The importance of the express delivery industry for the East Midlands economy

This report assesses the importance of the express delivery industry for the economy of the East Midlands. It complements a similar report looking at the economic importance of the express industry for the UK as a whole. As well as quantifying the direct economic contribution made by companies in the express industry to employment and Gross Value Added (GVA) in the East Midlands, it also considers the importance of express services to businesses in other sectors in the region based on a detailed survey of 75 companies (a sample that we consider is appropriate to a study of this type and robust enough to help highlight key trends). This survey illustrates the contribution that the express industry makes to the capabilities and competitiveness of other sectors of the East Midlands economy

This book contains a sampling of recent ERS research illustrating the breadth of the Agency’s research on current policy issues: from biofuels to food consumption to land conservation to patterns of trade for agricultural products. What you won’t find in this collection is any mention of economists’ favorite analytic tools (regression analyses, for example, and coefficients of variation). We wanted this guide to highlight results, not process. Even so, the findings on display here are all based on rigorous and robust application of such tools as well as use of the latest econometric techniques.Farm Policy, Risk Management, Food Consumption, Food Nutrition Assistance, Conservation Policy, Food Assistance and Nutrition Programs, Food Security, Agricultural Productivity in the U.S., Farm Structure, Rural Population, Environmental Interactions, Invasive Species Management, Bioenergy, Global Food Markets, NAFTA, Organic Agriculture, Agricultural and Food Policy, Crop Production/Industries, Farm Management, Food Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety, Food Security and Poverty,

The "Dobrescu Macromodel" of the Romanian Market Economy - 2005 Version Yearly Forecast Summer Forecast 2009

The macromodel estimates the short and medium-term economic implications for domestic policies and changes in the international context. This version of the Romanian macromodel incorporates the experience accumulated through the utilisation of its previous forms - either experimental (tested during 1991-1995) or operational (developed during 1996-2003). At the same time, it introduces some methodological and informational improvements. The most significant is the structural decomposition of the economy, associated with input-output techniques. Due to the relatively advanced stage of the transition processes in Romania, the behavioural functions were accommodated - as much as possible - to the standard relationships. Unlike the versions that used the statistical series beginning with 1980, the present one is based exclusively on information concerning the period 1989-2004. Therefore, we consider it is appropriate to name this variant the macromodel of the Romanian market (not transition, as before) economy. In this article we present three scenarios for 2009.model, input-output analysis, econometric relationships, simulations
