Evaluasi Sistem Manajemen K3 Terhadap Metode Pemancangan Jack-in Pile
Pekerjaan Pekerjaan pondasi menggunakan metode jack-in pile sering kali menjadi pilihan pada proyek-proyek konstruksi di Surabaya. Meskipun lebih praktis dibandingkan metode lain, metode ini tetap menggunakan banyak alat berat sehingga kontraktor perlu memperhatikan penerapan peraturan untuk keselamatan para pekerjanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah sistem manajemen K3 yang telah diterapkan oleh Perusahaan-Perusahaan kontraktor pemancangan sudah sesuai dengan peraturan yang ada atau tidak, serta mengetahui faktor-faktor yang memungkinkan terjadinya kecelakaan kerja. Dari hasil 2 metode penelitian yang dilakukan, didapatkan hasil yang cukup berbeda. Hasil wawancara tidak sesuai dengan hasil observasi di lapangan. Persentase penerapan yang mencapai 87,5% pada saat wawancara ternyata berbeda jauh dengan Kenyataannya yang hanya mencapai persentase 53,85%. Dari hasil ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa belum semua sistem manajemen K3 yang direncanakan oleh Perusahaan-Perusahaan kontraktor pemancangan diaplikasikan dengan baik di lapangan. Perusahaan tidak pernah menyediakan rambu-rambu K3 yang menyebabkan kesadaran yang rendah dari para pekerjanya untuk mentaati peraturan-peraturan, sebagai contoh, pekerja yang menggunakan helm hanya 38%, operator yang menggunakan pelindung kepala hanya 25%, kebersihan dan ketertiban di proyek masih sangat buruk
Penentuan Aktivitas Antioksidan Berdasarkan Nilai IC50 Ekstrak Metanol Dan Fraksi Hasil Partisinya Pada Kulit Biji Pinang Yaki (Areca Vestiaria Giseke)
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan nilai IC50 ekstrak metanol dan hasil partisinya dari ekstrak Areca vestiaria Giseke. Penelitian dimulai dengan proses maserasi menggunakan pelarut metanol, kemudian dievaporasi pada suhu 40oC dan menghasilkan 27,3 g ekstrak pekat dari 330,2 g sampel. Selanjutnya, ekstrak metanol diuji aktivitas antioksidannya dan diperoleh nilai IC50 sebesar 8,3 ppm.. Ekstrak kemudian dipartisi dengan pelarut n-heksana, etil asetat dan air dan dievaporasi. Seluruh fraksi kemudian diuji aktivitas antioksidannya dan fraksi etil asetat menunjukkan aktivitas antioksidan yang paling baik dengan nilai IC50 sebesar 10,9 ppm.The purposes of this research were to determine the IC50 values from methanol extract and its extract partition of extract Areca vestiaria Giseke. The research was started with maceration process using methanol as a solvent, then evaporated at 40oC which produce 27,3 g extract from 330,2 g sample. After that, methanol extract was tested its antioxidant activity and the result of IC50 values was 8,3 ppm. And then, the extract was partitioned with n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water and evaporated. All of the fraction was then tested its antioxidant activity. Ethyl acetate fraction showed the best antioxidant activity with IC50 values of 10,9 ppm
Assessing the Energy Impact of Different Strategies of Integrating PV/Thermal Heat Recovery Systems in Scottish Homes
The research on photovoltaic thermal (PV/T) solar systems has been on the rise. In 2005, the International Energy Agency (IEA) Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC) programme launched the 1st Task 35 experts meeting to initiate international collaboration on PV/T solar systems. Following the end of the Task 35 research activities, SHC and the Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems (ECBCS) formed a Task 40/Annex 52 joint programme and commenced collaboration on net zero energy solar buildings. Their studies encompass the scrutiny of exemplary net zero energy solar building projects selected from each participating country. Canada’s first net zero energy home, called Écoterra house, built in 2007 through the federal government’s sustainable housing initiative, and the United Kingdom’s Z-en house are currently amongst them. Both projects have been aimed at demonstrating PV/T systems for space heating in addition to power generation. This feasibility study was initiated in order to lead Scottish Z-en house builder, ROBERTRYAN Homes, to thorough understanding of basic features and potential performance of a PV/T HR system under Scottish climatic conditions and further explore how the system can effectively be integrated with the Z-en house to be constructed in 2012/13. The house is being designed to circulate PV heated air throughout the interior via a mechanical ventilation heat recovery system—i.e. implementation of a PV/T MVHR system. In this study, the heat generating capacity of low efficient PV cells (amorphous silicon) and the high efficient counterparts (poly-crystalline) was analysed using the energy and environment simulation tool called EESLISM