ISBN 978-3-319-44798-8How learning occurs within Free/Libre Open Source (FLOSS) communities and what is the dynamics such projects (e.g. the life cycle of such projects) are very relevant questions when considering the use of FLOSS projects in a formal education setting. This paper introduces an approach based on the 3C collaboration model (communication, coordination and cooperation) to represent the collaborative learning dynamics within FLOSS communities. To explore the collaborative learning potential of FLOSS communities a number of questionnaires and interviews to selected FLOSS contributors were run. From this study a 3C collaborative model applicable to FLOSS communities was designed and discussed.Programa Operacional da Região Norte, NORTE2020, in the context of project NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000037FCT under grant SFRH/BSAB/113890/201

Multi-objective optimization of gate location and processing conditions in injection molding using MOEAs: experimental assessment

    Get PDF
The definition of the gate location in injection molding is one of the most important factors in achieving dimensionally accuracy of the parts. This paper presents an optimization methodology for addressing this problem based on a Multi-objective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA). The algorithm adopted here is named Reduced Pareto Set Genetic Algorithm (RPSGA) and was used to create a balanced filling pattern using weld line characterization. The optimization approach proposed in this paper is an integration of evolutionary algorithms with Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) software (Autodesk Moldflow Plastics software). The performance of the proposed optimization methodology was illustrated with an example consisting in the injection of a rectangular part with a non-symmetrical hole. The numerical results were experimentally assessed. Physical meaning was obtained which guaranteed a successful process optimization. This work was supported by the Portuguese Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia under grant SFRH/BD/28479/2006 and IPC/I3N – Institute for Polymers and Composites, University of Minho.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Detecting Change in the Urban Road Environment Along a Route Based on Traffic Sign and Crossroad Data

    Get PDF
Occurrences of traffic signs that belong to certain sign categories and occurrences of crossroads of various topologies are utilized in detecting change in the urban road environment that moves past an ego-car. Three urban environment types, namely downtown, residential and industrial/commercial areas, are considered in the study and changes between these are to be detected. In the preparatory phase, the ego-car is used for traffic sign and crossroads data collection. In the application phase, the ego-car hosts an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that captures and analyzes images of the road environment and computes the required input data to the proposed road environment detection (RoED) subsystem. A statistical inference method relying on the minimum description length (MDL) principle was applied to the change detection problem at hand. The above occurrences along a route are seen as a realization of an inhomogeneous marked Poisson process. Page-Hinkley change detectors tuned to empirical data were set to work to detect change in the urban road environment. The process and the quality of the change detection are demonstrated via examples from three urban settlements in Hungary. Document type: Part of book or chapter of boo

This is an accepted manuscript of an article published by Elsevier in Journal of Thermal Biology on 18/07/2017, available online: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jtherbio.2017.07.006 The accepted version of the publication may differ from the final published version.© 2017 Elsevier Ltd The importance of using infrared thermography (IRT) to assess skin temperature (tsk) is increasing in clinical settings. Recently, its use has been increasing in sports and exercise medicine; however, no consensus guideline exists to address the methods for collecting data in such situations. The aim of this study was to develop a checklist for the collection of tsk using IRT in sports and exercise medicine. We carried out a Delphi study to set a checklist based on consensus agreement from leading experts in the field. Panelists (n  =  24) representing the areas of sport science (n = 8; 33%), physiology (n = 7; 29%), physiotherapy (n = 3; 13%) and medicine (n = 6; 25%), from 13 different countries completed the Delphi process. An initial list of 16 points was proposed which was rated and commented on by panelists in three rounds of anonymous surveys following a standard Delphi procedure. The panel reached consensus on 15 items which encompassed the participants’ demographic information, camera/room or environment setup and recording/analysis of tsk using IRT. The results of the Delphi produced the checklist entitled “Thermographic Imaging in Sports and Exercise Medicine (TISEM)” which is a proposal to standardize the collection and analysis of tsk data using IRT. It is intended that the TISEM can also be applied to evaluate bias in thermographic studies and to guide practitioners in the use of this technique.Published versio

Treatment of the title substrate with propylamine yielded 2-propyl-9-propylamino-3-propylimino-2, 3-dihydro-pyrrolo[3, 4-b] quinolin-1-one (15%) and a S-containing product (63%). The latter is inferred (from its spectral and chemical properties) to be a (1:1) complex of 2-propyl-3-propylimino-9-thioxo-2, 3, 4, 9-tetrahydro-pyrrolo[3, 4-b]quinolin-1-one (derived via an unusual S-rearrangement) with propylamine. The propylamine in the complex is removed by acid or thermally to provide the aforementioned 9-thioxo component which structure was substantiated froma X-ray crystal analysis. Aminolysis of the title substrate with ethylamine afforded the analogous ethyl-substituted products. (South African Journal of Chemistry: 2003 56: 30-33

