On the Use of the p-q Theory for Harmonic Current Cancellation with Shunt Active Filters

    Get PDF
Discussion and mathematical proof on necessary and sufficient conditions for the application of the {p-q} theory for compensating the harmonic currents consumed by non-linear load using a shunt active filter are presented. These conditions over instantaneous active and reactive powers were not addressed before and must be considered on the design of new control strategies based on {p-q} theory. Theoretical demonstration is proposed and an application example with simulations results is used to validate the theoretical results

INTERREGIONAL MOBILITY OF THE PRODUCTIVE FACTORS AND THE STRUCTURAL DEFICIENCIES IN THE ECONOMY: THE EXPULSION OF MANPOWER FROM GALICIA

Mobility as a factor of labour is- especially in this stage of economic globalization - a positive aspect that permits the suitability of human capital with regard to the remaining productive factors and the promotion of competitiveness. However, it is also an element that can determine the existence of structural deficiencies in the regions or countries of origin of the emigrants, a true reflection of the inadequacy of matching the demand for labour to an offer that is increasingly qualified. Galicia is a community with extensive experience in the expulsion of manpower to other regions and countries. During the XX century, all the specialists in this area pointed out two waves that were perfectly differentiated in time. The first Galician emigration (fundamentally transoceanic) occurred in the first half of the century and was the result of the deagrarianization of the Galician economy and the incapacity of the industrial and the services sectors to absorb the surplus manpower. The second one was fundamentally directed towards European countries as a consequence, once again, of the inadequate regional capacity of creating extra-agrarian employment and the increasing demand for industrial and services manpower in the economies of the nearby countries. In the last few years of the past century, and especially in the first decade of the XXI century, signs and empirical evidence have started to be detected that in Galicia a wave of what can be de qualified as new emigration is being produced. Indeed, the figures of interregional mobility in Spain indicate the fact that in the last few years, tens of thousands of Galicians have been contracted to work in other Spanish regions. The object of this research, as a result of available date, is to quantify those movements of manpower and, by establishing some starting hypotheses, to verify the causes of the modern third emigration from Galicia

La temporalidad escolar en cuestión. Negociaciones en una escuela secundaria y en un Plan FinEs

    Get PDF
In this article there is dialogue between two investigations that share the interest about the forms of being at school. Immersed in the discussion about the high school traditional format as well as the implementation of public policies for education completion –particularly the Plan de high school finalization-, these researches wonder about the school experience of popular young people and adults from La Plata in both formats. Holding that it´s not enough to provide universal access, it´s also necessary to consider the school permanence, here we aim to work on the negotiations students should do between schooling and the dimensions of domestic and extra domestic work. Thus, using ethnographic records, the objective is to visualize who the students from popular sectors deal this temporalities in school everyday.Fil: Gonzalez, Federico Martin. Dimensionality and morphology of particle and bubble clusters in turbulent flow

    Get PDF
We conduct numerical experiments to investigate the spatial clustering of particles and bubbles in simulations of homogeneous and isotropic turbulence. Varying the Stokes parameter and the densities, striking differences in the clustering of the particles can be observed. To quantify these visual findings we use the Kaplan--Yorke dimension. This local scaling analysis shows a dimension of approximately 1.4 for the light bubble distribution, whereas the distribution of very heavy particles shows a dimension of approximately 2.4. However, clearly separate parameter combinations yield the same dimensions. To overcome this degeneracy and to further develop the understanding of clustering, we perform a morphological (geometrical and topological) analysis of the particle distribution. For such an analysis, Minkowski functionals have been successfully employed in cosmology, in order to quantify the global geometry and topology of the large-scale distribution of galaxies. In the context of dispersed multiphase flow, these Minkowski functionals -- being morphological order parameters -- allow us to discern the filamentary structure of the light particle distribution from the wall-like distribution of heavy particles around empty interconnected tunnels.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figure

On the distortions in calculated GW parameters during slanted atmospheric soundings

    Get PDF
The significant distortions introduced in the measured atmospheric gravity wavelengths by soundings other than those in vertical and horizontal directions, are discussed as a function of the elevation angle of the sounding path and the gravity wave aspect ratio. Under- or overestimation of real vertical wavelengths during the measurement process depends on the value of these two parameters. The consequences of these distortions on the calculation of the energy and the vertical flux of horizontal momentum are analyzed and discussed in the context of two experimental limb satellite setups: GPS-LEO radio occultations and TIMED/SABER ((Atmosphere using Broadband Emission Radiometry/Thermosphere-Ionosphere-Mesosphere-Energetics and Dynamics)) measurements. Possible discrepancies previously found between the momentum flux calculated from satellite temperature profiles, on site and from model simulations, may to a certain degree be attributed to these distortions. A recalculation of previous momentum flux climatologies based on these considerations seems to be a difficult goal.Fil: de la Torre, Alejandro. The poorly known diversity of the genus Mysella in the southwestern Atlantic is improved with the description of a new species from San Julian Bay, Santa Cruz Province, Argentina. Mysella patagona new species is characterized by the relative large, strikingly subquadrate, slightly inequilateral and flat shell; a cleft hinge plate, with two widely diverging teeth in the right valve, and a cylindrical internal ligament located in a deep ligamental pit. From the anatomical point of view, M. patagona new species is characterized by the presence of inner and outer demibranchs, with very few interlamellar junctions. The marked subquadrate shell outline easily distinguishes M. patagona from any other Mysella species currently known from the Magellan Region.Fil: Ituarte, Cristian Federico. The radiation field in the Gamma Irradiation Facility GIF++ at CERN

The high-luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) upgrade is setting now a new challenge for particle detector technologies. The increase in luminosity will produce a particle background in the gas-based muon detectors that is ten times higher than under conditions at the LHC. The detailed knowledge of the detector performance in the presence of such a high background is crucial for an optimized design and efficient operation after the HL-LHC upgrade. A precise understanding of possible aging effects of detector materials and gases is of extreme importance. To cope with these challenging requirements, a new Gamma Irradiation Facility (GIF++) was designed and built at the CERN SPS North Area as successor of the Gamma Irradiation Facility (GIF) during the Long Shutdown 1 (LS1) period. It features an intense source of 662 keV photons with adjustable intensity, to simulate continuous background over large areas, and, combined with a high energy muon beam, to measure detector performance in the presence of the background. The new GIF++ facility has been operational since spring 2015. In addition to describing the facility and its infrastructure, the goal of this work is to provide an extensive characterization of the GIF++ photon field with different configurations of the absorption filters in both the upstream and downstream irradiation areas. Moreover, the measured results are benchmarked with Geant4 simulations to enhance the knowledge of the radiation field. The absorbed dose in air in the facility may reach up to 2.2 Gy/h directly in front of the irradiator. Of special interest is the low-energy photon component that develops due to the multiple scattering of photons within the irradiator and from the concrete walls of the bunker
