Interpreting CNN Knowledge via an Explanatory Graph
This paper learns a graphical model, namely an explanatory graph, which
reveals the knowledge hierarchy hidden inside a pre-trained CNN. Considering
that each filter in a conv-layer of a pre-trained CNN usually represents a
mixture of object parts, we propose a simple yet efficient method to
automatically disentangles different part patterns from each filter, and
construct an explanatory graph. In the explanatory graph, each node represents
a part pattern, and each edge encodes co-activation relationships and spatial
relationships between patterns. More importantly, we learn the explanatory
graph for a pre-trained CNN in an unsupervised manner, i.e., without a need of
annotating object parts. Experiments show that each graph node consistently
represents the same object part through different images. We transfer part
patterns in the explanatory graph to the task of part localization, and our
method significantly outperforms other approaches.Comment: in AAAI 201
General stationary charged black holes as charged particle accelerators
We study the possibility of getting infinite energy in the center of mass
frame of colliding charged particles in a general stationary charged black
hole. For black holes with two-fold degenerate horizon, it is found that
arbitrary high center-of-mass energy can be attained, provided that one of the
particle has critical angular momentum or critical charge, and the remained
parameters of particles and black holes satisfy certain restriction. For black
holes with multiple-fold degenerate event horizons, the restriction is
released. For non-degenerate black holes, the ultra-high center-of-mass is
possible to be reached by invoking the multiple scattering mechanism. We obtain
a condition for the existence of innermost stable circular orbit with critical
angular momentum or charge on any-fold degenerate horizons, which is essential
to get ultra-high center-of-mass energy without fine-tuning problem. We also
discuss the proper time spending by the particle to reach the horizon and the
duality between frame dragging effect and electromagnetic interaction. Some of

The role of EGFR mutation as a prognostic factor in survival after diagnosis of brain metastasis in non-small cell lung cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Abstract Background The brain is a common site for metastasis in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study was designed to evaluate the relationship between the mutational of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and overall survival (OS) in NSCLC patients with brain metastases. Methods Searches were performed in PubMed, EmBase, and the Cochrane Library to identify studies evaluating the association of EGFR mutation with OS in NSCLC patients through September 2017. Results 4373 NSCLC patients with brain metastases in 18 studies were involved. Mutated EGFR associated with significantly improved OS compared with wild type. Subgroup analyses suggested that this relationship persisted in studies conducted in Eastern, with retrospective design, with sample size ≥500, mean age of patients ≥65.0 years, percentage male < 50.0%, percentage of patients receiving tyrosine kinase inhibitor ≥30.0%. Finally, although significant publication bias was observed using the Egger test, the results were not changed after adjustment using the trim and fill method. Conclusions This meta-analysis suggests that EGFR mutation is an important predictive factor linked to improved OS for NSCLC patients with brain metastases. It can serve as a useful index in the prognostic assessment of NSCLC patients with brain metastases
