The Effects of Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on Social Functioning: An Investigation Into the First Year of Treatment
Cancer is currently the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15 in the US. While the number of childhood cancer survivors continues to grow, psychological research on this population has lagged. Existing research on the psychosocial effects of childhood cancer is marked by inconsistent conclusions as well as methodological limitations. However, the effect of childhood cancer on social functioning is one area with relatively more consistency. Existing research suggests that childhood cancer can lead to deficits in prosocial skills as well as the emergence of social problems. The present study investigated individual change in social functioning for five children diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia ALL) over the first year of treatment compared to healthy control peers. Children with cancer demonstrated a decrease in social activity as well as an unexpected increase in social skills not demonstrated by healthy control children
NEEDS AND POSSIBILITIES OF MINIMALIZATION OF MECHANICAL EXERTING OF LOWER EXTREMITIES DURING LANDING IN RECREATIONAL SPORTS
Sports games are favourite form of sports recreational activities. However, positives joint together with performing them are accompanied by certain problems. Frequent injuries and pains of motion apparatus of sportsmen demonstrate this fact. The reason of this phenomena has mechanical origin - inadequate claims on motion apparatus. Rapid changes of direction and speed are namely typical for players. It is showed significantly at jumps, which are the important part of motion in sports games, mainly in volleyball. Great impact force of soles to the ground origins here. The authors of this paper investigate this problem. They choose the goal to know about reaction force of ground during the landing at sports games, factors determining its magnitude and possibilities of influencing of these factors with intention to minimalize reaction force of the ground. The results of the work supplement the knowledge of biomechanics on mechanical exerting of motion apparatus during landing. Paper brings data about the magnitude of overload during these activities. It demonstrates that activities, in which jumps are involved, present the danger of “overlimited" mechanical overload. Simultaneously it ,gives the proofs about the necessity to minimalize the reaction force of ground during the landing
Sickle and Hammer against the Republic. History of the Czechoslovak Communist Party in the Years 1921-1929 (from the Radical Socialism to the Bolshevik Communism)
Než se ale strana stala skutečně komunistickou (bolševickou), musela si projít sériemi vnitřních krizí a obměnami vedení, jak výstižně připomíná...The rigorous thesis "Hammer and sickle against the Republic. The history of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in the years 1921-1929 (From radical socialism to Bolshevik communism)" maps the eight-year life of the subject, which formed its distinct anti-system component in the political system until 1935. The study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the internal events and crises in the Communist Party, its causes, and also to describe the causes of the gradual transformation from a radical socialist party towards a party that would be closer to the ideal of professional revolutionaries, i.e. Bolshevik communism. Since its inception in 1921, the Communist Party represented an entity that was internally afflicted and weakened by periodically recurring crises. It could not have been otherwise as the Communist Party was created as a mass entity with around 350,000 members (,,It was thus possible to create a mass party, but its internal quality was relatively low".). It was therefore clear that, with exaggeration, each member had a different idea of the means by which the basic and at the same time the ultimate goal, the socialist revolution, would be reached. The number of members naturally changed over time, and after the Fifth Congress in 1929, when Gottwald's faction took over the...Ústav českých dějinInstitute of Czech HistoryFilozofická fakultaFaculty of Art
Marketing communication of Restaurants in a Small City
Závěrem práce dojde k určitému zhodnocení a shrnutí komunikačních aktivit jednotlivých restaurací.Running a restaurant in the Czech Republic is not simple. There are many issues regarding gastronomy industry like too much bureaucracy or lack of skilled staff. The Czech Republic is also one of the most competitive countries in Europe in relation to numbers of restaurants per capita. This bachelor thesis is focused on marketing communication of restaurants in a small city called Neratovice. It is a non-tourist city with a lot of people commuting to work or school. Therefore, local restaurants have to reach and take care of a relatively steady clientele. I chose five restaurants from this city. With owners I did semi-structured interviews about their promotions and how they spread a word about their business. I analyzed the results and used them to write this thesis. I use a marketing mix to introduce the topic and describe what it means to run the restaurant. The core of my thesis is last P - promotion. For that reason I use a communication mix as an outline for describing both theoretically and practically communication activities of each restaurant. In conclusion I review individual restaurants and sum up their promotions.Katedra marketingové komunikace a public relationsDepartment of Marketing Communication and Public RelationsFaculty of Social SciencesFakulta sociálních vě
Biophysical characterization of the CAR/RXR protein complex with its binding partners
Konstitutivní androstanový receptor (CAR) hraje v organismu významnou roli xenosenzoru, a proto je hojně exprimován v ledvinách, játrech, žlučníku a v epitelu tenkého střeva, kde dochází k biotransformaci xenobiotik. The constitutive androstane receptor (CAR) plays an important role as a xenosensor in the organism and is therefore widely expressed in the kidney, liver, gallbladder and in the small intestine epithelium, where the biotransformation of xenobiotic occurs. CAR is also an important factor in the elimination of bile acids and bilirubin. CAR has also been shown to have an important role in regulation of glucose and lipid metabolism. Impairment of lipid and glucose metabolism is a common cause of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases such as atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, obesity and insulin resistance. These diseases are called metabolic syndrome and result in severe organ damage. CAR respective its complex with RXRα (retinoid X receptor α) has become a promising biological target for drug discovery for metabolic syndrome. The major aim of this study was a structural characterization of the CAR/RXRα protein complex together with the agonist IV676*HCl, which would describe in detail the interaction of this small molecule with the receptor. Obtained structural information would be used to design improved agonists.Department of Physical and Macromolecular ChemistryKatedra fyzikální a makromol. chemieFaculty of SciencePřírodovědecká fakult
