    Soliton solutions, Liouville integrability and gauge equivalence of Sasa Satsuma equation

    Exact integrability of the Sasa Satsuma eqation (SSE) in the Liouville sense is established by showing the existence of an infinite set of conservation laws. The explicit form of the conserved quantities in term of the fields are obtained by solving the Riccati equation for the associated 3x3 Lax operator. The soliton solutions in particular, one and two soliton solutions, are constructed by the Hirota's bilinear method. The one soliton solutions is also compared with that found through the inverse scattering method.     Characterizations of regular local rings via syzygy modules of the residue field

    Let RR be a commutative Noetherian local ring with residue field kk. We show that if a finite direct sum of syzygy modules of kk surjects onto `a semidualizing module' or `a non-zero maximal Cohen-Macaulay module of finite injective dimension', then RR is regular. We also prove that RR is regular if and only if some syzygy module of kk has a non-zero direct summand of finite injective dimension.Comment: 7 page

    Learning Cross-Modal Deep Embeddings for Multi-Object Image Retrieval using Text and Sketch

    In this work we introduce a cross modal image retrieval system that allows both text and sketch as input modalities for the query. A cross-modal deep network architecture is formulated to jointly model the sketch and text input modalities as well as the the image output modality, learning a common embedding between text and images and between sketches and images. In addition, an attention model is used to selectively focus the attention on the different objects of the image, allowing for retrieval with multiple objects in the query. Experiments show that the proposed method performs the best in both single and multiple object image retrieval in standard datasets.Comment: Accepted at ICPR 201

    A comparative study of drug prescribing indicators in various hospitals of West Bengal, India

    Background: Rational use of drugs is essential to ensure safety and welfare of patients. Thus, prescription audits are conducted to monitor the practice of writing prescriptions. Various standard parameters have been rationalized by World Health Organization (WHO) in order to regulate drug utilization, globally. Present study aimed to compare the pattern of prescriptions generated in different healthcare centres of West Bengal.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the inpatient and outpatient departments of RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata, in order to evaluate the prescriptions. Literature was also surveyed with the keywords “prescription audit”, “West Bengal”, to extract data on prescription audits conducted in various other hospitals of West Bengal. The WHO prescribing indicators of all these health facilities were then compared to estimate the rationality of drug prescribed by different physicians.Results: Seven published reports of prescription audits were published from the period of 2013 to 2017, the distribution being- 2 health facilities from Kolkata, 2 from Burdwan, 1 each from Bankura, Murshidabad and North Bengal. WHO standards were not strictly followed by any of the hospitals. Polypharmacy level were higher in all the hospitals. Drugs were mostly prescribed from the essential medicine list (EML).Conclusions: Present study clearly indicated that it is essential to improve these parameters for most of the healthcare centres in order to prevent irrational use of drugs. Prescription audits should also be implemented regularly so that the patients can receive better treatment at minimum cost with suitable rational therapy

    Changing trends of maternal mortality with its causes- ten years retrospective study in a peripheral medical college of West Bengal, India

    Background: The estimates of maternal mortality can only be used as a rough indicator of maternal health situation in any given country. High maternal mortality reflects not only in inadequacy of health care services for mothers, but also a low standard of living and socio economic status of the community. Objective was to assess the maternal mortality ratio (MMR), its probable causes and changing trends.Methods: The present study conducted at Midnapore Medical College (MMC), West Bengal. Data for analysis were collected from medical college record section and maternal death registrar book after having permission from higher authority of the college during the period from January 2009 to 2018 December. Total sample size for this period was 249. Statistical analysis was done through SPSS software.Results: Ten years data analysis of 249 subjects showed that total live births from January 2009 to December 2018 was 1,39,126 with MMR 178.97%. Hypertensive disorder of pregnancy (40.56%) was the leading direct cause of maternal death followed by hemorrhage (24.49%) and septicemia (10.84%). Heart disease (6.42%) was the major indirect cause of death followed by anemia (3.6%). Maternal death rate found high among primi gravida (59.43%) mothers and within 20 years age group (46.18%).Conclusions: Most maternal deaths are preventable by proper antenatal care, early diagnosis of high risk factors, timely referral to tertiary care centre along with community upliftment especially in rural and tribal based population.