Scaffolds of bioglass derived from BG45S5 (45 wt% SiO2, 24.5 wt% CaO, 24.5 wt% Na2O and 6 wt% P2O5) containing 10 wt% niobium were prepared by gelcasting method. The scaffolds presented a 3D porous structure with interconnected and spherical pores (pore size range 100 µm to 500 µm) and high porosity (89%), similar to trabecular architecture of spongy bone. The compressive strength was 0.18 ± 0.03 MPa which is acceptable for bone repair applications. The in vitro biological studies showed cytocompatibility for human osteoblastic cells as well tendency for higher alkaline phosphatase activity. Therefore, the findings here suggest the great potential of the scaffolds for using in bone tissue engineering. This work was supported by São Paulo Research Foundation - FAPESP (Grant: 2015-24659-7), National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (Grant: 456461/2014-0) and Erasmus Mundus Program (Be Mundus Project). Disserta??o (Mestrado Profissional) ? Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Tecnologia, Sa?de e Sociedade, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2017.The Social Security Education Program (PEP) was created with the purpose of informing and making society aware of its rights and duties in relation to Social Security and the means of exercising them, in order to ensure social protection for citizens through their inclusion And permanence in the General Regime of Social Security. However, what is still observed is the occurrence of a large number of refusals in the requests related to benefits with the INSS. The objective of this study was to analyze and reflect on the Social Security Education Program (PEP), using as parameters the number of attendances and the indices of denial of social security benefits, required by the rural worker, a special insured, raising the reasons for Of these proceedings. With a more effective action, a guiding booklet containing the basic documents for requesting benefits was elaborated, complementary documents proving the activity of rural workers, as well as the access channels and partner entities. As a reflection, this public policy was discussed based on the offer of several social security benefits and its reflexes to guarantee the income of the rural population. It also analyzed the implications for the promotion of citizenship and the concepts that frame the recognition of rights to benefits focused on the rural worker. It was observed that over a period of approximately six years, 18,694 applications were rejected considering only the rural - special insured public, of the region that covers the Management of Te?filo Otoni, which reflected in an amount of more than 466.6 million Of real that stopped entering the local economy. It was noticeable that, even with the PEP, the lack of information constitutes a major bottleneck for the granting of social security benefits, resulting in the denial of the requirements. Thus, it is expected that the booklet may contribute to reducing the number of refusals, strengthening the regional economy, recognition by the rural public that Brazilian public welfare is their heritage, and, finally, recognition of rights that were previously Being harmed

Additionally, the creation of such devices results ces results in an increase in the consumption of natural resources and the generation of several poisonous and dangerous compounds, which are typically not handled appropriately. Circularizing the linear model now used in the Electric and Elsotronic Equipment (EEE) value chain is one strategy that might be used to address such issues. The recovery of End-of-Life products and the reintroduction of their parts, components, or raw mate- rials (such as semiconductors, circuit boards, taw metals, ev.) into the value chain are examples of this, which help to create a value chain that is more sustainable. Having that in mind, to accomplish a more sustainable approach, this work proposes the implementa- tion of a traceability mechanism throughout the FFF value chain, to follow step by step an item or activity in the value chain. The traceability mechanism provides real-time tra- ceability information about an item, offers a historical record about an object throughout the value chain, and optimizes processes in the supply chain. It can be achieved by using Bbokchain Technology (BCT) integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technobgy. On one hand, Blockchain uses distributed ledgertechnology for implementinga distri- buted database that allows participants to securely store information in real-time. At the same time, it provides a consensus mechanism for peer-to-peer transactions, therefore, eliminating the requirement for a middleman to process and preserve transaction data. On the other hand, IoT facilitate in the connection between the physical and the digi- tal worlds. This work aims to take the advantages delivered by BCT and join it with IoT technology for advancing digital circular economy in the FEE value chain. By integrating BCT and IoT technology in an EFF value chain can boost operation optimization and efficiency, decreasing human errors in inventory management and giving product tracea- bility throughout its core value chain stages: 1) e-waste collection; 2) e-waste storage; 3) manual sorting, dismantling, shredding, 4) mechanical separation; and 5) recovery
