Micellar Aggregates of Gemini Surfactants: Monte Carlo Simulation of a Microscopic Model

We propose a "microscopic" model of gemini surfactants in aqueous solution. Carrying out extensive Monte Carlo simulations, we study the variation of the critical micellar concentration (CMC) of these model gemini surfactants with the variation of the (a) length of the spacer connecting the two hydrophilic heads, (b) length of the hydrophobic tail and (c) the bending rigidity of the hydrocarbon chains forming the spacer and the tail; some of the trends of variation are counter-intuitive but are in excellent agreement with the available experimental results. Our simulations also elucidate the dependence of the shapes of the micellar aggregates and the magnitude of the CMC on the geometrical shape and size of the surfactant molecules and the electrical charge on the hydrophilic heads

Bifurcated Elementary Sister-Schools: Do They Affect Student Growth During Transition Years?

The purpose of this study was to determine whether students who attend a sister-school modeled elementary school experience a negatively disproportionate amount of academic growth the year students transition from the primary school to the elementary school in third grade. This study looked at two different elementary grade span configurations, the traditional PreK–5 model and the 3–5 sister-school model, to determine if there is a difference between third grade student academic growth in different grade configurations. Four sample schools agreed to participate in the study and were paired based on their grade span configuration and demographics. The sample schools provided data from a nationally normed test, the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) Test, in order to determine the most beneficial grade configuration. The MAP Test data was collected, represented in data tables and bar graphs, and analyzed using two statistical analysis t-tests. The results revealed that there was not a statistically significant difference in the amount of student academic growth the year students transition to third grade between the two different grade-span configurations tested. The results of this study were used to create an implementation plan to assist schools who may experience a negatively disproportionate amount of academic growth the year their students transition to a 3–5 sister-school modeled elementary school, even though this study found that there should not be a significant difference the year after the students transition

Gestión directiva y las competencias digitales de los docentes en las instituciones educativas de la Red 11 de Ate – 2018

La presente investigación: gestión directiva y las competencias digitales de los docentes en las instituciones educativas de la Red 11 de Ate - 2018. El objetivo fue determinar la relación entre estas variables. La metodología con un diseño no experimental, de tipo descriptivo correlacional de corte transversal. La población 164 y muestra 116 docentes, de cinco colegios. La variable uno tuvo 15 preguntas y la segunda 24, en la escala del tipo Likert. Preguntas para la variable uno: total desacuerdo, en desacuerdo, indeciso, de acuerdo y Total de acuerdo, para la segunda fueron: siempre, casi siempre, a veces, casi nunca y nunca, estos instrumentos fueron validados y se aprobó su confiabilidad realizada con el coeficiente de Alpha de Cronbach. Se verifico la correlación a través del coeficiente de Rho de Spearman cuyo efecto fue = 0.454** expresado como moderada, con una relación positiva entre las variables, y un nivel de significancia bilateral de ρ = 0.000 (ρ < 0.01); por lo tanto, se refutó la hipótesis nula y se aceptó la hipótesis general indicando como moderada y el análisis de coeficiente de correlación de Rho Spearman fue de 0,454, demostrando que hay una mediana relación entre las dos variables

Marketing Digital en Pymes Argentinas Escenario actual, Oportunidades y Desafíos

Las pymes en Argentina son consideradas el corazón productivo del país, siendo 600.000 y creando aproximadamente el 65% del empleo formal en 2016. En un mundo atravesado por la llamada tercera revolución industrial donde Internet y el resto de las tecnologías digitales se encuentran transformando la forma en la que consumimos, producimos y vivimos en general. Es crítico que las empresas argentinas y en especial las pymes puedan adaptarse a esta nueva realidad. En particular, la aparición del marketing digital abre una gran puerta de oportunidad, pero también de amenaza para estas. El trabajo busca entonces abordar la relación actual de las pymes argentinas con el marketing digital, las barreras que encuentran para su adopción y las mejores prácticas recomendadas. Para esto se acudió a bibliografía especializada sobre marketing digital, se analizaron casos de éxito en su adopción y se entrevistaron a distintas pymes con baja o nula utilización de este tipo de marketing. También se profundizó sobre el panorama actual del mundo pyme argentino y la penetración de Internet en el territorio. Como primera conclusión se evidenció que existe verdaderamente una oportunidad para las pymes argentinas de adentrarse al mundo online debido a la evolución del comportamiento de la población argentina en cuanto al uso de este medio. Internet se encuentra ya partícipe de casi todas las actividades que realizan la mayoría de los argentinos: el medio digital es donde trabajan, se entretienen, comunican, buscan información y compran. El marketing digital con sus distintas herramientas provee a las pymes la posibilidad de sacar provecho de este cambio en el comportamiento de la población, pero lamentablemente no se encuentra adoptada en profundidad por las pymes argentinas. En cuanto a las razones de porqué esta oportunidad no es aprovechada en su totalidad, la principal es la falta de capacitación y conocimiento de las pymes en esta materia. En un mundo altamente competitivo y globalizado como el actual, es fundamental que el conocimiento en herramientas digitales no quede en unos pocos, sino que la capacitación masiva en las mismas sea una política del Ministerio de Educación

Factors associated with quality of life among children with epilepsy in Iloilo City as perceived by their parents

Abstract onlyQuality of life (QOL), composed of four domains (cognitive, emotional, social, and physical is a recent focus of management of chronic diseases. This study aimed to determine the factors that can influence the QOL of CWE (children with epilepsy) including CWE’s characteristics, parent’s characteristics, knowledge about epilepsy, and adherence to the prescribed regimen. One-shot survey design was utilized. SPSS 20 was used to analyze the data. There were 72 respondents from the pediatric neurology clinics in Iloilo City, Philippines. A self-administered questionnaire, including QOLCIE-55 (Goodwin et al., 2015), was used for data collection. Results of the study showed that epilepsy is prevalent among female adolescents. Most had their first seizure attack when they were pre-schoolers and reported having 0-5 seizures for the past four months. Although knowledge is high, misconceptions about the condition still exist. Adherence to the prescribed medication regimen was also poor. Cognitive, emotional, social, and overall QOL were high but physical QOL was low. Parent’s sex, educational attainment, and monthly income influenced knowledge about epilepsy while the parent's age only had a bearing to adherence. Schooling status was a good predictor of the QOL in all domains. Age of seizure onset also had a bearing on all areas except emotional functioning. Chronological age is related to cognitive, social, and overall QOL while family income influenced the emotional, physical and overall QOL. Increased knowledge about the condition did not equate to increase in adherence to the prescribed regimen. The overall QOL and social domain were influenced by both knowledge and adherence scores. With these findings, the QOL of CWEs must be given attention by healthcare practitioners and in academic institutions.Includes bibliographical referencesMaster of Arts in Nursin

O cerco à basílica da natividade: a construção jornalística do conflito

Demonstra como jornais impressos de diferentes países construíram, cada um, sua cobertura sobre o episódio do cerco à Basílica da Natividade, na Cisjordânia. Analisa-se de maneira geral a cobertura internacional do conflito, ocorrido durante os meses de abril e maio de 2002, e de forma mais aprofundada, o conteúdo publicado nos primeiros e últimos dias do cerco. A pesquisa compreende a cobertura dos jornais “O Globo”, “A Folha de S. Paulo”, “O Estado de S. Paulo”, “ The New York Times” e “Le Monde”. O projeto inclui também uma reflexão sociológica sobre o conceito de conflito e uma breve análise histórica a respeito das disputas entre palestinos e israelenses. Compreender adequadamente estes dois aspectos mostra-se fundamental para analisar a produção de sentido através da cobertura jornalística
