A semidefinite relaxation procedure for fault-tolerant observer design
A fault-tolerant observer design methodology is proposed. The aim is to guarantee a minimum level of closed-loop performance under all possible sensor fault combinations while optimizing performance under the nominal, fault-free condition. A novel approach is proposed to tackle the combinatorial nature of the problem, which is computationally intractable even for a moderate number of sensors, by recasting the problem as a robust performance problem, where the uncertainty set is composed of all combinations of a set of binary variables. A procedure based on an elimination lemma and an extension of a semidefinite relaxation procedure for binary variables is then used to derive sufficient conditions (necessary and sufficient in the case of one binary variable) for the solution of the problem which significantly reduces the number of matrix inequalities needed to solve the problem. The procedure is illustrated by considering a fault-tolerant observer switching scheme in which the observer outputs track the actual sensor fault condition. A numerical example from an electric power application is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the design
Ullemar's formula for the Jacobian of the complex moment mapping
The complex moment sequence m(P) is assigned to a univalent polynomial P by
the Cauchy transform of the P(D), where D is the unit disk. We establish the
representation of the Jacobian det dm(P) in terms of roots of the derivative
P'. Combining this result with the special decomposition for the Hurwitz
determinants, we prove a formula for the Jacobian which was previously
conjectured by C. Ullemar. As a consequence, we show that the boundary of the
class of all locally univalent polynomials in is contained in the union of

Correspondence Between Urban Bird Roosts and the Presence of Aerosolised Fungal Pathogens
© 2016, Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht. Habitat fragmentation in urban environments concentrates bird populations that have managed to adapt to these newly developed areas. Consequently, the roosts of these birds are potentially creating environments conducive to fungal growth and dissemination. Airborne fungi derived from these environments are relatively unstudied, as is the potential health risk arising from these fungi. This study documented the diversity of culturable airborne fungal propagules associated with forty urban bird roosts. Environmental variables from each site were recorded to allow us to analyse the correspondence between different bird species, the substrate they occupy and airborne fungal propagules. Associations were established between Rhodotorula and Pacific black ducks, wood ducks, myna birds and miner birds when in the presence of bare soil as a substrate. Further associations were established between Penicillium, Scopulariopsis and Cunninghamella and pigeons, sparrows and swallows living in areas with hard surfaces such as bitumen and rocks

The objective of this study is to examine the influence of organizational culture on individual performance with accounting information system application as intervening variable. This study uses primary data obtained through the distribution of questionnaires to respondents, who are employees working on the clothing distribution store or outlet (Distro) in the Mataram city. The sample of this study consisted of 102 respondents, which is determined based on purposive sampling method. The results of this study indicate that organizational culture has a significant and positive influence on individual performance. Organizational culture also has a significant and positive influence on accounting information system application. However, the application of accounting information system as intervening variable has no influence on individual performance. Likewise the study also found that application of accounting information systems has no indirect influence of organizational culture on the performance of individuals. Businessmen who apply accounting information system in the form of application of accounting software especially on the distrocould use the result of this research, as well as employees as the user of the accounting software in order to understand in advance the steps to apply it thoroughly
Dynamical age differences among coeval star clusters as revealed by blue stragglers
Globular star clusters that formed at the same cosmic time may have evolved
rather differently from a dynamical point of view (because that evolution
depends on the internal environment) through a variety of processes that tend
progressively to segregate stars more massive than the average towards the
cluster centre. Therefore clusters with the same chronological age may have
reached quite different stages of their dynamical history (that is, they may
have different dynamical ages). Blue straggler stars have masses greater than
those at the turn-off point on the main sequence and therefore must be the
result of either a collision or a mass-transfer event. Because they are among
the most massive and luminous objects in old clusters, they can be used as test
particles with which to probe dynamical evolution. Here we report that globular
clusters can be grouped into a few distinct families on the basis of the radial
distribution of blue stragglers. This grouping corresponds well to an effective
ranking of the dynamical stage reached by stellar systems, thereby permitting a

Exposure to Endocrine Disruptors and Nuclear Receptors Gene Expression in Infertile and Fertile Men from Italian Areas with Different Environmental Features
Internal levels of selected endocrine disruptors (EDs) (i.e., perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), di-2-ethylhexyl-phthalate (DEHP), mono-(2-ethylhexyl)-phthalate (MEHP), and bisphenol A (BPA)) were analyzed in blood/serum of infertile and fertile men from metropolitan, urban and rural Italian areas. PFOS and PFOA levels were also evaluated in seminal plasma. In peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of same subjects, gene expression levels of a panel of nuclear receptors (NRs), namely estrogen receptor α (ERα) estrogen receptor β (ERβ), androgen receptor (AR), aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) and pregnane X receptor (PXR) were also assessed. Infertile men from the metropolitan area had significantly higher levels of BPA and gene expression of all NRs, except PPARγ, compared to subjects from other areas. Subjects from urban areas had significantly higher levels of MEHP, whereas subjects from rural area had higher levels of PFOA in both blood and seminal plasma. Interestingly, ERα, ERβ, AR, PXR and AhR expression is directly correlated with BPA and inversely correlated with PFOA serum levels. Our study indicates the relevance of the living environment when investigating the exposure to specific EDs. Moreover, the NRs panel in PBMCs demonstrated to be a potential biomarker of effect to assess the EDs impact on reproductive health
Trapping of a random walk by diffusing traps
We present a systematic analytical approach to the trapping of a random walk
by a finite density rho of diffusing traps in arbitrary dimension d. We confirm
the phenomenologically predicted e^{-c_d rho t^{d/2}} time decay of the
survival probability, and compute the dimension dependent constant c_d to

Global behavior of cosmological dynamics with interacting Veneziano ghost
In this paper, we shall study the dynamical behavior of the universe
accelerated by the so called Veneziano ghost dark energy component locally and
globally by using the linearization and nullcline method developed in this
paper. The energy density is generalized to be proportional to the Hawking
temperature defined on the trapping horizon instead of Hubble horizon of the
Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. We also give a prediction of the
fate of the universe and present the bifurcation phenomenon of the dynamical
system of the universe. It seems that the universe could be dominated by dark

ROSAT HRI Observations of the Crab Pulsar: An Improved Temperature upper limit for PSR 0531+21
ROSAT HRI observations have been used to determine an upper limit of the Crab
pulsar surface temperature from the off-pulse count rate. For a neutron star
mass of 1.4 \Mo and a radius of 10 km as well as the standard distance and
interstellar column density, the redshifted temperature upper limit is\/
K . This is the lowest temperature
upper limit obtained for the Crab pulsar so far. Slightly different values for
are computed for the various neutron star models available in the
