different levels of skill complexity and offers the individual a wide range of motor experiences. This study aimed to determine which movements in the developmental sequence performed by schoolchildren are associated with age and vertical jump performance. The sample consisted of 137 elementary school children of both sexes, aged 7-10y, with height of 1.19-1.63 m, and weight of 20-60 kg. All children were selected from first- to fourth-grade classrooms of a public school of the city of Maringá, state of Pa- raná, Brazil. A Gallahue & Ozmun matrix and a jumping platform were used as research instruments. During the experiment, each child performed three jumps. Simultaneous and coordinated upward arm lift was observed in 7-year-old children. In 9-year-old children, inconsistent preparatory crouch and lack of coordination between limb movements and trunk were observed. A prevalence of upper limb motor acts was observed when considering the significant associations found between elements of the developmental sequence and vertical jump performance. In children aged 7-10y, age group and jumping performance are associated with elements of the developmental sequence of the human body as a whole, especially with regard to the upper limbs.O salto vertical além de possuir complexidade coordenativa, agrega ao indivíduo diferentes experiências motoras.

Peptidergic control in a fruit crop pest: The spotted-wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii

Neuropeptides play an important role in the regulation of feeding in insects and offer potential targets for the development of new chemicals to control insect pests. A pest that has attracted much recent attention is the highly invasive Drosophila suzukii, a polyphagous pest that can cause serious economic damage to soft fruits. Previously we showed by mass spectrometry the presence of the neuropeptide myosuppressin (TDVDHVFLRFamide) in the nerve bundle suggesting that this peptide is involved in regulating the function of the crop, which in adult dipteran insects has important roles in the processing of food, the storage of carbohydrates and the movement of food into the midgut for digestion. In the present study antibodies that recognise the C-terminal RFamide epitope of myosuppressin stain axons in the crop nerve bundle and reveal peptidergic fibres covering the surface of the crop. We also show using an in vitro bioassay that the neuropeptide is a potent inhibitor (EC50 of 2.3 nM) of crop contractions and that this inhibition is mimicked by the non-peptide myosuppressin agonist, benzethonium chloride (Bztc). Myosuppressin also inhibited the peristaltic contractions of the adult midgut, but was a much weaker agonist (EC50 = 5.7 μM). The oral administration of Bztc (5 mM) in a sucrose diet to adult female D. suzukii over 4 hours resulted in less feeding and longer exposure to dietary Bztc led to early mortality. We therefore suggest that myosuppressin and its cognate receptors are potential targets for disrupting feeding behaviour of adult D. suzukii

Full text availableDue to the requirement to establish online learning during the quarantine period in this COVID-19 pandemic, the use of digital devices has increased significantly. Currently, as Covid 19 cases gradually decrease, online education shifts into the new norm known as blended learning, which combines face-to-face classroom experiences with online learning. As a result, students are still using gadgets to attend their online classes, work on their assignments, take quizzes using an online platform called Canvas, and even study for extended periods of time using their gadgets as their e-books or reviewers. This research aimed to determine the digital eye strain and academic performance among level 3 student nurses at a selected University in Iloilo City. With a total of 172 respondents, aged around 21 - 25 years old enrolled in the Nursing Department of Central Philippine University for the academic School Year 2022-2023. Using a descriptive and correlational quantitative design, an online survey was used to examine the profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, and eye modifiers, digital eye strain, and academic performance. The completed questionnaire was collected, and the data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) through frequency distribution, Gamma, Cramer’s V, descriptive statistics, and Spearman’s Rho. The findings highlighted the relationship between digital eye strain and academic performance. Based on the data analysis and findings, the researchers concluded that there was no significant relationship between age and digital eye strain among student nurses in a selected private university. However, significant relationships were identified between sex and digital eye strain, as well as between eye modifiers and digital eye strain, among these student nurses. Conversely, age, sex, and eye modifiers did not exhibit a significant relationship with academic performance. Importantly, digital eye strain was found to have a significant relationship with the academic performance of level 3 student nurses at a selected private university in Iloilo City. The prominent symptoms that the respondents experienced are headaches 'always', tearing 'often', eye pain 'occasionally', and double vision 'never'. In terms of intensity, the prominent symptoms that the respondents experienced are increased sensitivity to light 'intense', headache 'moderate', and feeling of a foreign body 'low'. As shown in the results, respondents with digital eye strain are mostly likely to be affected in their academic performance.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Nursin
