'Dhowr'- A Revisit to the design and operation of indigenous machinery in fishery technology
Traditionally, the fishing crafts are hauled on to the beach with manpower after the fishing cruise. Many of the beach-landing centers use manpower for hauling the boats. But the change in beach profile due to changing weather condition makes it extremely cumbersome for hauling the boat using manpower alone. Moreover, the labour force has also been getting scarce in many fishing villages. A wooden winch was developed by the fishermen of Dakshina Kannada, several decades back. The fishermen in Keni Village of Uttar Kannada District worked on this insight and came out with a modified manually working wooden winch/ capstan and named “Dhowr”. This device was widely accepted and number of units came up in most of the beach landing fishing villages of Uttar Kannada. With this background, it was felt necessary that a detailed study be conducted to document and report the construction and operation of unique and eco-friendly wooden capstan, “Dhowr” along with the benefits to the fishermen

Majority of the non-mechanized craft in Karnataka are wooden and they are operated mainly in beach landing centers which
hardly have any berthing facility. These boats are operating on daily basis and are hauled on to the beach after the operatio

“Dhowr” for hauling the boat on shore. The following paper documents and report for the first time, the use of such unique,

Istodobno spektrofotometrijsko određivanje losartan kalija, amlodipin besilata i hidroklorotiazida u farmaceutskim pripravcima kemometrijskom metodom
In the present work, four different spectrophotometric methods for simultaneous estimation of losartan potassium, amlodipine besilate and hydrochlorothiazide in raw materials and in formulations are described. Overlapped data was quantitatively resolved by using chemometric methods, classical least squares (CLS), multiple linear regression (MLR), principal component regression (PCR) and partial least squares (PLS). Calibrations were constructed using the absorption data matrix corresponding to the concentration data matrix, with measurements in the range of 230.5350.4 nm (∆λ = 0.1 nm) in their zero order spectra. The linearity range was found to be 840, 15 and 315 μg ml1 for losartan potassium, amlodipine besilate and hydrochlorothiazide, respectively. The validity of the proposed methods was successfully assessed for analyses of drugs in the various prepared physical mixtures and in tablet formulations.U radu su opisane četiri spektrofotometrijske metode za istodobno određivanje losartan kalija, amlodipin besilata i hidroklorotiazida u sirovinama i farmaceutskim pripravcima. Podaci koji su se preklapali kvantitativno su razlučeni kemometrijskim metodama, klasičnom metodom najmanjih kvadrata (CLS), multiplom linearnom regresijom (MLR), regresijom glavnih komponenata (PCR) te metodom parcijalnih najmanjih kvadrata (PLS). Kalibracije su provedene koristeći podatke o ovisnosti apsorpcije o koncentracijama, mjereći spektre nultog reda u rasponu 230,5350,4 nm (∆λ = 0,1 nm). Linearnost za losartan kalij bila je 840, za amlodipin besilat 15, a za hidroklorotiazid 315 μg ml1. Valjanost predloženih metoda uspješno je potvrđena analizom navedenih lijekova u različitim pripremljenim smjesama i tabletama
Investigation on wear and corrosion behavior of equal channel angular pressed aluminium 2014 alloy
Aluminium 2014 alloy solutionized at 495°C, aged at 195°C was subjected to Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP). Dry sliding wear tests were conducted using pin on disc tribometer system under nominal loads of 10N and 30N with constant speed 2m/s for 2000m in order to investigate their wear behavior after ECAP. The Co-efficient of friction and loss in volume were decreased after ECAP. The dominant wear mechanism observed was adhesion, delamination in addition to these wear mechanisms, oxidation and transfer of Fe from the counter surface to the Al 2014 pin were observed at higher loading condition. The corrosion behavior was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in 3.5% NaCl solution. The results obtained from PDP showed higher corrosion potential and lower corrosion density after ECAP than base. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) showed higher charge transfer resistance after ECAP. Surface morphology showed decreased pit size and increased oxygen content in ECAP sample than base after PDP
Longitudinal Host Transcriptional Responses to SARS-CoV-2 Infection in Adults With Extremely High Viral Load
Current understanding of viral dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 and host responses driving the pathogenic mechanisms in COVID-19 is rapidly evolving. Here, we conducted a longitudinal study to investigate gene expression patterns during acute SARS-CoV-2 illness. Cases included SARS-CoV-2 infected individuals with extremely high viral loads early in their illness, individuals having low SARS-CoV-2 viral loads early in their infection, and individuals testing negative for SARS-CoV-2. We could identify widespread transcriptional host responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection that were initially most strongly manifested in patients with extremely high initial viral loads, then attenuating within the patient over time as viral loads decreased. Genes correlated with SARS-CoV-2 viral load over time were similarly differentially expressed across independent datasets of SARS-CoV-2 infected lung and upper airway cells, from both in vitro systems and patient samples. We also generated expression data on the human nose organoid model during SARS-CoV-2 infection. The human nose organoid-generated host transcriptional response captured many aspects of responses observed in the above patient samples, while suggesting the existence of distinct host responses to SARS-CoV-2 depending on the cellular context, involving both epithelial and cellular immune responses. Our findings provide a catalog of SARS-CoV-2 host response genes changing over time and magnitude of these host responses were significantly correlated to viral load
