    Search for double charmonium decays of the P-wave spin-triplet bottomonium states

    Full text link
    Using a sample of 158 million Υ(2S)\Upsilon(2S) events collected with the Belle detector, we search for the first time for double charmonium decays of the PP-wave spin-triplet bottomonium states (Υ(2S)γχbJ\Upsilon(2S) \to \gamma \chi_{bJ}, \chi_{bJ} \to \jpsi \jpsi, \jpsi \psp, \psp \psp for J=0, 1, and 2). No significant χbJ\chi_{bJ} signal is observed in the double charmonium mass spectra, and we obtain the following upper limits, \BR(\chi_{bJ} \to \jpsi \jpsi)<7.1\times 10^{-5}, 2.7×1052.7\times 10^{-5}, 4.5×1054.5\times 10^{-5}, \BR(\chi_{bJ} \to \jpsi \psp)<1.2\times 10^{-4}, 1.7×1051.7\times 10^{-5}, 4.9×1054.9\times 10^{-5}, \BR(\chi_{bJ} \to \psp \psp)<3.1\times 10^{-5}, 6.2×1056.2\times 10^{-5}, 1.6×1051.6\times 10^{-5} for J=0, 1, and 2, respectively, at the 90% confidence level. These limits are significantly lower than the central values (with uncertainties of 50% to 70%) predicted using the light cone formalism but are consistent with calculations using the NRQCD factorization approach.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, 1 tabl

    Using data samples of 102×106102\times10^6 Υ(1S)\Upsilon(1S) and 158×106158\times10^6 Υ(2S)\Upsilon(2S) events collected with the Belle detector, a first experimental search has been made for double-charmonium production in the exclusive decays Υ(1S,2S)J/ψ(ψ)+X\Upsilon(1S,2S)\rightarrow J/\psi(\psi')+X, where X=ηcX=\eta_c, χcJ(J= 0, 1, 2)\chi_{cJ} (J=~0,~1,~2), ηc(2S)\eta_c(2S), X(3940)X(3940), and X(4160)X(4160). No significant signal is observed in the spectra of the mass recoiling against the reconstructed J/ψJ/\psi or ψ\psi' except for the evidence of χc1\chi_{c1} production with a significance of 4.6σ4.6\sigma for Υ(1S)J/ψ+χc1\Upsilon(1S)\rightarrow J/\psi+\chi_{c1}. The measured branching fraction \BR(\Upsilon(1S)\rightarrow J/\psi+\chi_{c1}) is (3.90±1.21(stat.)±0.23(syst.))×106(3.90\pm1.21(\rm stat.)\pm0.23 (\rm syst.))\times10^{-6}. The 90%90\% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions of the other modes having a significance of less than 3σ3\sigma are determined. These results are consistent with theoretical calculations using the nonrelativistic QCD factorization approach.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, 1 table. The fit range was extended to include X(4160) signal according to referee's suggestions. Other results unchanged. Paper was accepted for publication as a regular article in Physical Review

    First Observation of Radiative B^0 -> \phi K^0 \gamma Decays and Measurements of Their Time-Dependent CP Violation

    Full text link
    We report the first observation of the radiative decay B^0 -> \phi K^0 \gamma using a data sample of 772 x 10^6 B B-bar pairs collected at the \Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider. We observe a signal of 37+/-8 events with a significance of 5.4 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. The measured branching fraction is B(B0>ϕK0γ)=(2.74±0.60±0.32)×106{\cal B}(B^0 -> \phi K^0 \gamma) = (2.74\pm 0.60 \pm 0.32) \times 10^{-6}, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. We also report the first measurements of time-dependent CP violation parameters: SϕKS0γ=+0.741.05+0.72(stat)0.24+0.10(syst){\mathcal S}_{\phi K_S^0 \gamma} = +0.74^{+0.72}_{-1.05} (stat)^{+0.10}_{-0.24} (syst) and AϕKS0γ=+0.35+/0.58(stat)0.10+0.23(syst){\mathcal A}_{\phi K_S^0 \gamma} = +0.35 +/- 0.58 (stat)^{+0.23}_{-0.10} (syst). Furthermore, we measure B(B+>ϕK+γ)=(2.48+/0.30+/0.24)x106{\mathcal B}(B^+ -> \phi K^+ \gamma) = (2.48 +/- 0.30 +/- 0.24) x 10^{-6}, ACP=0.03+/0.11+/0.08{\mathcal A}_{CP} = -0.03 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.08 and find that the signal is concentrated in the M_{\phi K} mass region near threshold.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, Modified version is to be published in PRD(RC

