    Use of Electronic Resources by Law Academics in India

    This study investigated e-resources use, storage, the preferred format for reading, and difficulties faced while accessing e-resources. Electronic resources are playing a crucial role all over the world, and they are increasing widely in all age groups of the academic community. The main aim of the law academics\u27 role is to know the effective use of electronic resources. For this study, we adopted a descriptive survey research design that was used to collect feedback from the respondents through the survey and Google form. The study samples are Progressive Education Society\u27s Modern Law College affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University. BA LLB students are samples of the study. The study findings reveal that 95.1% of student respondents are aware of e-resources; 75.7% of respondents used college websites for accessing legal electronic resources. The most noticeable is that 95.1% of users prefer reading in Portable Document Format (PDF). Overall, more than 50% of respondents felt e-resources are easy to access, time-saving, and search tools. The findings of this study are helpful to library professionals to subscribe to more e-resources. The research suggests that library professionals have to guide the users to conduct orientation on accessing the e-resources more effectively. Students expected user manuals for accessing some databases and e-resources based on the findings, recommendations were made

    Compare Outcomes Of Single Stage Vs Two Stage Urethroplasty For Panurethral Strictures Including Pre-Operative And Post-Operative Course

    Aim: The aim of the present study was to compare outcomes of single stage vs two stage urethroplasty for panurethral strictures including pre-operative and post-operative course. Methods: The Observational study was conducted at Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College and Research Centre, Pimpri for the period of 2 years. The study was conducted in 40 patients randomly dividing into two groups, 20 patients underwent single stage urethroplasty and 20 underwent two staged urethroplasty with or without buccal mucosal graft urethroplasty based on size of urethral plate. Results: In the present study, majority of the patients belonged to 41-50 years age group followed by 31-40 years age group and it was found that age groups were not statistically significant. Majority of the patients had Balanitis xerotica obliterans (LS) etiology followed by Post instrumentation/catheter and the results were not statistically significant. Majority of the patients had 13-15 cms length of stricture. In the present study, 12 and 16 were narrow external uretheral meatus in single and two stage respectively. In the two stage, Johanson’s urethroplasty procedure was done and in single stage, Kulkarni’s full length dorsal onlay BMG urethroplasty procedure was done. In single and two stage, Urethrocutaneous Fistula and Epididymo-orchitis complications were noted. In single stage, success was noted in 16 patients and in two stage, success was noted in 17 patients. Conclusion: The single stage repair in patients with LS had good results with less re-stricture rates. The use of BMG as a substitution in single stage repair had re-stricture rates compared to flaps substitution. The two-stage repair should be limited to complex urethral strictures, failed urethroplasty and obliterated urethral stricture urethral caliber is less than 6F

    Performance of CMS muon reconstruction in pp collision events at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV

    The performance of muon reconstruction, identification, and triggering in CMS has been studied using 40 inverse picobarns of data collected in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV at the LHC in 2010. A few benchmark sets of selection criteria covering a wide range of physics analysis needs have been examined. For all considered selections, the efficiency to reconstruct and identify a muon with a transverse momentum pT larger than a few GeV is above 95% over the whole region of pseudorapidity covered by the CMS muon system, abs(eta) < 2.4, while the probability to misidentify a hadron as a muon is well below 1%. The efficiency to trigger on single muons with pT above a few GeV is higher than 90% over the full eta range, and typically substantially better. The overall momentum scale is measured to a precision of 0.2% with muons from Z decays. The transverse momentum resolution varies from 1% to 6% depending on pseudorapidity for muons with pT below 100 GeV and, using cosmic rays, it is shown to be better than 10% in the central region up to pT = 1 TeV.     Whole Exome Sequencing of Patients with Steroid-Resistant Nephrotic Syndrome

    BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome overwhelmingly progresses to ESRD. More than 30 monogenic genes have been identified to cause steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome. We previously detected causative mutations using targeted panel sequencing in 30% of patients with steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome. Panel sequencing has a number of limitations when compared with whole exome sequencing. We employed whole exome sequencing to detect monogenic causes of steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome in an international cohort of 300 families. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTIIPANTS AND MEASUREMENTS: Three hundred thirty-five individuals with steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome from 300 families were recruited from April of 1998 to June of 2016. Age of onset was restricted to <25 years of age. Exome data were evaluated for 33 known monogenic steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome genes. RESULTS: In 74 of 300 families (25%), we identified a causative mutation in one of 20 genes known to cause steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome. In 11 families (3.7%), we detected a mutation in a gene that causes a phenocopy of steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome. This is consistent with our previously published identification of mutations using a panel approach. We detected a causative mutation in a known steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome gene in 38% of consanguineous families and in 13% of nonconsanguineous families, and 48% of children with congenital nephrotic syndrome. A total of 68 different mutations were detected in 20 of 33 steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome genes. Fifteen of these mutations were novel. NPHS1, PLCE1, NPHS2, and SMARCAL1 were the most common genes in which we detected a mutation. In another 28% of families, we detected mutations in one or more candidate genes for steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome. CONCLUSIONS: Whole exome sequencing is a sensitive approach toward diagnosis of monogenic causes of steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome. A molecular genetic diagnosis of steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome may have important consequences for the management of treatment and kidney transplantation in steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome

    Partial ORF1ab Gene Target Failure with Omicron BA.2.12.1

    Mutations in the genome of SARS-CoV-2 can affect the performance of molecular diagnostic assays. In some cases, such as S-gene target failure, the impact can serve as a unique indicator of a particular SARS-CoV-2 variant and provide a method for rapid detection. Here, we describe partial ORF1ab gene target failure (pOGTF) on the cobas SARS-CoV-2 assays, defined by a $2-thermocycle delay in detection of the ORF1ab gene compared to that of the E-gene. We demonstrate that pOGTF is 98.6% sensitive and 99.9% specific for SARS-CoV-2 lineage BA.2.12.1, an emerging variant in the United States with spike L452Q and S704L mutations that may affect transmission, infectivity, and/ or immune evasion. Increasing rates of pOGTF closely mirrored rates of BA.2.12.1 sequences uploaded to public databases, and, importantly, increasing local rates of pOGTF also mirrored increasing overall test positivity. Use of pOGTF as a proxy for BA.2.12.1 provides faster tracking of the variant than whole-genome sequencing and can benefit laboratories without sequencing capabilities

    Measurement of the inclusive jet cross section in pp collisions at √s = 7TeV

    This is the pre-print version of the Published Article which can be accessed from the link below.The inclusive jet cross section is measured in pp collisions with a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider using the CMS experiment. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 34  pb-1. The measurement is made for jet transverse momenta in the range 18–1100 GeV and for absolute values of rapidity less than 3. The measured cross section extends to the highest values of jet pT ever observed and, within the experimental and theoretical uncertainties, is generally in agreement with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD predictions

    Search for new physics with a monojet and missing transverse energy in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV

    This is the pre-print version of the Published Article which can be accessed at the link below.A study of events with missing transverse energy and an energetic jet is performed using pp collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The data were collected by the CMS detector at the LHC, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36  pb-1. An excess of these events over standard model contributions is a signature of new physics such as large extra dimensions and unparticles. The number of observed events is in good agreement with the prediction of the standard model, and significant extension of the current limits on parameters of new physics benchmark models is achieved