which was invented in 1989 by Prof. Mitsuhiro Udagawa, Kogakuin University, Japan. The air flow assisted by the MVHR system was assumed to be 300m3/h, 432m3/h or 864m3/h and the velocity of 0.45m/s, 0.5m/s or 1m/s, respectively. The fresh air is drawn under a 7% or 14% efficient PV roof whose module coverage is set according to the nominal power output of either 4kWp or 8kWp. This study confirmed that PV generates heat which makes the fresh air running under the PV roof 10-15˚C warmer than the outside temperature even during the Scottish winter. Low efficient amorphous silicon PV generates more heat than high efficient PV of the same nominal power output due to the necessarily larger area of amorphous PV roof coverage as well as the less sensitivity to temperature rise as opposed to the mono/polycrystalline counterparts. In short, the ventilated PV/T integrated roof helps raise the temperature of the fresh air running under the PV panels and being extracted by an MVHR system, if both the roof and the extractor are connected physically via a duct; thus, it contributes to supplementing the indoor space heating. The architectural integration was considered as important and was visualised in the course of this study. Moreover, the air flow of the PV/T HR system was also considered as one of the key cost-effective design factors that help improve the PV/T heat collecting performance while maintaining electricity generation properties as the PV modules are cooled by the ventilation. In the 7% efficient 4kWp PV/T roof with an angle of 30˚, the EESLISM simulation indicated that the annual rate of PV/T heat collection could be increased by 77% when the ventilation air velocity is changed from 0.5m/s to 1.0m/s. The mere manipulation of the air flow is more economic and about 13 times more efficient than the increase of the PV size from 4kWp to 8kWp. Similar tendency was observed in the 14% efficient PV/T roof. However, the simulation did not extend to analysing the effect of the ventilated PV/T air velocity any more than 1m/s; thus, it may be worth continuing to investigate the extended scope in order to clarify the relationship between PV/T heat collecting capacity and the further increased ventilation rate under the Scottish climate condition in depth
Measurement of the electric fluctuation spectrum of magnetohydrodynamic turbulence
Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence in the solar wind is observed to show
the spectral behavior of classical Kolmogorov fluid turbulence over an inertial
subrange and departures from this at short wavelengths, where energy should be
dissipated. Here we present the first measurements of the electric field
fluctuation spectrum over the inertial and dissipative wavenumber ranges in a
plasma. The inertial subrange is observed and
agrees strikingly with the magnetic fluctuation spectrum; the wave phase speed
in this regime is shown to be consistent with the Alfv\'en speed. At smaller
wavelengths the electric spectrum is softer and is consistent
with the expected dispersion relation of short-wavelength kinetic Alfv\'en
waves. Kinetic Alfv\'en waves damp on the solar wind ions and electrons and may
act to isotropize them. This effect may explain the fluid-like nature of the

Strengthening Pharmacovigilance System to Capture Safety Data from HIV Clients on ART in Tanzania: Identification of Gaps in Safety Reporting System
In Tanzania, pharmacovigilance system is implemented by Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) that monitors drug use countrywide. TFDA is the main national custodian for recording, analyzing and disseminating safety information that is generated through conventional health care facilities. Since the introduction of Care and Treatment Centre (CTC) in the health care system, little has been achieved on translating safety information from these facilities to the TFDA. Since the inception of national pharmacovigilance framework in 2003 there has been no systematic operational research to map the gaps in the existing pharmacovigilance system. Furthermore, it is not clear if there is adequate training and supervision. It is, therefore, important to strengthen antiretroviral therapy (ART) related adverse drug reactions (ADRs) reporting by mapping gaps in implementation of pharmacovigilance (PV) system. Information obtained will assist in addressing training needs to ensure effective reporting of ADRs through coordinated approach involving TFDA and National AIDS Control Program (NACP) in Tanzania. A cross-sectional study was conducted in four regions (Tanga, Singida, Dodoma and Mtwara) in two PV zones. Qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques with triangulation design were used. These included; desk document review of PV recording