Radiation-induced growth and isothermal decay of infrared-stimulated luminescence from feldspar

Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) ages can determine a wide range of geological events or processes, such as the timing of sediment deposition, the exposure duration of a rock surface, or the cooling rate of bedrock. The accuracy of OSL dating critically depends on our capability to describe the growth and decay of laboratory-regenerated luminescence signals. Here we review a selection of common models describing the response of infrared stimulated luminescence (IRSL) of feldspar to constant radiation and temperature as administered in the laboratory. We use this opportunity to introduce a general-order kinetic model that successfully captures the behaviour of different materials and experimental conditions with a minimum of model parameters, and thus appears suitable for future application and validation in natural environments. Finally, we evaluate all the presented models by their ability to accurately describe a recently published feldspar multi-elevated temperature post-IR IRSL (MET-pIRIR) dataset, and highlight each model's strengths and shortfalls

: This aims of this study are determining the commodity of medicinal plants base and non-base in Pacitan Regency with LQ (Location Quotient) analysis and formulating alternative and priorities development strategies of medicinal plants base commodity in Pacitan Regency with AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) analysis. Location were selected in Pacitan Regency as one potential area ofmedicinal plants commodity development. This study was using descriptive method. The data collections were using primary and secondary data. The data were analyzed by LQ and AHP. The study shown that medicinal plants commodity with value of LQ base for 3 consecutive years in 2011-2013 amounted to 1,545; 1,329 and 1,099 in Pacitan Regency is ginger commodity. AHP analysis formulating alternative and priorities development strategies of ginger commodity in Pacitan Regency through five criteria: production, capital, technology, price and market linkages. Alternative and priorities development strategies of ginger commodity in Pacitan Regency are 1) procuring and improving of capital aid that right on target and support appropriate technologies with a priority value of 0,33; 2) increasing availability of adequate market information with a priority value of 0,27;3) increasing ginger commodity processing skills and expanding market of ginger products processed with a priority value of 0,22; 4) improving quality of ginger harvest through the seeds certification process that evenly distributed throughout ginger producers region with a priority value of 0,20

Fixed dose combinations- to prescribe or not to prescribe: a dilemma of medical profession

Background: Fixed dose combinations (FDCs) refer to products containing two or more ingredients used for a particular indication in a single dosage form. Prescribing FDCs has become a routine affair in medical practice. There has been increase in the irrational FDCs in the recent past by leaps and bounds. The pharmaceutical companies are luring the physicians to prescribe their products even when they are not needed by the patients. The Indian laws too are not properly defined to grant marketing approvals of FDCs. Hence the rationality of a FDC has become one of the most controversial and debatable issues in general practice. Methods: We hence decided to analyze the existing FDCs in Indian market and study their rationality. Results: We observed that, although many brands of FDCs available are essentially rational as per WHO and Indian essential drugs lists, the irrational FDCs easily outnumber the rational ones. Hundreds of rational FDCs are also available which are not included in WHO or Indian essential drugs lists. A few FDCs with incorrect doses were also noted. Irrational FDCs not only cause more adverse drug reactions but the antibiotic FDCs are responsible for increasing the chances of resistance. A few of these are discussed for their irrationality. Conclusions: It is the need of the hour to raise our voice against the growing list of irrational FDCs and try to reduce the magnitude of this problem by sensitizing the undergraduates, the interns as well as the practitioners regarding their efficacy, safety, suitability, rationality and cost benefit
