Spurs of the Peninsular Range of Southern California extend southeasterly into the Salton Sink at several places along its western margin, and thus produce a mountain front characterized by deep re-entrant valleys. The origin of these peculiar features has been much discussed, and with this problem in view the present investigation was undertaken. A strip about 15 miles wide across the southern portion of the Indio Quadrangle, extending from the Salton Sea westerly to the upland area of the main Peninsular Range has been studied in some detail. Special attention has been given to the structure. This area includes two spurs, the Santa Rosa and Coyote spurs, and two re-entrant valleys, Clark and Borego Valleys

The relationship between IPOs and macroeconomic factors in the Chinese stock market

The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between external macroeconomic factors and the number of monthly IPOs in the Chinese stock market using data from the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE). The study investigated four macroeconomic variables: industrial production (economic activity), long-term interest rates, stock market return, and market volatility. In simplistic terms, these four macroeconomic factors constitute the independent variables, and the number of monthly IPOs for the Chinese market constitutes the dependent variables. As stated, the data were obtained from the Shanghai Stock Exchange and consisted of Monthly IPOs from 2010 to 2020. The study also split the data set into two time periods, 2010–2013 and 2014–2020, to examine the effects of the global financial crisis of 2007–2008 on the Chinese IPO market. The period from 2010 to 2013 represents the “aftershock period,” and the period from 2014 to 2020 represents the “stability period.” By employing several econometric models, research results indicate that all four macroeconomic variables impacted IPOs in the Chinese stock market during the 10-year period under consideration

The number of students enrolled in online courses continues to grow despite declining overall higher education enrollments. This trend charges educators to focus efforts on improving student outcomes and academic success within distance learning courses. This paper investigates if a midterm exam retest were available to online college students taking introductory principles of economics courses, which students would increase their human capital stock in these distant learning courses and take a retest? We examine, age, race, and gender to examine if these sociodemographic factors affect one’s option to retest

Creating an Effective Faculty Senate Leadership Team

The purpose of this chapter is to examine how gender positively influences processes and procedures of faculty-led groups within higher educational institutions. A closer inspection of the gender makeup of these faculty-led groups may shed light on the role gender plays in shaping the policies pursued. There will be a section on the effectiveness of using an online platform in terms of efficiency and communication dynamics. The authors, who served as faculty senate leaders, will use a case study approach, plus their own reflections, to explore ways to improve institutional effectiveness within faculty governance. </jats:p
