A method is disclosed for determining the volume of compressible gas in a system including incompressible substances in a zero-gravity environment consisting of measuring the change in pressure (delta P) for a known volume change rate (delta V/delta t) in the polytrophic region between isothermal and adiabatic conditions. The measurements are utilized in an idealized formula for determining the change in isothermal pressure (delta P sub iso) for the gas. From the isothermal pressure change (delta iso) the gas volume is obtained. The method is also applicable to determination of gas volume by utilizing work (W) in the compression process. In a passive system, the relationship of specific densities can be obtained

Consumers' Perceptions of Animal-Based Food Products and Advertisements

Grocery sales circulars influence consumers’ purchasing decision, but limited research has been conducted on them. The purpose of this study was to discover current advertisement trends for animal-based food products then describe and compare the purchasing behaviors of consumers with their personal and environmental determinants. By identifying consumers’ perceptions of animal-based food products and advertisements, consumer-based product development and promotion can be more efficient. First, a quantitative content analysis was performed to quantitatively observe the elements of animal-based food product advertisements in grocery circulars. Second, a questionnaire was distributed in several states in the Western United States to collect data on consumers’ demographics, purchasing behaviors, and reactions to frequently used advertisement elements for animal-based food products. Parallel to the quantitative questionnaire, qualitative interviews were conducted with consumers to supplement the quantitative study with thick-rich descriptions of consumers’ purchasing behaviors and reaction to terms found frequently in advertisements. Quantitative results indicated pork products were advertised most frequently, followed by beef, chicken, turkey, seafood, and lamb products. The majority of animal-based food product advertisements was one-eighth of a page or less with a visual and displayed the brand name and price for the product. Significant differences were found for the purchase of lamb products by consumers’ race, grocery shopping frequency, and area of residence. The purchase of beef, chicken, fish, and lamb products differed by consumer income levels. Advertisements containing cooked animal-based food products had greater appeal to consumers than ones containing raw animal-based food products. The influence of modifying terms including “Gluten Free” and “No Added Hormones” in advertisements differed across generations and income levels. Qualitative results indicated cues of convenience, health, price, and quality influence where consumers shop and what products they purchase. In addition, terms used in animal-based food advertisements equated positive, negative, and skeptical responses from consumers. This study can guide the creation of grocery sales circular advertisements for animal-based food products, but more research is needed to better understand the appeal of products and consumers’ interpretation of advertisement terms

Trade Policy towards the NICs — Options for the EEC

SUMMARY From 1976–78 there was an upsurge in protectionism directed substantially at the NICs. This reached a plateau but may now be on the rise again, although arguments about protectionism have shifted somewhat to trade between the advanced industrial countries (AlCs). Despite the general trend, there is still a legacy of modest liberalisation from the Tokyo Round. Moreover, the popular picture of the NICs as a homogeneous group of countries all heading for Japanese?style miracles has been undermined by the near?collapse of the Eastern European NICs, and the indebtedness problems of Latin American NICs. Nonetheless, the NICs' response to their current problems may lead to a resurgence of competitiveness, so that the late 1980s will see the NICs becoming more open and competitive and more Ides becoming NICs. How should the AlCs respond? Use of the Cambridge Group Model provides some insights into the effects of selective protection on the UK economy: gains to one industry are offset by losses to other sectors. Yet, AlCs continue to respond to domestic protectionist pressure in the context of current trade issues. Given that global solutions are unlikely in the near future, there may be more scope for regional solutions favoured by the EEC. But these are essentially anachronistic in the long run. Opciones de la CEE Desde 1976 a 1978 se produjo un aumento del proteccionismo, dirigido sustancialmente a los países de industrialización reciente (PIR), el que alcanzó un máximo, pero puede estar nuevamente en ascenso, aunque los argumentos sobre aquél se hayan modificado, en alguna medida, hacia los países de industrialización avanzada (PIA). Pese a la tendencia general, aún persiste un legado de modesta liberalización de la Reunion de Tokio. Mas aún, el cuadro popular de los PIR, como grupo homogéneo de países en pos del milagro estilo japonés, ha sido socavado por el cuasi colapso de los PIR del este europeo y los problemas de endeudamiento de los análogos latinoamericanos. No obstante, la respuesta de los PIR a sus actuales problemas, puede conducir a un resurgimiento de la competencia, de modo que el final de la década de 1980 podría ver PIR transformándose en más abiertos y competitivos y más países subdesarrollados convirtiéndose en PIR. ¿Cómo deberían responder los PIA? El uso del modelo del grupo de Cambridge, proporciona algunas ideas sobre los efectos de la protección selectiva en la economía del Reino Unido: los beneficios de una industria son contrarrestados por las pérdidas de otros sectores. Cette poussée s'est stabilisée mais peut maintenant reprendre, bien que les discussions concernant le protectionnisme soient devenues en quelque sorte un commerce entre les pays industriels avancés (PIA). Malgré la tendance générale, il y a encore un reste de libéralisation modeste du Cercle de Tokyo. De plus, l'image populaire des PNI comme un groupe homogène de pays se dirigeant tous vers un miracle de style japonais a été sapée par le quasi?effondrement des PNI de l'Europe de l'Est, et par les problèmes de dettes des PNI d'Amérique latine. Néanmoins, la réponse des PNI à leurs problèmes actuels peut entraîner une résurgence de l'esprit de compétition, ce qui verrait vers la fin des années 80 les PNI devenir plus ouverts et compétitifs et plus de PMD devenir des PNI. Comment devraient réagir les PIA? L'utilisation du Modèle de Groupe de Cambridge apporte quelques éclaircissements sur les effets qu'une protection sélective a sur l'économie du RU: les gains d'une industrie sont contrebalancés par les pertes d'autres secteurs. Cependant les PIA continuent de réagir à la pression protectionniste intérieure dans le contexte des problèmes commerciaux actuels. Etant donné que des solutions globales sont improbables dans un futur proche, il y aurait plus de possibilités pour les solutions régionales approuvées par la CEE. Co-location as a catalyst for service innovation : a study of Scottish health and social care

