    Optimizing Cash Flow Management and Inventory Control in Engine Power Plant Sales Proposals : A Case Study at Wärtsilä Finland Oy

    This case study investigates how cash flow management and inventory control affect financial risk assessment during sales phase of the Engine Power Plant projects in Wärtsilä Finland Oy. This qualitative research applies inductive approach by conducting semi-structured interviews. Also, a recent sales project showed the real case of the phenomena. The study found that existing cash flow tool in internal software system does not present required picture of the risks related to the projects without payment guarantees. The financial success of these projects depends on how well cash inflow is compared to inventory commitments. This thesis suggested to integrate the handmade tool into the company’s internal system. This would allow proposal departments to improve the accuracy and speed of financial assessments under time pressure. Thus, upgrading existing tool was found to be the essential step in optimizing sales proposals.Tämä tapaustutkimus tutkii miten kassavirran hallinta ja varastonhallinta vaikuttavat Wärtsilä Finland Oy:n moottorivoimalaitos -projektien myyntivaiheen rahoitusriskien arviointiin. Tämä kvalitatiivinen tutkimus soveltaa induktiivista lähestymistapaa tekemällä puolistrukturoituja haastatteluja. Myös eräs tuore myyntiprojekti toimi käytännön esimerkkinä aiheesta. Tutkimuksessa todettiin, että olemassa oleva kassavirtatyökalu sisäisessä ohjelmistojärjestelmässä ei anna vaadittua kuvaa projekteihin ilman maksutakuita liittyvistä riskeistä. Näiden hankkeiden taloudellinen menestys riippuu siitä, kuinka hyvin kassavirtaa verrataan inventaariositoumuksiin. Tässä opinnäytetyössä ehdotettiin käsin tehdyn työkalun integroimista yrityksen sisäiseen järjestelmään. Näin tarjousosastot voisivat parantaa taloudellisten arviointien tarkkuutta ja nopeutta aikapaineen alla. Näin ollen olemassa olevan työkalun päivittäminen todettiin olennaiseksi askeleeksi myyntitarjousten optimoinnissa

    The article interprets the plot and main themes of Vladimir Nabokov’s Podvig (Glory, in an imprecise English translation) as an expression of his belief in the heroic potentialities of the modern age. Nabokov plays upon different meanings and connotations of the Russian title word that can mean “high deed” (alluding to the protagonist’s suicidal expedition to communist Russia) but also “path,” “way,” “journey,” and, ultimately, “life” (alluding to his life as a kind of quest).     V. Dolinin and D. Severiukhin are authors associated with the authoritative encyclopaedia Samizdat Leningrada (2003). Both were deeply involved in Samizdat publishing in Leningrad. Dolinin was arrested in 1982 and spent four years in prison. This article is a broad survey of the origins, development and values of Leningrad unofficial culture during the ‘classical’ period (1950s-1980s) of Soviet Samizdat.

В качестве модели слоя ТБО для исследования тепловых и гидродинамических процессов использовалась фрактальная структура – губка Менгера.     In this paper, mathematical simulation of the hollow nozzle scrubber in ANSYS Fluent is considered. A model of the involute injector, which corresponds to the real with an error of less than 2% was created. The proposed method of calculation allows obtaining data about the operation of the nozzle scrubber.В работе рассматривается математическое моделирование полого форсуночного скруббера в ANSYS Fluent Создана модель эвольвентой форсунки, которая соответствует реальной с погрешностью менее 2 %.     Investigation of Heat and Mass Transfer in the Process of Fuel Preparation from Biomass Particles with High Moisture

    Currently, in a number of countries an urgent task for development of fuel and energy complexes is to increase the share of generation by involving solid fuels in circulation. Among such projects, those that allow the disposal of waste from various industries are particularly significant. Expired food products in this context are represented as a renewable local energy resource. However, such products require serious activities to prepare them for incineration or other type of high-temperature processing in order to obtain energy. The purpose of the present work is to improve methods of preparing fuel from recycled carrot fruits (unsuitable for use in the food sector). During the fuel preparation of carrots, the drying stage is limiting for the rational organization of its processing in boilers. In addition, the drying stage is extremely energy-consuming, so reliable prediction of its kinetics largely determines the efficiency of the entire technological process. In the course of the study, the following tasks were solved: a numerical method was developed for describing the processes of internal and external heat and mass transfer problems using an explicit difference approximation of differential equations of heat and mass transfer; parametric identification of the proposed one-dimensional mathematical model was performed using empirical dependencies known from literature sources; empirical verification of the proposed mathematical model was carried out by comparing the calculated forecasts obtained with the results of their own field experiments. The fact that the proposed mathematical model and the results of the full-scale experiment are independent, while the calculated forecasts and experimental data are in good agreement, makes us possible to consider the proposed calculation method as a reliable scientific basis for a computer method for calculating of heat and mass transfer processes when organizing the preparation of fuel from carrot fruits

    The paper presents a study of the dependence of the physical and mechanical properties of a ceramic material obtained with the addition of the carbonaceous residue of MSW pyrolysis on the firing temperature of the products. The research results make it possible to obtain ceramic products with the required properties while reducing energy consumption.В работе представлено исследование зависимости физико-механических свойств керамического материала, полученного с добавлением углеродистого остатка пиролиза твердых коммунальных отходов (ТКО), от температуры обжига изделий.