and reporting of drug safety information; in-depth interviews with various implementation stakeholders, exit interviews with patients, in-interviews with care takers and community based organizations (CBOs) involved in the provision of care and treatment of HIV/AIDS. A total of 801 respondents participated in the quantitative data component which included; 545 exit interviews to CTC clients, 177 health service providers, 62 in-depth interviews to CTC in-charges and 17 regional and district pharmacists. Ownership of these CTCs included 83.9% government, 12.9% faith based organizations and 3.2% co-owned by the government and faith based organizations. High proportions (97.2%) of the CTC health care providers had wide knowledge on ART related ADRs. However, more than half (53.4%) of the CTC service providers had not attended any training on ART related ADRs. Among the service providers, majority (67.8%) mentioned there was no guideline in place for reporting ART related ADRs. Only, 32.1% of health care providers indicated to be aware of the tool used for collection of ART related ADRs events. Of those, 37.5% mentioned that the forms were mainly obtained from district or regional pharmacists. The ADR reports were submitted to district and regional pharmacists 48.3%, TFDA 7.0%, and NACP 7.0%. Of those who indicated to have filled and submitted ADR form, only 7.4% received feedback. The proportion of ART clients who provided information was significantly different between urban and rural in Dodoma region (p=0.002). There was variation in proportions of ART clients who had mentioned seen/heard of ART related ADR by regions and difference was significant between rural and urban for all regions except Tanga (p<0.05). Majority (47.9%) of the ART clients reported ART related ADRs to the health provider for duration ranging from 3-7 days. The qualitative results revealed that that most of the guidelines from TFDA were not known and unavailable according to most of the respondents at national level (NACP), regional, district, and at health facility level. It was surprising that one of the district pharmacists interviewed was unaware of existence of guidelines in place for ADR and PV for use in the districts. It was also found that Sometimes even when available at health facilities, there was inadequate knowledge on how to fill the ADR forms according to Key Informant at national level. Moreover, several health workers admitted that that they were not reporting ADR due to a lack of forms according to some CTC in-charges interviewed. This study has shown that despite the established PV system in Tanzania, the frequency of reporting of ART related ADRs to TFDA is low. This is due to inadequate training of health care providers on ADR reporting, shortage of staff, unavailability of TFDA ADR reporting forms and lack of regular supportive supervision. Based on these results therefore we recommend TFDA should ensure that ADR reporting forms as well as guidelines are adequately supplied and utilized at CTC level NACP should ensure sharing of safety information with TFDA and recommend dedicated focal person liable for documenting and reporting ART related ADRs recorded in CTC II patient file. Regular training, supportive supervision and feedback on ART related ADR reporting system for health care providers is needed. The financial support was provided by the Global Fund Round 8. Role of the Calcium Plateau in the Neuronal Injury and Behavioral Morbidities Following Organophosphate Intoxication
Organophosphate (OP) chemicals include nerve agents and pesticides, and there is a growing concern of OP based chemical attacks against civilians. Current antidotes are essential in limiting immediate mortality associated with OP exposure. However, further research is needed to identify molecular mechanisms underlying long-term neurological deficits following survival of OP toxicity in order to develop effective therapeutics. We have developed rat survival models of OP induced status epilepticus (SE) that mimic chronic mortality and morbidity following OP intoxication. We have observed significant elevations in hippocampal calcium levels after OP SE that persisted for weeks following initial survival. Drugs inhibiting intracellular calcium-induced calcium release such as dantrolene, levetiracetam, and carisbamate lowered OP-SE mediated protracted calcium elevations. Given the critical role of calcium signaling in modulating behavior and cell-death mechanisms, drugs targeted at preventing the development of the calcium plateau could enhance neuroprotection, help reduce morbidity and improve outcome following survival of OP SE
Satisfactory safety and immunogenicity of MSP3 malaria vaccine candidate in Tanzanian children aged 12-24 months.
