Supporting process reuse in PROMENADE
Process reuse (the ability to construct new processes by assembling already built ones) and process harvesting (the ability to build generic processes
that may be further reused, from existing ones) are two crucial issues in
process technology. Both activities involve defining a set of mechanisms,
like abstraction, adaptation, composition, etc. which are appropriate to
achieve their goals. In this report, we define a general framework to
process reuse and harvesting that proposes a complete set of mechanisms to
deal with both activities. This general framework is particularized to the
context of a process modelling language to model software processes, called
PROMENADE. A definition of the identified reuse and harvesting mecha-nisms
is proposed in the context of PROMENADE. Finally, two process reuse case
studies which composes various reuse mechanisms are presented.Postprint (published version
Risk assessment in open source systems
Adopting Open Source Software (OSS) components offers many advantages to organizations but also introduces risks related to the intrinsic fluidity of the OSS development projects. Choosing the right components is a critical decision, as it could contribute to the success of any adoption process. Making the right decision requires to evaluate the technical capabilities of the components and also related strategic aspects, including possible impacts on high level objectives. This can be achieved through a portfolio of risk assessment and mitigation methods. In this briefing we introduce the basic concepts related to OSS ecosystems and to risk representation and reasoning. We illustrate how risk management activities in OSS can benefit from the large amount of data available from OSS repositories and how they can be connected to business goals for strategic decision-making. REDEPEND-REACT: an architecture analysis tool
The i* approach includes the construction of strategic dependency models (SD) developed to model information systems that can be applied in a wide variety of contexts. We are interested in the formulation of metrics over i* models to be used in components system architectures analysis. These metrics are defined to analyse the models with respect to some properties that are interesting for the system being modelled, such as security, efficiency or accuracy. Metrics are defined in terms of the actors and dependencies of the models and the results of their evaluation are used to inform multiple component selection. As the definition and evaluation of the property metrics are cumbersome activities, the need of tool support arises. Requirements for a Nutrition Education Demonstrator
[Context and Motivation] Development of innovative ICT-based applications is a complex process involving collaboration of all relevant disciplines. This complexity arises due to differences in terminology, knowledge and often also the ways of working between developers in the disciplines involved. [Question/problem] Advances in each discipline bring a rich design environment of theories, models, methods and techniques. Making a selection from these makes the development of distributed applications very challenging, often requiring a holistic approach to address the needs of the disciplines involved. This paper describes early stage requirements acquisition of a mobile nutrition education demonstrator which supports overweight persons in adopting healthier dietary behaviour. [Principal idea/results] We present a novel way to combine and use known requirements acquisition methods involving a two stage user needs analysis based on scenarios which apply a theory-based model of behavioural change and are onstructed in two phases. The first phase scenarios specify an indicative description reflecting the use of the transtheoretical model of behavioural change. In the second phase, a handshake protocol adds elements of optative system-oriented descriptions to the scenarios such that the intended system can support the indicative description. [Contribution] The holistic and phased approach separates design concerns to which each of the disciplines contributes with their own expertise and domain principles. Extracting H flux from photometric data in the J-PLUS survey
We present the main steps that will be taken to extract H emission
flux from Javalambre Photometric Local Universe Survey (J-PLUS) photometric
data. For galaxies with , the H+[NII] emission is
covered by the J-PLUS narrow-band filter . We explore three different
methods to extract the H + [NII] flux from J-PLUS photometric data: a
combination of a broad-band and a narrow-band filter ( and ), two
broad-band and a narrow-band one (, and ), and a SED-fitting
based method using 8 photometric points. To test these methodologies, we
simulated J-PLUS data from a sample of 7511 SDSS spectra with measured
H flux. Based on the same sample, we derive two empirical relations to
correct the derived H+[NII] flux from dust extinction and [NII]
contamination. We find that the only unbiased method is the SED fitting based
one. The combination of two filters underestimates the measurements of the
H + [NII] flux by a 28%, while the three filters method by a 9%. We
study the error budget of the SED-fitting based method and find that, in
addition to the photometric error, our measurements have a systematic
uncertainty of a 4.3%. Several sources contribute to this uncertainty:
differences between our measurement procedure and the one used to derive the
spectroscopic values, the use of simple stellar populations as templates, and
the intrinsic errors of the spectra, which were not taken into account. Apart
from that, the empirical corrections for dust extinction and [NII]
contamination add an extra uncertainty of 14%. Given the J-PLUS photometric
system, the best methodology to extract H + [NII] flux is the
SED-fitting based one. Using this method, we are able to recover reliable
H fluxes for thousands of nearby galaxies in a robust and homogeneous
