Communicating with the European Resistance:an assessment of the Special Operations Executive’s wireless facilities in the UK during the Second World War
Summary: This article presents for the first time an examination of the Special Operations Executive’s (SOE) UK-based communication facilities. Established in 1940, SOE was responsible for coordinating all acts of sabotage against the enemy overseas. This was only possible with the aid of a reliable communications link with the Resistance. By examining SOE’s Home Stations, this article will demonstrate the value the organization placed in reliable wireless communications
Factors Impacting the Special Education Classification of Students Comparing Urban to Rural School Districts
With the understanding that special education classification rates vary depending on whether or not a district is located in an urban versus a suburban or rural district, the following action research study focused on the factors that_are considered when special education committees make decisions to classify students. The goal of this study was to determine ifthere were other factors besides student ability that play into the classification of students for special education services. The focus of many research studies has determined race, socio - economic status, family makeup, and access to early educational opportunities to be factors affecting the classification of students in urban districts. This study looked to see if similar trends existed in rural school districts as well, in order to determine ifthere were other biases that play into the classification of student into special education programs. To implement my research, I formulated the following questions: • Does a correlation exist between where a school district is and the reasons for special education classifications? • Does a correlation exist between a student\u27s race and their likelihood of being classified as having a special need or disability? • Does a correlation exist between a student\u27s socioeconomic status and their likelihood to be classified as having a special need or disability? • Does a correlation exist between the available resources to school districts and the rate of special education classification
PENGEMBANGAN PROTOTYPE GAME “THE PROCLAMATOR”
The purpose of this research is to create a prototype game about Indonesia independence history as a basic story, so that player can play and also learn about it. The game genre is Real Time Strategy (RTS), that will be encouraged player to think and plan a strategi in the game. The research method is waterfall model, start with user requirement (in form of survey) and analysis the survey result, design application based on analysis, coding, implementation, and evaluation. The result of this research is a prototype game RTS about Indonesia independence history, especially during 14 to 17 August, 1945with two language choices (in Bahasa and English). In addition, this game is apply infra red technology with WiiMote that allow player to play touchscreen. The conclusion is this game can help player to learn about Indonesia independence history easier and interested. In other hand, apply two language can allow foreigner to play this game so that can introduce Indonesia history to the
Using K-Nearest Neighbor in Optical Character Recognition
The growth in computer vision technology has aided society with various kinds of tasks. One of these tasks is the ability of recognizing text contained in an image, or usually referred to as Optical Character Recognition (OCR). There are many kinds of algorithms that can be implemented into an OCR. The K-Nearest Neighbor is one such algorithm. This research aims to find out the process behind the OCR mechanism by using K-Nearest Neighbor algorithm; one of the most influential machine learning algorithms. It also aims to find out how precise the algorithm is in an OCR program. To do that, a simple OCR program to classify alphabets of capital letters is made to produce and compare real results. The result of this research yielded a maximum of 76.9% accuracy with 200 training samples per alphabet. A set of reasons are also given as to why the program is able to reach said level of accuracy
Diagnosa Hama Dan Penyakit Pada Tanaman Cabai Menggunakan Metode Variable Centered Intelligent Rule System (Vcirs)
This research led to an expert system application that was built by applying the method variable centered intelligent rule system and the certainty factor. Variable Centered Intelligent Rule System (VCIRS) is an intelligent rule-based system that focuses on the variables. VCIRS procedures are able to take over the construction of knowledge, update knowledge as well as advice or inference process. Procedure own certainty factor on the symptoms of pests or diseases taking into account the weighting process used to provide from the weighting process result in the form of pests or diseases to the value of the trust of the system. The location of this research is located in Rote Ndao Regency. Data used in this application testing of 28 case data sourced from an expert or agricultural expert. Accuracy in this study was 100 %. The results showed that the method variable centered intelligent rule system and certainty factor can be applied in the application of expert system for the diagnosis of plant pests and diseases chili
Use of a public film event to promote understanding and help seeking for social withdrawal
IntroductionThis study aimed to implement a public film event about mental health aspects of social withdrawal. Secondary aims were to assess participants' knowledge, attitudes, and intended behaviors related to social withdrawal.MethodThe event, held at three U.S. sites, consisted of a film screening, question‐and‐answer session, and lecture. Participants completed a post‐event survey.ResultsOf the 163 participants, 115 (70.6%) completed surveys. Most of the sample deemed social withdrawal a significant mental health issue. Regarding post‐event intended behaviors, 90.2% reported intent to get more information, 48.0% to being vigilant for social withdrawal in others, and 19.6% to talking with a health care professional about concerns for social withdrawal in themselves or someone they knew. Asian participants were significantly more likely than non‐Asians to intend to encourage help‐seeking for social withdrawal (p = .001).DiscussionA public film event may be a creative way to improve mental health awareness and treatment‐seeking.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/111240/1/appy12166.pd
Single Document Automatic Text Summarization Using Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF)
The increasing availability of online information has triggered an intensive research in the area of automatic text summarization within the Natural Language Processing (NLP). Text summarization reduces the text by removing the less useful information which helps the reader to find the required information quickly. There are many kinds of algorithms that can be used to summarize the text. One of them is TF-IDF (TermFrequency-Inverse Document Frequency). This research aimed to produce an automatic text summarizer implemented with TF-IDF algorithm and to compare it with other various online source of automatic text summarizer. To evaluate the summary produced from each summarizer, The F-Measure as the standard comparison value had been used. The result of this research produces 67% of accuracy with three data samples which are higher compared to the other online summarizers
