Using Education and Time Maximization for Effective Study Habits of Students in Tertiary Institutions
This paper explains that there is a blend of education and time maximization for effective study habits of students in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Education will certainly take its rightful place to enlighten and transform individuals, societies and nations as it will eliminate common problems like: being members of secret cults, participating in robbery, kidnapping, restive and terrorist activities. It also x-rays time management as an antidote to students and national development, and it has to be utilized wisely by students, leaders, individuals, and so on. The paper recommended, among others, that Nigerian students should shun all forms of time-wasting activities through sincerity, honesty, and accountability in every responsible activity so as to make sure that the reading culture and study habits are religiously strengthened on campus. Keywords: education, culture, transformation, time maximization, laboratory, study activitie
Total knee arthroplasty revision risks depending on the bone cement used-Data from 50,545 knee replacements of the Catalan Arthroplasty Registry
Total knee arthroplasty; Bone cement; Catalan Arthroplasty Register (RACat)Artroplàstia total de genoll; Ciment ossi; Cirurgia de revisióArtroplastia total de rodilla; Cemento óseo; Cirugía de revisiónClinical data on individual bone cement brands and viscosities in cemented total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is scarce. The Catalan arthroplasty registry (RACat) documents usage of cement brands including viscosities and the inclusion of antibiotics. The objective was to compare the clinical performance of the widely used bone cement brand PALACOS® to other blinded bone cement brands in TKA using data from the RACat.
Patient data on 50,545 primary TKA between 2007 and 2017 in the RACat were analysed retrospectively. Implant survival of PALACOS bone cement was compared to other blinded bone cement brand groups using the all-cause revision risk as primary study endpoint.
Comparing implant survival, it was found that (1) PALACOS® (with or without gentamicin) was associated with a significantly lower revision risk compared to other cement brands (with or without antibiotics) (
Type of cement brand, viscosity and the addition of antibiotics have an impact on revision risk of TKA. Medium viscosity cement with gentamicin (PALACOS MV+G), for which no clinical data were previously available, was associated with the lowest revision risk in TKA.

Developing a holistic approach to the analysis of farmer decision-making: implications for adaptation policy and practice in developing countries
Smallholder farmers operate within a risky and uncertain context. In addition to climate variability and climate change, social, environmental, institutional, and market-related dynamics affect their agricultural decisions and ability to cope and adapt. In this paper, we develop and apply a set of framing questions to investigate the factors shaping farmer decision-making and how these are situated in pathways of response. Drawing on a literature review of decision-making for risk management, four questions are posed to frame enquiry: who makes livelihood decisions, why they are made, and how and when they are made. This approach conceptualises and explores household decision-making in a holistic manner, moving beyond previous studies that examine smallholder decisions through disciplinary boundaries (e.g. psychology, economics, risk management) or particular theoretical approaches (e.g. bounded rationality, theory of planned behaviour). The framing questions are used to design and interpret empirical evidence from Pratapgarh, a tribal-dominated rainfed district in southeast Rajasthan, India. The findings suggest that while resource ownership and access are the main drivers of decision-making, socio-cognitive factors such as perceived adaptive capacity and perceived efficacy to carry out adaptive actions are equally important factors mediating farmer responses. We also find that the holistic approach helps explain how personal motivations and individual perceptions of adaptive capacity interact with socioeconomic, climatic, and agro-ecological dynamics at local and regional scales to mediate risk perception and inform response behaviour. Making a case for mixed methods to investigate farmer decision-making holistically, this paper provides an approach that reflects the complex and iterative nature of real farmer decision-making and can be used by researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to better understand and describe decision making and to develop informed policies and interventions
Conflicts Around Forest Reserves in Zimbabwe: What Prospects for Community Management?
Summary Due to the failure of the post?independent state to address the land inequities of the colonial era, conflicts over land resources are prevalent in Zimbabwe. This is particularly the case in and around state forest reserves. Recognising these conflicts, the Zimbabwe Forestry Commission has been exploring possibilities of co?management arrangements for forest reserves. This article examines one such pilot programme, exploring its historical origins in both national and local debates about forest policy The way historical experiences of forest management impinge on current thinking are highlighted, including how these feed into the contrasting perceptions of the ecological, economic and social values of forest resources of officials and local people. Major social differences among communities surrounding forest areas mean that local perceptions are highly varied. Given this context, the prospects for co?management arrangements where forest resources are shared are discussed
Bipartite bound entanglement in continuous variables through degaussification
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)We introduce a class of bipartite entangled continuous variable states that are positive under a partial transposition (PPT) operation, i.e., PPT bound entangled. These states are based on realistic preparation procedures in optical systems, being thus a feasible option to generate and observe genuinely bipartite bound entanglement in high precision experiments. One fundamental step in our scheme is to perform a non-Gaussian operation over a single-mode Gaussian state. This degaussification procedure is achieved through a modified single-photon addition, which is a procedure that is currently being investigated in diverse optical setups. Although dependent on a single-photon detection in an idler channel, the preparation can be made unconditional after a calibration of the apparatus. The detection and proof of bound entanglement is made by means of the range criterion, theory of Hankel operators and Gerschgorin Disk's perturbation theorems.893Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft [SFB 652]Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)AITFCoordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft [SFB 652]CAPES [2021 - 10 - 2
Comparable bone penetration between antibiotic-loaded and plain bone cement in total knee arthroplasty
Introduction: One of the main concerns around the use of antibiotic-loaded bone cement (ALBC) is the potential reduction in the mechanical properties of the cement when antibiotics are admixed. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a difference between plain cement and ALBC in terms of radiological intrusion into the bone in total knee arthroplasties (TKAs). Methods: Prospective randomized study of 80 consecutive patients who underwent TKA. Depending on the cement used, patients were divided into two groups by a computer-generated randomization programme: the cement without antibiotic (Group 1) or the ALBC (Group 2). Cement intrusion was measured in postoperative radiographs in eight different regions in the tibial component and six regions in the femoral component. Results: The average cement intrusion was similar in both groups (p = nonsignificance [n.s.]). Group 1 (plain cement) had an average cement intrusion in the femur of 1.4 mm (±0.4) and 2.4 mm (±0.4) in the tibia. In Group 2 (ALBC), the average cement intrusion in the femur came to 1.6 (±0.5) and 2.4 mm (±0.5) in the tibia. In 80% of the patients, the cement intrusion in the tibia averaged a minimum of 2 mm, being similar in both groups (p = n.s.). Conclusion: There are no differences in bone intrusion when comparing plain cement to ALBC. Therefore, the use of ALBC in primary TKA may be indicated, achieving optimal bone penetration.