Academic literature and policy on co-location of local public services focus on the cost benefits. Other benefits and outcomes of co-location, including service innovations benefiting users, are under-conceptualized. This paper suggests a framework for evaluating co-location as a learning environment for innovation, drawing on new case studies of five Community Health Partnerships in Scotland charged with more closely coordinating health and social care. We conclude that partnerships using co-location are benefiting from additional service innovations

Evaluación de la vulnerabilidad sísmica del barrio Acovichay, distrito de Independencia, provincia Huaraz, Ancash

La investigación estuvo orientada a la evaluación de la vulnerabilidad sísmica, del barrio Acovichay, Distrito de independencia, Provincia del Huaraz, Departamento de Ancash, con la finalidad de mejorar la seguridad de los habitantes, teniendo en consideración las características que presenta la localidad. Se realizó un croquis de la distribución de las casas, para tener conocimiento el número de lotes y habitantes los cuales serán beneficiados evaluando la ubicación del acuerdo al reglamento nacional de edificaciones, los materiales empleados en la construcción y el proceso constructivos. Se efectuó estudio topográfico y evaluación visual de la forma como están construidas las viviendas, para determinar las características del terreno requiriendo instrumentos topográficos y formatos para la toma de datos del proceso constructivo de las viviendas para la obtención de los resultados. La presente investigación concluye en que las viviendas que se tiene en el barrio Acovichay no son las adecuadas, generando un peligro en riesgo sísmico para los habitantes, toda vez que la construcción de las viviendas son con materiales artesanales, a la vez no se ha respetado la distribución arquitectónica, la dosificación de los materiales, la distribución de los aceros en columnas, vigas y losas aligeradas, concluyendo que el sector presenta alta vulnerabilidad sísmica por concepto de fallas estructurales constructivas de las viviendas

Early childhood pedagogies: spaces for young children to flourish

This paper introduces the Special Issue of Early Child Development and Care focused on Early Childhood Pedagogy. It opens by considering past and present discourses concerning early childhood pedagogy, and focus is given to established philosophical underpinnings in the field and their translation to contemporary guidance, alongside research and policy. It is argued that early childhood pedagogy is a contested, complex and diverse space, yet these factors are entirely appropriate for supporting young children to flourish as valued individuals in different contexts. Building on this argument, it is posited that it may be more appropriate to discuss early childhood pedagogies rather than early childhood pedagogy. The paper goes on to critique a range of established early childhood pedagogies, before introducing 18 papers from across the world that make exciting new contributions to the discourse. It is intended that this collection will inspire new debates and fresh endeavours concerning early childhood pedagogies

Es oportuno mencionar que el mejoramiento de esta infraestructura vial en de necesidad publica para los ciudadanos de esta parte importante de nuestro territorio. Por lo que Nosotros (Nemesio Conde Barrientos y Froebel Terencio Cueva Gamarra), autores del presente trabajo de investigación, y siendo requisito indispensable e ineludible en nuestra carrera profesional, nos hemos trazado esta importante meta. Por lo que; con esmero, ahínco y mucha dedicación que merece su enfoque y adecuando a los requerimientos técnicos de una obra, desarrollamos el presente trabajo en la que incluimos diversas especialidades implementadas como la topografía, mecánicas de suelos, obras de arte y puentes, hidrología, drenajes, pavimentos, caminos, ingeniería gráfica, y utilización de equipos y materiales de última generación y software de aplicación diversa. El producto del presente trabajo ponemos al alcance de la sociedad, mediante sus autoridades con el fin de aportar los conocimientos adquiridos en este largo camino de formación profesional, para dotar de una infraestructura adecuada siempre y cuando se adecue al proyecto el mismo que requerirá posiblemente el saneamiento de predios particulares para su adecuación a la normativa vigente. Y posteriormente esto facilitará la adecuación de pavimentos flexibles cumpliendo con los parámetros de diseño propuesto. El presente desarrollo de investigación, pretende determinar los criterios estructurales según Normas y metodologías establecidas para diseñar la estructura de un pavimento flexible y así lograr un eficiente nivel de transitabilidad mejorando las condiciones de vida de la población en toda la zona de influencia

Babies and toddlers outdoors: a narrative review of the literature on provision for under twos in ECEC settings

This paper reports the findings of a narrative review of international research literature about babies’ and toddlers’ engagement with the outdoor environment whilst attending ECEC (Early Childhood Education and Care) settings. Based on the in-depth review of 21 papers, it identifies four dominant themes in the literature: the outdoors as a space to be physically active, the outdoors as a risky space, the challenge of creating an appropriate outdoor environment and the significance of the practitioner outdoors. The article argues that there is a need to re-conceive the ways in which the youngest children engage with the outdoors and to move beyond possible narratives of exclusion
