Efficiency and timing performance of the MuPix7 high-voltage monolithic active pixel sensor
The MuPix7 is a prototype high voltage monolithic active pixel sensor with
103 times 80 um2 pixels thinned to 64 um and incorporating the complete
read-out circuitry including a 1.25 Gbit/s differential data link. Using data
taken at the DESY electron test beam, we demonstrate an efficiency of 99.3% and
a time resolution of 14 ns. The efficiency and time resolution are studied with
sub-pixel resolution and reproduced in simulations.Comment: 7 pages, 13 figures, submitted to Nucl.Instr.Meth.

The MuPix7 chip is a monolithic HV-CMOS pixel chip, thinned down to 50 \mu m.
It provides continuous self-triggered, non-shuttered readout at rates up to 30
Mhits/chip of 3x3 mm^2 active area and a pixel size of 103x80 \mu m^2. The hit
efficiency depends on the chosen working point. Settings with a power
consumption of 300 mW/cm^2 allow for a hit efficiency >99.5%. A time resolution
of 14.2 ns (Gaussian sigma) is achieved. Latest results from 2016 test beam

The Sword and the Serpent
This project provides insight into the monstrous bridegroom trope in fairytale and its influence in modern fantasy literature. The monstrous bridegroom trope has several different variations, but all of these variations result in a young and innocent woman marrying a monster. Through my critical essay, I look at this trope through a modern feminist lens, exploring the different variations of the trope in fairy tales, modern fairy tale adaptations, and fantasy literature. The essay brings in modern ideas of toxic masculinity and toxic femininity and applies them to the fairy tale inspiration of fantasy literature. The monstrous bridegroom trope and the subversion of the idea of a young, innocent woman marrying a monster against her will was the inspiration for my novel The Sword and the Serpent. This subversion occurs by giving the women in the story more agency than women traditionally had in the original versions of fairy tales, as well as celebrating femininity and female camaraderie, and villainizing toxic masculinity

In-situ characterization of the Hamamatsu R5912-HQE photomultiplier tubes used in the DEAP-3600 experiment
The Hamamatsu R5912-HQE photomultiplier-tube (PMT) is a novel high-quantum
efficiency PMT. It is currently used in the DEAP-3600 dark matter detector and
is of significant interest for future dark matter and neutrino experiments
where high signal yields are needed.
We report on the methods developed for in-situ characterization and
monitoring of DEAP's 255 R5912-HQE PMTs. This includes a detailed discussion of
typical measured single-photoelectron charge distributions, correlated noise
(afterpulsing), dark noise, double, and late pulsing characteristics. The
characterization is performed during the detector commissioning phase using
laser light injected through a light diffusing sphere and during normal
detector operation using LED light injected through optical fibres
Fast data acquisition for silicon tracking detectors at high rates
Silicon tracking detectors play a key role in many current high energy physics experiments. To enhance experimental sensitivities for searches for new physics, beam energies and event rates are constantly being increased, which leads to growing volumes of detector data that have to be processed.
This thesis covers high-speed data acquisition for silicon tracking detectors in the context of the Mu3e experiment and future hadron collider experiments. For the Mu3e experiment, a vertical slice of the trigger-less readout system is realized as a beam telescope consisting of 8 layers of pixel sensors that are read out using a prototype of the Mu3e front-end board. The performance of the full readout system is studied during beam tests. Sensor hit rates of up to 5 MHz can be handled without significant losses. Hence, the system fulfils the requirements for the first phase of the
experiment.
To fully exploit the potential of silicon tracking detectors at future hadron collider experiments, the implementation of high-speed data links is mandatory. Wireless links operating at frequencies of 60 GHz and above present an attractive alternative to electrical and optical links, as they offer high bandwidth, small form factor and low power consumption. This thesis describes readout concepts for tracking detectors applying wireless data transfer and presents studies of wireless data transmission
