Revision of the Coptic block under ballot for the BMP of the UCS
This is a proposal to add characters for Coptic to the international character encoding standard Unicode. The characters were published in Unicode Standard version 4.1 in March 2005. Before Unicode version 4.1, Coptic was treated as a stylistic variant of Greek. The "Greek and Coptic" block of characters in Unicode included 14 Coptic characters. This document proposed the remaining characters that are needed for the representation of Coptic text. They were published in the "Coptic" block in Unicode 4.1. It includes logotypes used in Coptic as well as Nubian and Old Coptic characters
Accessing Socially Excluded People — Trust and the Gatekeeper in the Researcher-Participant Relationship
This paper describes methodological findings from research to recruit and research hard-to-reach socially excluded people. We review the ways in which researchers have used particular strategies to access hard-to-reach individuals and groups and note that little attention has been given to understanding the implications of the nature of the trust relationship between researcher and participant. Gatekeepers invariably play a role in accessing socially excluded people in research, yet discussion to date invariably focuses on the instrumental role gatekeepers play in facilitating researchers\' access. In this paper we explore the possibilities for analysing relationships in terms of trust and distrust between gatekeeper and socially excluded participant. Our analysis considers the different kinds of relationships that exist between gatekeepers and socially excluded people and, in particular, the relationships of power between gatekeepers and socially excluded people. Insights into the nature of trust among socially excluded people will also be considered. Finally, we discuss how size and use of social networks among socially excluded groups and perceptions of risk in interactions with gatekeepers are important to understanding the possibilities for trustful relationships, and for meaningful and successful access for researchers to socially excluded individuals and groups.Social Exclusion, Access, Research, Gatekeepers, Trust, Distrust, Risk
Two-flux and multiflux matrix models for colored surfaces
International audienceThis paper presents various extensions of the so-called two-flux models for prediction of reflectance and transmittance of diffusing media, i.e. the ubelka-Munk model, and the extension of Kubelka-Munk for stacks of diffusing layers. A first matrix formulation of the Kubelka-Munk differential equations leads to a matrix framework based on transfer matrices, which can be extended to stacks of diffusing layers, stacks of nonscattering films, and stacks of scattering and non-scatterings films as a generalization of the Williams-Clapper model for prediction of the reflectance of paper photographs, each of these configurations being illustrated through various examples. This paper also exposes the limitsof the two flux approach and shows that the matrix formalism extends in a straightforward manner to multiflux models, where the size of the matrices is increased
The Emerging Role of E-Agribusiness - State of the Art and Perspectives in Germany
The aim of this paper is to describe and analyse the emerging role of electronic agribusiness and the corresponding consequences in Germany. The study was carried out as a consecutive step by step procedure, including empirical surveys in farm and agribusiness small and medium size enterprises, accompanied by case studies in agribusiness firms, and a technology assessment expert survey. The results indicate that internet penetration on farm and agribusiness enterprise levels is rather high, but currently information and communication activities clearly dominate over commercial business activities. The case studies show that the internal communication changed significantly due to the implementation of internet applications like emailing, newsgroups, periodic information sheets and video-conferencing. Additionally, external communication changes according to the availability of internet features, e.g. suppliers of parts established internet networks for co-ordinated sales activities. The technology assessment expert survey indicates a gain in importance for pre- and after-sales services and communication activities by using internet technologies. Conclusions are - among others - an increasing importance of e-agribusiness and correspondingly an acceleration of structural change, but low or no expected effects on ecological parameters and on the labour market.E-Business, E-Agribusiness, Technology assessment, Survey, Germany, Agribusiness,
An annotated list of the Lepidoptera of Honduras
A biodiversity inventory of the Lepidoptera of Pico Bonito National Park and vicinity, in the Department of Atlantida of northern Honduras, was initiated in 2009 to obtain baseline data. We present a revised checklist of Honduran butterfly species (updated from the initial 1967 lists), as well as the first comprehensive list of Honduran moths. Our updated list includes 550 species of Papilionoidea, 311 Hesperioidea, and 1,441 moth species

Organische Dünger in Topfkulturen auf dem Prüfstand - wie steht es mit der Stickstofffreisetzung?
Matching nitrogen demand of plants and N release of organic fertilizers with respect to amount and timing is one key for successful cultivation of organic ornamentals. Thereby for plants with a low to moderate N demand growers can add the fertilizer as complete preplant application (CPA). For plants with a high N demand splitting fertilization in a reduced preplant application combined with an additional fertigation (RPA+F) is preferable. Aim of the current research was the investigation of N release of organic fertilizers in incubation experiments. Results of the incubation experiment were linked to a pot trial with pelargonium. Incubation experiments reveal that most
fertilizers release about 40 to 50 % of total N and most nitrogen is released within the first 21 days. Only for sheep wool a delay of N release up to ten days was found. CPA using sheep wool and RPA+F (irrespective of fertilizer) give the best results. The delayed release pattern of sheep wool seems to match best N demand of plants
Gause's exclusion principle revisited: artificial modified species and competition
Gause's principle of competition between two species is studied when one of
them is sterile. We study the condition for total extinction in the niche,
namely, when the sterile population exterminates the native one by an optimal
use of resources. A mathematical Lotka-Volterra non linear model of interaction
between a native and sterile species is proposed. The condition for total
extinction is related to the initial number of sterile individuals
released in the niche. In fact, the existence of a critical sterile-population
value is conjectured from numerical analysis and an analytical
estimation is found. When spatial diffusion (migration) is considered a
critical size territory is found and, for small territory, total extinction
exist in any case. This work is motived by the extermination agriculture
problem of fruit flies in our region.Comment: 11 pages. Published in Jour.Phys.A Math.Gen. 33, 4877 (2000
As duas últimas localizadas no sul do Brasil.
