New accurate measurement of 36ArH+ and 38ArH+ ro-vibrational transitions by high resolution IR absorption spectroscopy

The protonated Argon ion, $^{36}$ArH$^{+}$, has been identified recently in the Crab Nebula (Barlow et al. 2013) from Herschel spectra. Given the atmospheric opacity at the frequency of its $J$=1-0 and $J$=2-1 rotational transitions (617.5 and 1234.6 GHz, respectively), and the current lack of appropriate space observatories after the recent end of the Herschel mission, future studies on this molecule will rely on mid-infrared observations. We report on accurate wavenumber measurements of $^{36}$ArH$^{+}$ and $^{38}$ArH$^{+}$ rotation-vibration transitions in the $v$=1-0 band in the range 4.1-3.7 $\mu$m (2450-2715 cm$^{-1}$). The wavenumbers of the $R$(0) transitions of the $v$=1-0 band are 2612.50135$\pm$0.00033 and 2610.70177$\pm$0.00042 cm$^{-1}$ ($\pm3\sigma$) for $^{36}$ArH$^{+}$ and $^{38}$ArH$^{+}$, respectively. The calculated opacity for a gas thermalized at a temperature of 100 K and a linewidth of 1 km.s$^{-1}$ of the $R$(0) line is $1.6\times10^{-15}\times N$($^{36}$ArH$^+$). For column densities of $^{36}$ArH$^+$ larger than $1\times 10^{13}$ cm$^{-2}$, significant absorption by the $R$(0) line can be expected against bright mid-IR sources

La brucellose bovine en Afrique Centrale. V. Description d'une méthode d'enquête simplifiée

Les auteurs mettent en évidence la corrélation étroite qui existe entre le taux d'avortements brucelliques annuel moyen (AV MOY) et le pourcentage des vaches présentant ou ayant présenté un hygroma du genou durant les cinq dernières années. Cet hygroma, signe objectif, facile à diagnostiquer, et caractéristique de la brucellose en Afrique centrale est lié à l'avortement, élément de base dans le calcul des pertes économiques, par la relation y (AV MOY) = 0,15 + 0,66 x (H-GE). Experts by experience and by profession: views of professional practice in Primary Care Social Services

Este artículo se ha desarrollado en el marco de un trabajo de investigación más amplio sobre indicadores de calidad en los Servicios Sociales, cuya finalidad es integrar la perspectiva de profesionales y usuarios sobre la calidad en los Servicios Sociales de Atención Primaria (SSAP). Siguiendo un enfoque cualitativo con finalidad exploratoria, mediante entrevistas en profundidad a usuarios y grupos de discusión con profesionales, los resultados recogen su visión sobre la práctica profesional en estos Servicios y, específicamente, sobre las habilidades, actitudes y cualidades necesarias. El trabajo muestra que, aun con experiencias, posiciones y roles diferentes, ambos comparten una perspectiva sobre la práctica profesional necesaria en estos Servicios, en los que las habilidades de comunicación interpersonal y la predisposición o actitud en la relación son elementos clave. Sobre las cualidades personales hay acuerdo en considerarlas un facilitador de la interacción, pero los profesionales destacan que si no van acompañadas de formación no garantizan un trabajo de calidad. Los hallazgos de este trabajo pueden ser útiles para el diseño y revisión de los procesos de formación y selección de los profesionales.This article has been developed as part of a larger research work on indicators of quality in Social Services, aimed at integrating the perspective of users and professionals on the quality of Primary Care Social Services (PCSS). Following a qualitative approach with exploratory purposes, based on in-depth interviews with users and focus groups with users and focus groups made up of professionals, the results reflect their vision of professional practice in the PCSS and specifically on the skills, attitudes and qualities needed. The work shows that, even with different experience, positions and roles, each have a shared perspective on the professional practice required in the PCSS, in which interpersonal communication skills and the willingness or attitude in the relationship are key elements. Agreement exists that the personal qualities considered are a facilitator for interaction, but the professionals emphasize that if they are not accompanied by training, they do not guarantee quality of professional practice. Le syndrome nerveux des ovins en Côte-d'Ivoire. I. Etude épidémiologique et clinique, méthodes de diagnostic et traitement

