    Utilização de chuveiros na sala pré-ordenha e sua influência na produtividade de búfalas da raça Murrah (Bubalus bubalis).

    O estudo foi realizado com 64 búfalas, em dois tratamentos (1 e 2), durante seis dias. No primeiro, antes da ordenha, os animais permaneceram 1h em sala de espera com acesso ao chuveiro No segundo, os animais não tiveram acesso ao chuveiro. Foram registrados Índice de Temperatura de Globo e Umidade (ITGU) e a Umidade Relativa (UR) das salas de ordenha e de espera, Temperatura de Corpo (TC), Frequência Respiratória (FR), Reatividade (REAT), Nível de Estresse (NEST) e a Produção Diária de Leite (PL). Os dados foram analisados com o auxílio do programa SAS. O efeito da FR não foi significativo (P>0,57) sobre a PL. Não houve diferença significativa na PL para a REAT. O NEST foi o mesmo nos dois tratamentos. As regressões da característica (PL_AJ) sobre ITGU Interno (ITGU_I), ITGU Externo (ITGU_E), TC e UR não foram significativas (P>0,12). No tratamento 2 foram observados maior número de animais em classes de estresse, verificou-se que o tratamento 1 possibilitou a mudança ( alguns animais) da zona de alerta ou estresse para a zona de conforto térmico em relação ao ITGU_I. No tratamento 2, todos os animais estavam em estresse térmico. Os animais submetidos ao estresse calórico em ambas as situações utilizaram com eficiência o seu sistema termorregulador, sem interferir na produção de leite

    Summary Zika virus (ZIKV) is mainly transmitted by mosquitoes bites. However, transmission by sexual contacts has been reported in 11 non endemic countries. The rapid spread of ZIKV in Latin American and Caribbean Countries (LCR), person-to-person transmission and perceived risk on people’s well being can affect the emerging economies of LCR which historically dependent on truism. Here we present an analysis on economic outputs for assessing the current impact of ZIKV on markets. Our analysis show an unexpected resilience of LCR markets to international alerts. This positive response represents an opportunity to scale-up interventions for preventing the further spreading of the ZIKV epidemic

    Effects of trigeminal neurostimulation on heart rate variability: comparing cutaneous (Tragus) and tongue (Antero-Dorsal mucosa) stimulation

    BackgroundTrigeminal neurostimulation of the dorsal anterior mucosal surface of the tongue has been proposed to treat a variety of pathologies and to promote neuro-muscular coordination and rehabilitation. Dental ULFTENS can also be considered a form of trigeminal neurostimulation applied to the skin surface bilaterally at the level of the tragus. It has been used for years in dentistry for practical and diagnostic purposes. Previous work has combined the two stimulation techniques showing an efficacy in improving HRV in healthy young women of dental ULFTENS applied to the mucosal surface of the tongue. This work sought to assess whether there is a difference in HRV in relation to the site of application of dental ULFTENS (tragus vs. tongue). If effective in reducing the activity of arousal circuits, this tongue-level stimulation technique could have new clinical applications.Material and methodA new intraoral device allowed electrical stimulation of the dorsal anterior mucosa of the tongue in 80 healthy young women divided into two groups: TUD group (ULFTENS stimulation on the mucosa of the tongue) and Tragus group (stimulation with ULFTENS bilaterally in the area of the tragus). The effects on HRV were monitored by photoplethysmographic wave (PPG). The HRV parameters studied were RMSSD, HF, LF, LF/HF.ResultsOnly the TUD group showed a significant change in selected HRV parameters that was maintained even in the epoch after the end of electrical stimulation. This effect can be considered as a vagal activation and an increased of HRV parameter. The Tragus group did not show significant change in the direction of increased HRV but showed an opposite trend. There were no undesirable or annoying effects of stimulation.ConclusionStimulation of the dorsal anterior (trigeminal) mucosal surface of the tongue with ULFTENS applied with an intraoral device was shown to be able to increase HRV while the same stimulation on tragus area, according to traditional dental ULFTENS procedure, did not show the same effects.Clinical implicationsThis stimulation technique could be an aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders characterized by autonomic disequilibrium such as, in the dental field, TMDs.Trial registration"Effects of Trigeminal Neurostimulation on Heart Rate Variability: Comparing Tragus and Tongue Stimulation".     Penetrance of the V203I variant of the PRNP gene: report of a patient with stroke-like onset of Creutzfeld-Jacob Disease and review of published cases

    open6noCreutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is usually sporadic, but 10-15% of cases are caused by autosomal-dominant pathogenic variants in the prion protein gene (PRNP). A few PRNP variants show low penetrance. We report the case of a 64-year-old man, admitted to the ward with acute onset of aphasia; death occurred 6 weeks later. Brain MRI, EEG pattern and brain pathology were consistent with CJD diagnosis. Genetic analysis revealed a heterozygous V203I variant. We summarized the key clinical findings in patients carrying the V203I variant who were described to date.
