    Status of the SuperB project

    The SuperB project is a very ambitious program whose goal is to build, in the immediate vicinity of the Frascati National Laboratory, an e+e− collider operating in the Υ(4S) region with a luminosity in excess of 1036 Hz/cm−2, surpassing by two orders of magnitude the present generation. Such a progress has ben made possible by the new Crab Waist colliding scheme together with the design of very low emittance rings. The physics goal of this machine is to determine the structure of the new physics (NP) at the Terascale that is likely to show up at the LHC. This will be possible through a very detailed scrutiny of all NP induced indirect effects in rare (or even forbidden in the Standard Model) decays and precision measurements in the quark and lepton sectors. The project, an official element of the European HEP Strategy, has been recently approved and fully funded by the Italian government. The Nicola Cabibbo Laboratory will be created as a consortium to host and manage the project. The site has been selected and the detector collaboration is currently being formed. The first beams are expected in 2016, with a yearly integrated luminosity of 15 ab−1

    Immunoblot analysis of the seroreactivity to recombinant Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato antigens, including VlsE, in the long-term course of treated patients with Erythema migrans

    Objective: We evaluated whether immunoblotting is capable of substantiating the posttreatment clinical assessment of patients with erythema migrans ( EM), the hallmark of early Lyme borreliosis. Methods: In 50 patients, seroreactivity to different antigens of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato was analyzed by a recombinant immunoblot test (IB) in consecutive serum samples from a minimum follow-up period of 1 year. Antigens in the IgG test were decorin- binding protein A, internal fragment of p41 (p41i), outer surface protein C (OspC), p39, variable major protein-like sequence expressed (VlsE), p58 and p100; those in the IgM test were p41i, OspC and p39. Immune responses were correlated with clinical and treatment-related parameters. Results: Positive IB results were found in 50% before, in 57% directly after therapy and in 44% by the end of the follow-up for the IgG class, and in 36, 43 and 12% for the IgM class. In acute and convalescence phase sera, VlsE was most immunogenic on IgG testing 60 and 70%), and p41i (46 and 57%) and OspC (40 and 57%) for the IgM class. By the end of the follow-up, only the anti-p41i lgM response was significantly decreased to 24%. Conclusions: No correlation was found between IB results and treatment-related parameters.     Closing the Light Gluino Window in Supersymmetric Grand Unified Models

    We study the light gluino scenario giving special attention to constraints from the masses of the light CP-even neutral Higgs mhm_h, the lightest chargino mχ1±m_{\chi^{\pm}_1}, and the second lightest neutralino mχ20m_{\chi^0_2}, and from the bsγb\rightarrow s\gamma decay. We find that minimal N=1N=1 supergravity, with a radiatively broken electroweak symmetry group and universality of scalar and gaugino masses at the unification scale, is incompatible with the existence of a light gluino.Comment: 12 pages (plain tex), 1 figure not included, VAND-TH-94-7-R.     Measurement of Branching Fractions and Rate Asymmetries in the Rare Decays B -> K(*) l+ l-

    In a sample of 471 million BB events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider we study the rare decays B -> K(*) l+ l-, where l+ l- is either e+e- or mu+mu-. We report results on partial branching fractions and isospin asymmetries in seven bins of di-lepton mass-squared. We further present CP and lepton-flavor asymmetries for di-lepton masses below and above the J/psi resonance. We find no evidence for CP or lepton-flavor violation. The partial branching fractions and isospin asymmetries are consistent with the Standard Model predictions and with results from other experiments.Comment: 16 pages, 14 figures, accepted by Phys.     Improved Limits on B0B^{0} decays to invisible (+γ)(+\gamma) final states

    We establish improved upper limits on branching fractions for B0 decays to final States 10 where the decay products are purely invisible (i.e., no observable final state particles) and for final states where the only visible product is a photon. Within the Standard Model, these decays have branching fractions that are below the current experimental sensitivity, but various models of physics beyond the Standard Model predict significant contributions for these channels. Using 471 million BB pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, we establish upper limits at the 90% confidence level of 2.4x10^-5 for the branching fraction of B0-->Invisible and 1.7x10^-5 for the branching fraction of B0-->Invisible+gammaComment: 8 pages, 3 postscript figures, submitted to Phys.     Search for lepton-number violating processes in B+ -> h- l+ l+ decays

    We have searched for the lepton-number violating processes B+ -> h- l+ l+ with h- = K-/pi- and l+ = e+/mu+, using a sample of 471+/-3 million BBbar events collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.
