What does monogamy in higher powers of a correlation measure mean?
We examine here the proposition that all multiparty quantum states can be
made monogamous by considering positive integral powers of any quantum
correlation measure. With Rajagopal-Rendell quantum deficit as the measure of
quantum correlations for symmetric 3-qubit pure states, we illustrate that
monogamy inequality is satisfied for higher powers of quantum deficit. We
discuss the drawbacks of this inequality in quantification of correlations in
the state. We also prove a monogamy inequality in higher powers of classical
mutual information and bring out the fact that such inequality need not
necessarily imply restricted shareability of correlations. We thus disprove the
utility of higher powers of any correlation measure in establishing monogamous
nature in multiparty quantum states.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, 1 table; comments welcom
Comparison Of Modified Dual Ternary Indexing And Multi-Key Hashing Algorithms For Music Information Retrieval
In this work we have compared two indexing algorithms that have been used to
index and retrieve Carnatic music songs. We have compared a modified algorithm
of the Dual ternary indexing algorithm for music indexing and retrieval with
the multi-key hashing indexing algorithm proposed by us. The modification in
the dual ternary algorithm was essential to handle variable length query phrase
and to accommodate features specific to Carnatic music. The dual ternary
indexing algorithm is adapted for Carnatic music by segmenting using the
segmentation technique for Carnatic music. The dual ternary algorithm is
compared with the multi-key hashing algorithm designed by us for indexing and
retrieval in which features like MFCC, spectral flux, melody string and
spectral centroid are used as features for indexing data into a hash table. The
way in which collision resolution was handled by this hash table is different
than the normal hash table approaches. It was observed that multi-key hashing
based retrieval had a lesser time complexity than dual-ternary based indexing
The algorithms were also compared for their precision and recall in which
multi-key hashing had a better recall than modified dual ternary indexing for
the sample data considered.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure

Unusual catch rates of cuttlefish in a multiday trawler
Cuttlefish is one of the commercially important
group of cephalopods caught by multi-night trawlers
along the coast of Karnataka. The catch rate of
cuttlefish in multiday trawlers varies from <5 kg/haul
during December-April period to 50-300 kg/haul
during the peak fishing season in August-
September
Three-dimensional Ising critical behavior in R0.6Sr0.4MnO3(R=Pr,Nd) manganites
Magnetic as well as calorimetric measurements have been performed on single crystal samples of Pr0.6Sr0.4MnO3 and Nd0.6Sr0.4MnO3 to develop a complete critical behavior study of the paramagnetic to ferromagnetic transition in both manganites. The critical exponents α,β,γ , and δ have been independently obtained. For Pr0.6Sr0.4MnO3, these are α = 0.09, β = 0.312, γ = 1.106, and δ = 4.545, while for Nd0.6Sr0.4MnO3 they are α = 0.11, β = 0.308, γ = 1.172, and δ = 4.75. All these values agree with the three-dimensional (3D)-Ising universality class (α = 0.11, β = 0.3265, γ = 1.237, and δ = 4.79) and are very far away from any other known universality class. This suggests the presence of magnetocrystalline anisotropies in the system that must be taken into account to fully describe the magnetism of these manganites, which deviates from a simple double exchange model
Structural Behavior of Non-Oxide Perovskite Superconductor MgCNi at Pressures up to 32 GPa
We report the pressure dependence of the structural parameters of the
non-oxide perovskite superconductor MgCNi up to 32 GPa using a diamond
anvil cell and synchrotron x-rays at room temperature. The structure of the
compound remains in the Pm-3m cubic symmetry throughout the pressure range. The
bulk modulus GPa with obtained by
fitting the pressure-volume data is in good agreement with theoretical
calculations reported earlier. An anomalous shift of the (111) and (200) lines
observed above 9 GPa indicates a possible local short range distortion that is
consistent with earlier studies.Comment: 9 Pages, 3 Figures, 1 Tabl
Crystal growth and properties of the non-centrosymmetric superconductor, Ru7B3
We describe the crystal growth of high quality single crystals of the
non-centrosymmetric superconductor, Ru7B3 by the floating zone technique, using
an optical furnace equipped with xenon arc lamps. The crystals obtained are
large and suitable for detailed measurements, and have been examined using
x-ray Laue patterns. The superconducting properties of the crystals obtained
have been investigated by magnetisation and resistivity measurements. Crystals
have also been grown starting with enriched 11B isotope, making them suitable
for neutron scattering experiments.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures. Accepted for publication in Journal of Crystal

Observations on the landing of Odonus niger at Mangalore
The redtoothed triggerfish (Odonus niger) of the
family Balistidae is a reef associated species landed
by trawl nets operated along the Karnataka coast. This
species forms dense aggregations in inshore waters
and were not targeted till recently due to their poor
market demand. The triggerfish shoals are intentionally
avoided by the trawlers and the incidental catches are
either discarded or brought ashore when there is
available deck space for storage. Such small quantities
landed are auctioned along with the miscellaneous
fish groups. Some interest was evinced on this species
by the fish meal traders due to limited availability of
raw materials during the year 2008
