Observations of tetrel bonding between sp3-carbon and THF

    Get PDF
We report the direct observation of tetrel bonding interactions between sp3-carbons of the supramolecular synthon 3,3-dimethyl-tetracyanocyclopropane (1) and tetrahydrofuran in the gas and crystalline phase. The intermolecular contact is established via σ-holes and is driven mainly by electrostatic forces. The complex manifests distinct binding geometries when captured in the crystalline phase and in the gas phase. We elucidate these binding trends using complementary gas phase quantum chemical calculations and find a total binding energy of −11.2 kcal mol−1 for the adduct. Our observations pave the way for novel strategies to engineer sp3-C centred non-covalent bonding schemes for supramolecular chemistry

Evaluation of functional capacity by spiroergometry before and after pulmonary thromboendarterectomy

In the present dissertation, functional capacity was evaluated in 61 patients with CTEPH using spiroergometry over time before and after pulmonary thromboendarterectomy. Here, a significant improvement in respiratory efficiency and gas exchange disturbance was demonstrated early postoperatively. Later postoperatively, further improvement in oxygen uptake and respiratory efficiency on exercise was demonstrated due to a training effect. Compared with previously published studies, the work presented here has investigated considerably more spiroergometric parameters and thus made a further contribution to the understanding of cardiopulmonary effects of pulmonary thromboendarterectomy. Ultimately, adding the current data, we believe that spiroergometry is a sensitive, noninvasive tool for both early and later assessment of therapeutic success after pulmonary thromboendarterectomy for CTEPH and thus should find wider application in clinical practice. In addition, parameters of hemodynamics (by right heart catheterization), echocardiography, the 6-minute-walk-test, as well as the Borg dyspnea score, the Borg fatigue score, and the WHO functional class were studied in the same setting

    The transformation of the Spoorzone

This thesis is focussed on the Spoorzone, an area in the city centre of Tilburg. This area was reallocated after it was purchased from the NS, creating a large opportunity for redevelopment in the city centre of Tilburg. Ten years after the purchase the Spoorzone can be seen as a largely developed area in which several modern themes like attractiveness and design. The effects which these themes have on the city centre are analysed and listed in the research, showing which effects have the biggest impact on the feeling of attractiveness by the redevelopment. In the research different effects are listed and grounded in theory written by names like Gehl and Jacobs. The ideology by these thinkers is integrated into the project by using the basics of the theories in the interview guides used to analyse the effects of the redevelopment. This casestudy on Tilburg involves interviews with several experts on the topics in the region and stakeholders present in the Spoorzone as well as inhabitants of Tilburg. The research is aimed to see whether the effects of the redevelopment have positively impacted the feeling of attractiveness in the city centre of Tilburg