BACKGROUND: Development and deployment of an effective malaria vaccine would complement existing malaria control measures. A blood stage malaria vaccine candidate, Merozoite Surface Protein-3 (MSP3), produced as a long synthetic peptide, has been shown to be safe in non-immune and semi-immune adults. A phase Ib dose-escalating study was conducted to assess the vaccine's safety and immunogenicity in children aged 12 to 24 months in Korogwe, Tanzania (ClinicalTrials.gov number: NCT00469651). METHODS: This was a double-blind, randomized, controlled, dose escalation phase Ib trial, in which children were given one of two different doses of the MSP3 antigen (15 microg or 30 microg) or a control vaccine (Engerix B). Children were randomly allocated either to the MSP3 candidate malaria vaccine or the control vaccine administered at a schedule of 0, 1, and 2 months. Immunization with lower and higher doses was staggered for safety reasons starting with the lower dose. The primary endpoint was safety and reactogenicity within 28 days post-vaccination. Blood samples were obtained at different time points to measure immunological responses. Results are presented up to 84 days post-vaccination. RESULTS: A total of 45 children were enrolled, 15 in each of the two MSP3 dose groups and 15 in the Engerix B group. There were no important differences in reactogenicity between the two MSP3 groups and Engerix B. Grade 3 adverse events were infrequent; only five were detected throughout the study, all of which were transient and resolved without sequelae. No serious adverse event reported was considered to be related to MSP3 vaccine. Both MSP3 dose regimens elicited strong cytophilic IgG responses (subclasses IgG1 and IgG3), the isotypes involved in the monocyte-dependant mechanism of Plasmodium falciparum parasite-killing. The titers reached are similar to those from African adults having reached a state of premunition. Furthermore, vaccination induced seroconversion in all vaccinees. CONCLUSION: The MSP3 malaria vaccine candidate was safe, well tolerated and immunogenic in children aged 12-24 months living in a malaria endemic community. Given the vaccine's safety and its induction of cytophilic IgG responses, its efficacy against P. falciparum infection and disease needs to be evaluated in Phase 2 studies
Predicting online product sales via online reviews, sentiments, and promotion strategies
Purpose
– The purpose of this paper is to investigate if online reviews (e.g. valence and volume), online promotional strategies (e.g. free delivery and discounts) and sentiments from user reviews can help predict product sales.
Design/methodology/approach
– The authors designed a big data architecture and deployed Node.js agents for scraping the Amazon.com pages using asynchronous input/output calls. The completed web crawling and scraping data sets were then preprocessed for sentimental and neural network analysis. The neural network was employed to examine which variables in the study are important predictors of product sales.
Findings
– This study found that although online reviews, online promotional strategies and online sentiments can all predict product sales, some variables are more important predictors than others. The authors found that the interplay effects of these variables become more important variables than the individual variables themselves. For example, online volume interactions with sentiments and discounts are more important than the individual predictors of discounts, sentiments or online volume.
Originality/value
– This study designed big data architecture, in combination with sentimental and neural network analysis that can facilitate future business research for predicting product sales in an online environment. This study also employed a predictive analytic approach (e.g. neural network) to examine the variables, and this approach is useful for future data analysis in a big data environment where prediction can have more practical implications than significance testing. This study also examined the interplay between online reviews, sentiments and promotional strategies, which up to now have mostly been examined individually in previous studies
Using Community-Owned Resource Persons to Provide Early Diagnosis and Treatment and Estimate Malaria Burden at Community Level in North-Eastern Tanzania.
Although early diagnosis and prompt treatment is an important strategy for control of malaria, using fever to initiate presumptive treatment with expensive artemisinin combination therapy is a major challenge; particularly in areas with declining burden of malaria. This study was conducted using community-owned resource persons (CORPs) to provide early diagnosis and treatment of malaria, and collect data for estimation of malaria burden in four villages of Korogwe district, north-eastern Tanzania.In 2006, individuals with history of fever within 24 hours or fever (axillary temperature ≥37.5°C) at presentation were presumptively treated using sulphadoxine/pyrimethamine. Between 2007 and 2010, individuals aged five years and above, with positive rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) were treated with artemether/lumefantrine (AL) while under-fives were treated irrespective of RDT results. Reduction in anti-malarial consumption was determined by comparing the number of cases that would have been presumptively treated and those that were actually treated based on RDTs results. Trends of malaria incidence and slide positivity rates were compared between lowlands and highlands. Of 15,729 cases attended, slide positivity rate was 20.4% and declined by >72.0% from 2008, reaching <10.0% from 2009 onwards; and the slide positivity rates were similar in lowlands and highlands from 2009 onwards. Cases with fever at presentation declined slightly, but remained at >40.0% in under-fives and >20.0% among individuals aged five years and above. With use of RDTs, cases treated with AL decreased from <58.0% in 2007 to <11.0% in 2010 and the numbers of adult courses saved were 3,284 and 1,591 in lowlands and highlands respectively. Malaria incidence declined consistently from 2008 onwards; and the highest incidence of malaria shifted from children aged <10 years to individuals aged 10-19 years from 2009. With basic training, supervision and RDTs, CORPs successfully provided early diagnosis and treatment and reduced consumption of anti-malarials. Progressively declining malaria incidence and slide positivity rates suggest that all fever cases should be tested with RDTs before treatment. Data collected by CORPs was used to plan phase 1b MSP3 malaria vaccine trial and will be used for monitoring and evaluation of different health interventions. The current situation indicates that there is a remarkable changing pattern of malaria and these areas might be moving from control to pre-elimination levels
