Economics and Politics: Perspectives on the Goals and Future of Antitrust

This Article examines the roles of economics and politics in U.S. antitrust from several perspectives. It explains why the modern debate over the economic welfare standard that enforcers and courts should pursue is unsatisfying. It connects economics with politics by describing antitrust’s economic goals as the product of a mid-twentieth century political understanding about the nature of economic regulation that continues to be accepted. To protect that understanding, it explains, antitrust rules should now be implemented using a qualified consumer welfare standard. It identifies contemporary political tensions that threaten to create regulatory gridlock or even to undermine that political understanding and uses that framework to sketch several possible futures for competition policy. Notwithstanding these political tensions, the Article concludes, economics plays an indispensable role in shaping and applying modern antitrust

Nuclear-Electronic All-Particle Density Matrix Renormalization Group

We introduce the Nuclear Electronic All-Particle Density Matrix Renormalization Group (NEAP-DMRG) method for solving the time-independent Schr\"odinger equation simultaneously for electrons and other quantum species. In contrast to already existing multicomponent approaches, in this work we construct from the outset a multi-reference trial wave function with stochastically optimized non-orthogonal Gaussian orbitals. By iterative refining of the Gaussians' positions and widths, we obtain a compact multi-reference expansion for the multicomponent wave function. We extend the DMRG algorithm to multicomponent wave functions to take into account inter- and intra-species correlation effects. The efficient parametrization of the total wave function as a matrix product state allows NEAP-DMRG to accurately approximate full configuration interaction energies of molecular systems with more than three nuclei and twelve particles in total, which is currently a major challenge for other multicomponent approaches. Francos, pero excluidos de la mezquita y del cementerio: los Bellito y los Galip de la morería de Zaragoza

Su franquicia de no contribuir en los impuestos de la morería de Zaragoza, porque dependían de señorío eclesiástico, les comportó una cierta exclusión social puesto que la aljama afirmaba que quien no contribuía en las cargas no debía beneficiarse de los servicios religiosos como la mezquita o el cementerio. Исследование защитных характеристик аппаратов защиты от токов утечки рудничных на постоянном оперативном токе в условиях дестабилизирующих факторов комбинированных сетей

У статті розглянуті питання захисних характеристик апаратів захисту від струмів витоку рудничних на постійному оперативному струмі в умовах дестабілізуючих факторів комбінованих мереж. Показано, що захисні характеристики досліджених апаратів захисту на постійному оперативному струмі в умовах дестабілізуючих факторів комбінованих мереж не підтверджують факту дестабілізації їхньої роботи тільки несиметричними витоками на ділянці постійного струму. Встановлено, що і опір апарату сильно дестабілізує роботу таких апаратів при витоках на стороні до перетворювача.В статье рассмотрены вопросы защитных характеристик аппаратов защиты от токов утечки рудничных на постоянном оперативном токе в условиях дестабилизирующих факторов комбинированых сетей. Показано, что защитные характеристики исследованных аппаратов защиты на постоянном оперативном токе в условиях дестабилизирующих факторов комбинированных сетей не подтверждают факта дестабилизации их работы только несимметричными утечками на участке постоянного тока. Установлено, что и сопротивление аппарата сильно дестабилизирует работу таких аппаратов при утечках на стороне до преобразователя
