Gamow-Teller transitions and deformation in the proton-neutron random phase approximation

We investigate reliability of Gamow-Teller transition strengths computed in the proton-neutron random phase approximation, comparing with exact results from diagonalization in full 0ω0\hbar\omega shell-model spaces. By allowing the Hartree-Fock state to be deformed, we obtain good results for a wide variety of nuclides, even though we do not project onto good angular momentum. We suggest that deformation is as important or more so than pairing for Gamow-Teller transitions.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures; added references, clarified discussion with regards to stabilit

Computing top intersections in the tautological ring of MgM_g

We derive effective recursion formulae of top intersections in the tautological ring R(Mg)R^*(M_g) of the moduli space of curves of genus g2g\geq 2. As an application, we prove a convolution-type tautological relation in Rg2(Mg)R^{g-2}(M_g).Comment: 18 page

    Open Gromov-Witten Invariants of Toric Calabi-Yau 3-Folds

We present a proof of the mirror conjecture of Aganagic-Vafa [arXiv:hep-th/0012041] and Aganagic-Klemm-Vafa [arXiv:hep-th/0105045] on disk enumeration in toric Calabi-Yau 3-folds for all smooth semi-projective toric Calabi-Yau 3-folds. We consider both inner and outer branes, at arbitrary framing. In particular, we recover previous results on the conjecture for (i) an inner brane at zero framing in the total space of the canonical line bundle of the projective plane (Graber-Zaslow [arXiv:hep-th/0109075]), (ii) an outer brane at arbitrary framing in the resolved conifold (Zhou [arXiv:1001.0447]), and (iii) an outer brane at zero framing in the total space of the canonical line bundle of the projective plane (Brini [arXiv:1102.0281, Section 5.3]).Comment: 39 pages, 11 figure

The FENE dumbbell polymer model: existence and uniqueness of solutions for the momentum balance equation

We consider the FENE dumbbell polymer model which is the coupling of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with the corresponding Fokker-Planck-Smoluchowski di ffusion equation. We show global well-posedness in the case of a 2D bounded domain. We assume in the general case that the initial velocity is sufficiently small and the initial probability density is sufficiently close to the equilibrium solution; moreover an additional condition on the coeffcients is imposed. In the corotational case, we only assume that the initial probability density is sufficiently close to the equilibrium solution

Surface anisotropy and particle size influence on hysteresis loops in La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 nanoparticles : A simulation approach

    Get PDF
Thermal and hysteretic magnetic properties of La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 nanoparticles were studied using Monte Carlo simulations, with emphasis on the influence of anisotropy. In this work, several nanoparticle sizes ranging from 2.32 to 11.58 nm were analyzed and their properties were compared to those of the bulk material. The magnetic behavior of the material was modeled using the three dimensional Heisenberg model with nearest neighbor interactions. Furthermore, both uniaxial and Néel anisotropies were considered for core and surface magnetic sites respectively. Deviations in the critical temperature and coercive field were observed for nanoparticles when compared with those of the bulk material. In addition to these properties, the special spin configurations that arise from the competition between the exchange, anisotropy and external magnetic field were also studied. All these effects are interpreted in terms of the surface properties such as the Néel anisotropy and the decrease in the coordination number
