Ludo: A Case Study for Graph Transformation Tools

In this paper we describe the Ludo case, one of the case studies of the AGTIVE 2007 Tool Contest (see [22]). After summarising the case description, we give an overview of the submitted solutions. In particular, we propose a number of dimensions along which choices had to be made when solving the case, essentially setting up a solution space; we then plot the spectrum of solutions actually encountered into this solution space. In addition, there is a brief description of the special features of each of the submissions, to do justice to those aspects that are not distinguished in the general solution space

La Casa Batlló, Patrimonio de la Humanidad, es uno de los edificios más emblemáticos de Barcelona, no solo por su ubicación excepcional en uno de los ejes más turísticos y comerciales de la ciudad, sino también porque debe su autoría al arquitecto Antoni Gaudí.El edificio ya existía, pero en 1904 la familia Batlló, los nuevos propietarios, contrataron a Gaudí para rehabilitarlo, con el fin de que pudiese albergar varias viviendas. Su estratégico emplazamiento propició que con el tiempo fuera acogiendo nuevos usos, que requerían reformas interiores. Además, durante las últimas décadas del siglo XX, fue creciendo el interés turístico por la casa, lo que originó nuevos cambios para adaptarse a uso público.En la actualidad, el patrimonio actúa como dinamizador cultural, fuente de ingresos y ocupación, y Casa Batlló no es ninguna excepción. En la mayoría de visitas turísticas lo que se pretende es una lectura fácil y lógica del monumento, sin embargo la demanda socio cultural no debe condicionar el edificio histórico. Por tanto, se debe buscar un equilibrio entre las expectativas del turista cultural y los valores del monumento, asegurando así la protección y conservación a generaciones futuras.La Casa requiere nuevas actuaciones que garanticen la seguridad de los usuarios en caso de incendio y el acceso universal. Por este motivo, las administraciones competentes en patrimonio cultural plantearon la necesidad de redactar un Plan Director para su restauración, que unificase criterios de intervención para todas las obras futuras y que definiese unas prioridades de restauración.Redactar el Plan Director implicó una rigurosa investigación para el conocimiento exhaustivo de la Casa que desveló datos desconocidos, pero más importante aún, permitió establecer un rango de valores para concretar los criterios de restauración.Uno de los grandes descubrimientos ha sido constatar la existencia de la única vivienda que permanece como en el origen diseñado por Gaudí.La Casa Batlló, Patrimoni de la Humanitat, és un dels edificis més emblemàtics de Barcelona, no només per la seva ubicació excepcional en un dels eixos més turístics i comercials de la ciutat, sinó també perquè la seva autoria és de l'arquitecte Antoni Gaudí.L'edifici ja existia, però en 1904 la família Batlló, els nous propietaris, van contractar a Gaudí per rehabilitar-lo, per tal que pogués albergar diversos habitatges. En la majoria de visites turístiques el que es pretén és una lectura fàcil i lògica del monument, però la demanda soci cultural no ha de condicionar l'edifici històric. Per tant, s'ha de buscar un equilibri entre les expectatives del turista cultural i els valors del monument, assegurant així la protecció i conservació a generacions futures.La Casa requereix noves actuacions que garanteixin la seguretat dels usuaris en cas d'incendi i l'accés universal. Per aquest motiu, les administracions competents en patrimoni cultural van plantejar la necessitat de redactar un Pla Director per a la restauració, que unifiqués criteris d'intervenció per a totes les obres futures i que definís unes prioritats de restauració.Redactar el Pla Director va implicar una rigorosa investigació per al coneixement exhaustiu de la Casa que va revelar dades desconegudes, però més important encara, va permetre establir un rang de valors per concretar els criteris de restauració.Un dels grans descobriments ha estat constatar l'existència de l'únic habitatge que roman com a l'origen dissenyat per Gaudí.Casa Batlló, World Heritage, is one of the most emblematic buildings of Barcelona, not only for its exceptional location on one of the main tourist and business areas, but also because it was designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí.The building was previous, but in 1905 the family Batlló became the new owners of the House, and so, they hired Gaudí for rehabilitating the building to host several tenements. Its strategic position favoured that the Building, over time, adopted new uses that required internal reforms. In addition, during the last decades of 20th century, tourist interest about Casa Batlló grew immensely, and that led to far-reaching changes in the House to adapt for public use.At present, cultural heritage acts as a cultural catalyst, source of income and occupation, and Casa Batlló is not an exception. In most tourist visits the aim is an easy and logical read of the monument, but socio-cultural demand must not condition historic building, therefore we have to look for a balance between the cultural tourist expectations and the monument values, ensuring this way the protection and conservation for future generations.The House requires several new interventions that will ensure the safe of users in case of fire, and universal accessibility and so competent authorities raised the need of drafting a Management Plan for the restoration of the House, that could align the intervention criteria for future projects and works, and also that defined restoration priorities.The drafting of the Management Plan involved a rigorous search for the in-depth knowledge of the House, that revealed unknown data, but what it was still more important, it enabled establishing a range of values for concretizing restoration criteria.One of the largest discoveries has been determining the existence of the only tenement that remains as the original project designed by Gaudí.Peer Reviewe

Photon management with nanostructures on concentrator solar cells

Optimizing the feature sizes of dielectric nanostructures on the top (ZnS) and bottom (SiO2) surfaces of a 1 μm thick GaAs solar cell, we obtain a higher efficiency (34.4%) than a similar cell with a state of the art bilayer antireflection coating and a planar mirror (33.2%). El difícil equilibrio entre eficiencia energética y conservación de los valores patrimoniales en edificios históricos

La gestión eficiente de la energía en el patrimonio arquitectónico es un tema plenamente actual, que surge del consenso social y político sobre la necesidad de reducir progresivamente el consumo energético de los edificios. El texto que presentamos, a propósito de unas jornadas organizadas para finales de este año 2013, reflexiona sobre la necesaria búsqueda de un equilibrio entre las consideraciones de la eficiencia energética, la imprescindible conservación del patrimonio arquitectónico y la satisfacción de las necesidades de los ocupantes. Sus autores forman parte de un equipo de investigadores de la Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña que está desarrollando un proyecto de investigación al respecto.Postprint (published version
