Potraga za pravom subjektivnošću nasuprot otkrivanju transsubjektivizacije u romanu GUT Symmetries Jeanette Winterson

    Get PDF
The present paper intends to closely explore the process of identity formation in the characters of Jeanette Winterson’s novel Gut Symmetries in light of Catherine Malabou’s notions of plasticity, destructive plasticity or trauma, and trans-subjectivation. Identity as an inconsistent procedure of becoming would be intensely explicated in Gut Symmetries through the viewpoint of the characters, in particular Alice. Identity as a mere space or crack, which constantly provides the opportunity for the subject to observe himself/herself, could be introduced as Catherine Malabou’s notion of plasticity of the subjectivity or trans-subjectivation in the novel. The juxtaposition of the pliability of quantum physics and trans-subjectivity in the novel would be highlighted to emphasize that presence, time, identity, and even being could be nothing other than plasticity or ever-fluctuating matter and non-matter. Plasticity as the absolute nucleus of existence, identity, and love would be manifested as perceptible in the form of trans-subjectivity. Sadism as a form of destructive plasticity would be spotlighted as the death drive in the novel and it corroborates the plasticity of love, which could betransformed into hate. Spotlighting femininity as essenceless, Alice and Stella would be represented as the instances of femininity that is mutable and erratic.

Analysis of urban environmental quality using satisfaction index: An empirical assessment of Jashore Pourashava (Municipality), Bangladesh

Urbanization in Bangladesh presents numerous challenges, including regional inequality, centralized development, poverty, social stratification, traffic congestion, housing shortages, slum proliferation, and environmental degradation. This study offers a comprehensive analysis of urban environmental quality in Jashore Pourashava (Municipality), Bangladesh, utilizing a satisfaction index to evaluate key socio-economic and environmental dimensions. The findings highlight significant transportation challenges, health issues, and infrastructural inadequacies that collectively diminish residents' quality of life. Health concerns, particularly respiratory illnesses, are exacerbated by environmental factors such as mosquito-borne diseases and water pollution. While most households benefit from government-supplied water and permanent sanitation facilities, critical gaps in education, waste management, and sanitation services lead to widespread dissatisfaction. Additionally, environmental degradation, driven by water contamination and rapid urbanization, contributes to the declining ecological balance. The study underscores the urgent need for coordinated efforts by the government, non-governmental organizations, and local communities to address these socio-economic and environmental deficiencies, with the goal of fostering sustainable urban development and improving living conditions for residents

Politics of Evasion and Tales of Abjection: Postmodern Demythologization in Angela Carter and Ghazaleh Alizadeh

Angela Carter and Ghazaleh Alizadeh as the prophetesses of postmodern fairy tales in British and Persian literature re-narrativize these tales as a loophole from socio-political stagnation and cultural paralysis. Evading direct contact with the political jargons of their eras, they seek gender generativity via the fairy tale machine. Alizadeh finds refuge in modernizing Persian fairy tales. Carter chants her frustration at Thatcherism through gender subversion. Carter’s and Alizadeh’s revulsion at the politics of gender in their eras can be read via the duet between the abject and the chora in Kristeva’s thought. It is through the encounter with the external abject that the internal abject is activated culminating in the efflorescence of the chora. The liminality of the chora becomes the battleground on which poetics of gender beats off politics of logos through subversion and syncretism. While Carter obtains abjection through overt sexualization of fairy tales, Alizadeh resorts to indirection due to the political climate of her time. Unlike Carter who is quite outspoken about her fairy tale project, Alizadeh is reticent, allusive, and somber trying to remind her readers of the gloomy reality that being a woman in the Middle Eastern countries is always already punctuated with docility

Thermodynamic Analysis for Adsorption of Amoxicillin onto Magnetic Carbon Nanotubes

    Get PDF
The effect of temperature on the equilibrium adsorption of Amoxicillin (AMO) from aqueous solution using modified magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MMWCNTS) was investigated. The equilibrium adsorption data were analyzed using three widely applied isotherms: Langmuir, Freundlich and Tempkin. The results revealed that Langmuir isotherm fit the experimental results well. Kinetic analyses were conducted using pseudo-first and second-order models and the intraparticle diffusion model. The regression results showed that the adsorption kinetics were more accurately represented by pseudo-second-order model. Standard free energy changes (G0), standard enthalpy change (H0), and standard entropy change (S0) were calculated at different temperatures. TheG0 values were negative and H0 values and S0 values of MMWCNTS were positive; and suggested that the AMO adsorption on MMWCNTS was a spontaneous and endothermic process

Development of an Arduino-based electrical impedance tomography system with application to dam internal erosion detection

Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is a technique for the imaging of the electrical properties of conductive materials. In EIT, the spatial distribution of the electrical resistivity or electrical conductivity within a domain is reconstructed using measurements made with electrodes placed at the boundaries of the domain. Data acquisition is typically made by applying an electrical current to the object under investigation using a set of electrodes, and measuring the developed voltage between the other electrodes. The tomographic image is then obtained using an inversion algorithm. This work describes the implementation of a simple and low cost 3D EIT measurement system suitable for laboratory-scale studies. The system was specifically developed for the time-lapse imaging of soil samples subjected to erosion processes during laboratory tests. The tests reproduce the process of internal erosion of soil particles by water flow within a granular media; this process is one of the most common causes of failure of earthen levees and embankment dams. The measurements needed strict requirements of speed and accuracy due to the varying time scale and magnitude of these processes. The developed EIT system consists of a PC which controls I/O cards (multiplexers) through the Arduino micro- controller, an external current generator, a digital acquisition device (DAQ), a power supply and the electrodes. The ease of programming of the Arduino interface greatly helped the implementation of custom acquisition software, increasing the overall flexibility of the system and the creation of specific acquisition schemes and configurations. The system works with a multi-electrode configuration of up to 48 channels but it was designed to be upgraded to an arbitrary large number of electrodes by connecting additional multiplexer cards (> 96 electrodes). The acquisition was optimized for multi-channel measurements so that the overall time of acquisition is dramatically reduced compared to the single channel instrumentation. The accuracy and operation were tested under different conditions. The results from preliminary tests show that the system is able to clearly identify objects discriminated by different resistivity. Furthermore, measurements carried out during internal erosion simulations demonstrate that even small variations in the electrical resistivity can be captured and these changes can be related to the erosion processes

Methylene blue (MB) is the most commonly used substance for dyeing cotton, wood and silk. On inhalation, it can cause difficulty in breathing, while on direct contact, it may cause permanent injury of the eyes of human and animals, burning sensations, nausea, worming, profuse sweating, mental confusion and methemoglobinemia. In the present study, Salvadora persica stem ash was used as an adsorbent for the successful removal of methylene blue (MB) dye from aqueous solutions. The effect of various operating parameters such as initial concentration of dye (20 to 200 mg/L), contact time (5 to 270 min), adsorbent dosage (0.2 to 10 g/L) and pH (2 to 13) was investigated. The results of this study shows that the S. persica stem ash was able to remove up to 97% of MB dye from solutions with various initial dye concentrations at initial pH of 13. Also, the equilibrium data were also fitted to the Langmuir and Freundlich equilibrium isotherm models. It was found that the data fitted better to Freundlich (R2=0.9314) than Langmuir (R2=0.8836) model. Finally, it can be concluded that the S. persica stem ash can be used for textile industry wastewater treatment.Key words: Methylene blue (MB), adsorption, S. persica, natural adsorbent
