Performance evaluation of a hybrid vehicle and sensor network to prevent traffic accidents

    Get PDF
In recent years, wireless networks have become a widespread communication technology as well as a research challenge. Many contributions have been made on ad hoc networks, such as wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). Recently, the number of cars on our streets, roads, and highways has been increasing, giving rise to a great interest in vehicular communication technologies. This paper presents an hybrid sensor and vehicular network (HSVN) platform, as well as the description and evaluation of a communication protocol between VANETs and WSNs using a network simulator for its evaluation

Refugees are more vulnerable without civil registration and ID. How can we help?

French version available in IDRC Digital LibraryCivil registration and identity documentation (ID) can lower the barriers and risks that refugees face. Birth registration provides proof of a child’s name, place of birth and identity of parents. This enables the child to claim proof of nationality and thus access their rights. Proof of age, identity and nationality facilitates freedom of movement, access to essential services, and social protection

How civil registration can protect and empower women and girls

Civil registration is particularly important to women and girls, because it can help balance out gender inequalities. This brief report covers areas of particular concern for girls: child marriage; access to education; inheritance laws and rights; access to banking; and civil and political rights

Legal identity for all : why we need to link CRVS and ID management systems

Proof of legal identity unlocks access to basic services (such as bank accounts, claim benefits, travel, legal protection) and the exercise of human rights. One billion people are estimated to have no way of proving their identity, putting them at greater risk of poverty, statelessness, exploitation, and abuse. This media article provides information on civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems and how to build-in inclusive identity management. A CRVS system registers vital events including births, deaths, marriages, and divorces, on a continuous and permanent basis. An ID system is a logical extension of a CRVS system

Why CRVS systems are essential to achieving the sustainable development goals

    Get PDF
Civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems are essential for monitoring progress towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which seek to eliminate poverty and improve lives. This condensed media post provides information and links to resources that shed light on improving access to CRVS systems for women and girls. The solutions to current challenges are likely to be as complex as the barriers to access. Countries must prioritize investment in CRVS systems if they are to monitor and advance towards SDGs
