Constructing Point Form Mass Operators from Interaction Lagrangians

Starting from an interaction Lagrangian formed out of local fields, an interacting four-momentum operator is constructed by integrating the interaction Lagrangian over the forward hyperboloid. Such a four-momentum operator has the property that the components commute among themselves; however, when the Fock space on which the four-momentum operator acts is truncated, the components no longer commute among themselves. By modifying matrix elements of the four-momentum operator on the truncated space, Bakamjian-Thomas mass operatorsare constructed which restore the Poincare relations. Examples for a simple Lagrangian are given.Comment: 15 page

Unitarity and the Bethe-Salpeter Equation

We investigate the relation between different three-dimensional reductions of the Bethe-Salpeter equation and the analytic structure of the resultant amplitudes in the energy plane. This correlation is studied for both the $\phi^2\sigma$ interaction Lagrangian and the $\pi N$ system with $s$-, $u$-, and $t$-channel pole diagrams as driving terms. We observe that the equal-time equation, which includes some of the three-body unitarity cuts, gives the best agreement with the Bethe-Salpeter result. Relativistic Quantum Mechanics - Particle Production and Cluster Properties

Solution of the Bethe-Salpeter equation for pion-nucleon scattering

A relativistic description of pion-nucleon scattering based on the four-dimensional Bethe-Salpeter equation is presented. The kernel of the equation consists of s- and u-channel nucleon and delta pole diagrams, as well as rho and sigma exchange in the t-channel. The Bethe-Salpeter equation is solved by means of a Wick rotation, and good fits are obtained to the s- and p-wave phase shifts up to 360 MeV pion laboratory energy. The coupling constants determined by the fits are consistent with the commonly accepted values in the literature.Comment: 34 pages, RevTeX; 7 figures. Several references added, a few typos corrected. What is the structure of the Roper resonance?

We investigate the structure of the nucleon resonance N^*(1440) (Roper) within a coupled-channel meson exchange model for pion-nucleon scattering. The coupling to pipiN states is realized effectively by the coupling to the sigmaN, piDelta and rhoN channels. The interaction within and between these channels is derived from an effective Lagrangian based on a chirally symmetric Lagrangian, which is supplemented by well known terms for the coupling of the Delta isobar, the omega meson and the 'sigma', which is the name given here to the strong correlation of two pions in the scalar-isoscalar channel. In this model the Roper resonance can be described by meson-baryon dynamics alone; no genuine N^*(1440) (3 quark) resonance is needed in order to fit piN phase shifts and inelasticities.Comment: 55 pages, 14 figure

[تسعى هذه القراءة النقدية لرواية دراكولا (١٨٩٧) لبرام ستوكر، التي تنتمي إلى العصر الفكتوري، لوضع العمل في سياق حركة العلمنة الأوروبية۰ وتستشف هذه المقالة مخاوف أوروبا ـ في عصر ما بعد التنوير تجاه البعث وخاصة تجاه قيام المسيح ـ الثاوية في ثنايا العمل۰ إن القرن الذي شهد نشر دراكولا قد شهد أيضاً نشر العديد من الأعمال التي حاولت أن تنظر نظرة تاريخية خالصة إلى الكتاب المقدس وخاصة إلى الجزء الخاص بحياة المسيح۰ وبينما كان النقد التاريخي الأدبي ويهيمن تدريجياً على دراسة الإنجيل، كانت دراسة الروح (النفس) تخضع هي الأخرى لتشريح أطباء العقل وعلم التحليل النفسي۰ ويظهر هذان النوعان من الهيمنة في دراكولا، سواء في بنية السرد عند استبطانها أو على مستوى الموضوعات الأساسية المتجلية في العمل۰ تبدأ المقالة بإدراج الرواية في سياق أوبئة الاستنزاف الأوروبية ـ وخاصة تلك التي ترتبط بالهامة التي تمتص الدماءـ ويركز الجزء الثاني من المقالة على بنية السرد وعلى الإنتاج الوثائقي والنصوصي داخل الرواية۰ فهوس مطاردي دراكولا بالكتابة (التي تستدعي الكتاب ) يكشف عن الرغبة غير المعلن عنها في محاكاة وإزاحة الكتاب المقدس في آن واحد۰ ويقترح الجزء الثالث من المقالة تفسير شخصية دراكولا على أنها استرجاع لصورة المسيح ثم كبتها، بل قمعها، من قبل الذاكرة الجماعية الأوروبية۰ وفي هذا الجزء من المقالة تستعين الباحثة ببعض مفاهيم ومصطلحات فرويد التي توظفها وتفسرها لصالح منطلقاتها أي الكشف عن القلق الناتج عن العلمنة، حيث يستبدل قتل المسيح الذي منح دمه وبعث ـ كما في التراث المسيحي ـ إلى حكاية معكوسة عن دراكولا الذي مات وقام هامة تمتص الدماء۰ ويحاول هذا الجزء أيضاً من المقلة أن يجعل علم النفس ينكفئ على ذاته عبر استخدام ميكانيزمات تفسيره لإدراك مقولاته۰ أما الجزء الرابع من المقالة ـ وهو البحث البوليسي عن المفاتيح ـ فيقوم بتحليل الأساليب السردية الظاهرة والكامنة في الرواية التي تختزل المقدس إلى حالة من حالات الجنون أو الخلل النفسي، وإن كانت تعجز عن التخلص من المقدس۰ وتختتم الباحثة مقالتها بالإشارة إلى إمكانية الاستفادة من رواية دراكولا بتوظيفها توظيفاً رمزياً لما يحدث في صراعات الشرق الأوسط السياسية والدينية من محاولات لطمس عقائد وكيانات۰