Le "syndrome nerveux des ovins" en Côte-d'Ivoire est assimilable à la "nécrose du cortex cérébral" (NCC) due à une carence en vitamine Bl. Tous les symptômes classiques de la NCC ont été observés (ataxie locomotrice suivie de paralysies) et les lésions histologiques de polioencéphalomalacie ont été mises en évidence. En revanche, les circonstances d'apparition de la maladie sont très différentes dans les deux cas : si la NCC est une maladie des jeunes ruminants à l'engrais dans les pays développés, le syndrome nerveux des ovins se manifeste essentiellement, en Côte-d'Ivoire, durant la saison sèche, lorsque le pâturage devient sec et rare et que la complémentation alimentaire est insuffisante. La cause principale, relativement univoque, est donc représentée par une dégradation brutale de la valeur nutritionnelle de la ration alimentaire, mais l'étiopathogénie précise de la maladie reste inconnue. Dans un troupeau atteint, 10 à 30 p. 100 des animaux peuvent être malades et 80 à 90 p. 100 d'entre eux vont mourir. Sur le plan du diagnostic, aucune épreuve biochimique classique n'est suffisamment spécifique pour être retenue pour une confirmation formelle du syndrome nerveux. Il faut cependant signaler que les CK (créatinine kinase) sont très régulièrement augmentées et que les ASAT (aspartate aminotransférase) sont élevées dans 75 p. 100 des cas. Le diagnostic formel reste donc basé, dans les conditions actuelles pratiques de terrain en Afrique, sur l'efficacité du traitement avec la vitamine Blet, pour l'animal mort, sur l'analyse histologique du cerveau. Detection of the Ammonium Ion in Space

We report on the detection of a narrow feature at 262816.73 MHz towards Orion and the cold prestellar core B1-bS, that we attribute to the 1(0)-0(0) line of the deuterated Ammonium ion, NH3D+. The observations were performed with the IRAM 30m radio telescope. The carrier has to be a light molecular species as it is the only feature detected over 3.6 GHz of bandwidth. The hyperfine structure is not resolved indicating a very low value for the electric quadrupolar coupling constant of Nitrogen which is expected for NH3D+ as the electric field over the N nucleus is practically zero. Moreover, the feature is right at the predicted frequency for the 1(0)-0(0) transition of the Ammonium ion, 262817(6) MHz (3sigma), using rotational constants derived from new infrared data obtained in our laboratory in Madrid. The estimated column density is 1.1(0.2)e12 cm-2. Assuming a deuterium enhancement similar to that of NH2D, we derive N(NH4+) sim 2.6e13 cm-2, i.e., an abundance for Ammonium of a few 1e(-11).Comment: Accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal Letters 04 June 201

Prospects for probing the gluon density in protons using heavy quarkonium hadroproduction

We examine carefully bottomonia hadroproduction in proton colliders, especially focusing on the LHC, as a way of probing the gluon density in protons. To this end we develop some previous work, getting quantitative predictions and concluding that our proposal can be useful to perform consistency checks of the parameterization sets of different parton distribution functions.Comment: LaTeX, 14 pages, 6 EPS figure

Contextual logic for quantum systems

In this work we build a quantum logic that allows us to refer to physical magnitudes pertaining to different contexts from a fixed one without the contradictions with quantum mechanics expressed in no-go theorems. This logic arises from considering a sheaf over a topological space associated to the Boolean sublattices of the ortholattice of closed subspaces of the Hilbert space of the physical system. Differently to standard quantum logics, the contextual logic maintains a distributive lattice structure and a good definition of implication as a residue of the conjunction.Comment: 16 pages, no figure