    Performance Measures in Acousto-optic Chaotic Signal Encryption System Subject to Parametric Variations and Additive Noise

    Signal encryption and recovery using chaotic optical waves has been a subject of active research in the past 10 years. Since an acousto-optic Bragg cell with zeroth- and first-order feedback exhibits chaotic behavior past the threshold for bistability, such a system was recently examined for possible chaotic encryption using a low-amplitude sinusoidal signal applied via the bias input of the sound cell driver. Subsequent recovery of the message signal was carried out via a heterodyne strategy employing a locally generated chaotic carrier, with threshold parameters matched to the transmitting Bragg cell. The simulation results, though encouraging, were limited to relatively low chaos frequencies and sinusoidal message signals only. In this paper, we extend the previous work by (i) increasing the chaos frequency using appropriate parameter control; (ii) carefully examining the system sensitivity to three system parameters, viz., feedback delay, feedback gain, and dc bias level; (iii) examine signal recoverability relative to shifts in the three parameters mentioned above relative to the transmitter; and (iv) determining the robustness of such a system relative to the primary transmitter parameters. Additionally, we consider the effect of the additive bandpass noise (obtained from white Gaussian noise in the simulator) on signal recovery in such a system from a performance standpoint. It is also conjectured that signal recovery can be effected by passing the modulated light through a second sound cell in a matched chaotic regime. This aspect is also under investigation

    Exploring Social Media Chatter during a Rumoring Phenomenon

    Online rumors are unverified messages that spread on the Internet. Despite the lack of evidence, such messages spread rapidly as digital wildfires, and even some are reported on news outlets. When rumors receive significant social support and eventually turn out to be false, the consequences would be dire. Given that social media facilitate users to react to and to discuss, it is important to explore the discussions factors associated with rumoring phenomena. Hence, the aim of this paper is to identify discussion factors in a rumoring phenomenon on social media. Tweets were collected to capture the messages related to the rumoring phenomenon. A total of 1,070 tweets were admitted for the purpose of qualitative content analysis. This paper extends news value theory in the context of online rumoring. Discussion factors such as rumor acceptance, rumor refutation, aggression, facticity and uncertainty stimulated discussions among the members of the online community

    Comparison of transvaginal sacrospinous ligament fixation with abdominal sacrocolpopexy in treatment of post-hysterectomy vault prolapse-a prospective randomized study

    Background: Vaginal vault prolapse is a common condition following abdominal or vaginal hysterectomy causing negative impact on women’s quality of life. The study compares the efficacy of abdominal and vaginal route surgery in correcting post-hysterectomy vault prolapse by postoperative assessment and at least twelve months follow up.Methods: A prospective comparative study among post-hysterectomy patients attending the GOPD of Midnapore Medical College diagnosed as vaginal vault prolapse at least stage2 between January 2013 to December 2019. The study population included 31 women divided into two groups-group A included 16 women underwent unilateral sacrospinous ligament fixation (SSF) and group B included 15 women underwent abdominal sacrocolpopexy (ASC).Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of mean age, mean weight, mean parity and BMI, hence both groups are comparable. The mean operating time was 117±19.68 min in ASC group and 83.25±11.28 min in SSF group (p<0.005); significant mean blood loss was reported in ASC group (373±97.79 ml in ASC group versus 193.125±98.97 ml in SSF group, p<0.005), more hospital stays in ASC group (p<0.005) and more post operative complications in ASC group than SSF group. At follow up, the mean vaginal length showed significantly longer for ASC group than that of SSF group (p<0.005).Conclusions: ASC and SSF, both techniques are effective in management of vault prolapse in hands of an expert though recovery time is much quicker in SSF group.