    We report new measurements of the total cross sections for e+eΥ(nS)π+πe^+e^-\to \Upsilon(n{\rm S})\pi^+\pi^- (nn = 1, 2, 3) and e+ebbˉe^+e^-\to b\bar b from a high-luminosity fine scan of the region s=10.63\sqrt{s} = 10.63-11.0511.05 GeV with the Belle detector. We observe that the Υ(nS)π+π\Upsilon(n{\rm S})\pi^+\pi^- spectra have little or no non-resonant component and extract from them the masses and widths of Υ(10860)\Upsilon(10860) and Υ(11020)\Upsilon(11020) and their relative phase. We find M10860=(10891.1±3.21.7+0.6)M_{10860}=(10891.1\pm3.2^{+0.6}_{-1.7}) MeV/c2c^2 and Γ10860=(53.75.6+7.15.4+1.3)\Gamma_{10860}=(53.7^{+7.1}_{-5.6}\,^{+1.3}_{-5.4}) MeV and report first measurements M11020=(10987.52.5+6.42.1+9.0)M_{11020}=(10987.5^{+6.4}_{-2.5}\,^{+9.0}_{-2.1}) MeV/c2c^2, Γ11020=(6119+920+2)\Gamma_{11020}=(61^{+9}_{-19}\,^{+2}_{-20}) MeV, and ϕ11020ϕ10860=(1.0±0.40.1+1.4)\phi_{\rm 11020}-\phi_{\rm 10860} = (-1.0\pm0.4\,^{+1.4}_{-0.1}) rad.Comment: University of Cincinnati preprint UCHEP-15-01, submitted to Physical Review D - Rapid Communication

    Inclusive study of bottomonium production in association with an η\eta meson in e+ee^+e^- annihilations near Υ(5S)\Upsilon(5S)

    Get PDF
    We study bottomonium production in association with an η\eta meson in e+ee^+e^- annihilations near the Υ(5S)\Upsilon(5S), at a center of mass energy of s=10.866\sqrt{s}=10.866\,GeV. The results are based on the 121.4121.4\,fb1^{-1} data sample collected by the Belle experiment at the asymmetric energy KEKB collider. Only the η\eta meson is reconstructed and the missing-mass spectrum of η\eta candidates is investigated. We observe the e+eηΥJ(1D)e^+e^-\to\eta\Upsilon_J(1D) process and find evidence for the e+eηΥ(2S)e^+e^-\to\eta\Upsilon(2S) process, while no significant signals of Υ(1S)\Upsilon(1S), hb(1P)h_b(1P), nor hb(2P)h_b(2P) are found. Cross sections for the studied processes are reported.Comment: Submitted to EPJ-

    Search for the decay B0DK0B^0\to DK^{*0} followed by DKπ+D\to K^-\pi^+

    Full text link
    We report a study of the decay B0DK+πB^0\rightarrow D K^+\pi^- followed by DKπ+D\rightarrow K^-\pi^+, where DD indicates D0D^0 or Dˉ0\bar{D}^0. We reconstruct the DK+πD K^+\pi^- state in a phase space corresponding to DK(892)0D K^{*}(892)^0. The CP-violating angle ϕ3\phi_3 affects its decay rate via the interference between bub\rightarrow u and bcb\rightarrow c transitions. The result is obtained from a 711 fb1{\rm fb}^{-1} data sample that contains 772 ×106BBˉ\times 10^6 B\bar{B} pairs collected at the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+ e^- collider. We measure the ratio RDK0Γ(B0[Kπ+]DK+π)/Γ(B0[K+π]DK+π){\cal R}_{DK^{*0}} \equiv \Gamma(B^0\rightarrow [K^-\pi^+]_DK^+\pi^-)/\Gamma(B^0\rightarrow [K^+\pi^-]_DK^+\pi^-) to be (4.15.01.8+5.6+2.8)×102(4.1 ^{+ 5.6 + 2.8}_{- 5.0 - 1.8}) \times 10^{-2}, and set an upper limit of RDK0<0.16{\cal R}_{DK^{*0}} < 0.16 at the 95% confidence level

    Bounds on the width, mass difference and other properties of X(3872) --> pi+pi-J/psi decays

    Full text link
    We present results from a study of X(3872) --> pi+pi- J/psi decays produced via exclusive B--> K X(3872) decays. We determine the mass to be M_X(3872)= (3871.84\pm 0.27 (stat)\pm 0.19 (syst)) MeV, a 90% CL upper limit on the natural width of Gamma_X(3872) K+X(3872))xBf(X(3872)-->pi+pi-J/psi)=(8.61 \pm 0.82(stat) \pm 0.52 (syst)) x10^{-6}, and a ratio of branching fractions Bf(B0--> K0 X(3872))/BF(B+--> K+ X(3872))=0.50\pm 0.14(stat)\pm0.04(syst). The difference in mass between the X(3872)-->pi+pi-J/psi signals in B+ and B0 decays is Delta M_{X(3872)= (-0.69 \pm 0.97 (stat)} \pm 0.19 (syst)) MeV. A search for a charged partner of the X(3872) in the decays Bbar0-->K- X+ or B+-->K0X+, X+-->pi+pi0 J/psi resulted in upper limits on the product branching fractions for these processes that are well below expectations for the case that the X(3872) is the neutral member of an isospin triplet. In addition, we examine possible J^{PC} quantum number assignments for the X(3872) based on comparisons of angular correlations between final state particles in X(3872)-->pi+pi-J/psi decays with simulated data for J^{PC} values of 1^{++} and 2^{-+}. We examine the influence of rho-omega interference in the M(pi+pi-) spectrum. The analysis is based on a 711fb^{-1} data sample that contains 772 million BBbar meson pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance in the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures and 6 tables. Measurement of the CP-violation Parameter sin2ϕ1\phi_1 with a New Tagging Method at the Υ(5S)\Upsilon(5S) Resonance

    Full text link
    We report a measurement of the CP-violation parameter sin2ϕ1\phi_1 at the Υ(5S)\Upsilon(5S) resonance using a new tagging method, called "BB-π\pi tagging." In Υ(5S)\Upsilon(5S) decays containing a neutral BB meson, a charged BB, and a charged pion, the neutral BB is reconstructed in the J/ψKS0J/\psi K_S^0 CP-eigenstate decay channel. The initial flavor of the neutral BB meson at the moment of the Υ(5S)\Upsilon(5S) decay is opposite to that of the charged BB and may thus be inferred from the charge of the pion without reconstructing the charged BB. From the asymmetry between BB-π+\pi^+ and BB-π\pi^- tagged J/ψKS0J/\psi K_S^0 yields, we determine sin2ϕ1\phi_1 = 0.57 ±\pm 0.58(stat) ±\pm 0.06(syst). The results are based on 121 fb1^{-1} of data recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ee^+ e^- collider.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures (submitted to PRL

    Observation of an alternative χc0(2P)\chi_{c0}(2P) candidate in e+eJ/ψDDˉe^+ e^- \rightarrow J/\psi D \bar{D}

    Full text link
    We perform a full amplitude analysis of the process e+eJ/ψDDˉe^+ e^- \rightarrow J/\psi D \bar{D}, where DD refers to either D0D^0 or D+D^+. A new charmoniumlike state X(3860)X^*(3860) that decays to DDˉD \bar{D} is observed with a significance of 6.5σ6.5\sigma. Its mass is (386232+2613+403862^{+26}_{-32}{}^{+40}_{-13}) MeV/c2c^2 and width is (20167+15482+88201^{+154}_{-67}{}^{+88}_{-82}) MeV. The JPC=0++J^{PC}=0^{++} hypothesis is favored over the 2++2^{++} hypothesis at the level of 2.5σ2.5\sigma. The analysis is based on the 980 fb1\mathrm{fb}^{-1} data sample collected by the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy e+ee^+ e^- collider KEKB.Comment: 17 pages, 11 figure

    Study of B^0 -> rho^0 rho^0 decays, implications for the CKM angle phi_2 and search for other B^0 decay modes with a four-pion final state

    Full text link
    We present a study of the branching fraction of the decay B^0->rho0rho0 and the fraction of longitudinally polarized rho0 mesons in this decay. The results are obtained from the final data sample containing 772 million BBbar pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We find 166 +- 59 B^0 -> rho0 rho0 events (including systematic uncertainties), corresponding to a branching fraction of B(B^0->rho0rho0) = (1.02 +- 0.30 (stat) +- 0.15 (syst)) x 10^{-6} with a significance of 3.4 standard deviations and a longitudinal polarization fraction fL = 0.21^{+0.18}_{-0.22} (stat) +- 0.15 (syst). We use the longitudinal polarization fraction to determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix angle phi_2 = (84.9 +- 13.5) degrees through an isospin analysis in the B->rhorho system. We furthermore find 149 +- 49 B^0->f0rho0 events, corresponding to B(B^0->f0rho0) x B(f0->pi+pi-) = (0.78 +- 0.22 (stat) +- 0.11 (syst)) x 10^{-6}, with a significance of 3.1 standard deviations. We find no other significant contribution with the same final state, and set upper limits at 90% confidence level on the (product) branching fractions, B(B^0->pi+pi-pi+pi-)rho0pi+pi-)<12.0 x 10^{-6}, B(B^0->f0pi+pi-) x B(f0->pi+pi-) f0f0) x B(f0->pi+pi-)^{2} < 0.2 x 10^{-6}.Comment: 21 pages, 20 figures, conference paper for the 2012th CKM workshop, submitted to PR
