Emigration in the Second Edition of the Encyclopaedia of Yugoslavia

Uvodni dio teksta sažeto iznosi nastajanja oko abecediranja s posebnim osvrtom na abecedarij Enciklopedije Jugoslavije. Predstavljeni su prostorni okviri struka te iseljeništva među njima. Autor iznosi osnovne podatke o prvoj verziji abecedarija struke i analizu uočenih nedostataka – uglavnom asimetriju u odnosu na raspored građe, izbor ličnosti i pojmova. Središnji dio teksta bavi se emendacijama abecedarija struke iseljeništvo, a navode se i nove jedinice kojima se nastoje postići poboljšanja. Kratkom informacijom upozoreni su čitatelji na osnovne značajke članka o iseljeništvu koji je objavljen u V knjizi Enciklopedije Jugoslavije.In the introductory part of the paper the author summarises the forming up of alphabetical lists of entries, with a special regard to the list of entries of the Encyclopaedia of Yugoslavia. The number of lines distributed to the basic branches of knowledge is compared to those assigned to emigration and its drawbacks which are to be found mainly in the lack of symmetry regarding the proportions of material, biographical and non-biographical subject-matter. The central part of the paper is concerned with the emendations of the list of entries on emigration. The new entries are quoted in detail with a purpose of showing the extent of improvements made. Very briefly the reader’s attention is drawn to the basic characteristics of the article on the Yugoslav emigration published in the 5th volume of the Encyclopaedia of Yugoslavia

Posljednjih godina širenjem saznanja o našim stranim rječnicima učinjeni su zamjetljivi pomaci koji novim i žarčim svjetlom obasjavaju izvorište hrvatske leksikografije. Već poznati glosariji, aneksni rječnici i registri riječi proširuju se novim predodžbama. Stjecajem novih spoznaja više svjetla pada na nedovoljno poznat srednjovjekovni kodeks kojega bi značenje bilo od neprocjenjive vrijednosti za hrvatsku leksikografiju. Autor iznosi neke indicije koje daju naslutiti da prvi hrvatski rukopisni, višejezični, terminološki i slikovni rječnik prethodi petojezičniku Fausta Vrančića čak za stoljeće i pol. Rasprava opisuje kodeks, govori o njegovu autorstvu te prijeporima koji su raščlambama toga rukopisna rječnika otvoreni.Recent research has shed new light on the beginnings of Croatian lexicography. Now it is possible to say more about a medieval codex whose importance to Croatian lexicography is invaluable. The author presents a few clues which allow us to believe that the first Croatian multilingual, terminological, picture dictionary was compiled a century and a half before the five-language dictionary of Faust Vrančić. The article describes the codex, its authorships and the efforts to analyze this manuscript dictionary

Julije Bajamonti i počeci anglistike u Hrvatskoj

After an introductory bibliographic note, the author shifts his attention to the philological work of the famous polygraph Julije Bajamonti (Split, 1744-1800). In the central section of the paper, the author puts forward the theses, that the beginning of Anglistic studies in Croatia should be placed, thanks to Bajamonti, in 1780-s. The author supports his thesis with the new philologie materials, which were recently found in the Split Museum of Archeology. He concludes his presentation by stating that Bajamonti’s manuscripts and his unfinished dictionaries (Encyclopaedic, Music and Chemistry dictionaries) not only prove him to be one of the most distinguished Croatian Encyclopedist, but they also establish him as one of the pioneers of the vast and influental English cultural circle, as well as an ambassador of the Croatian-English cultural relations

Polymer Mechanochemistry: A New Frontier for Physical Organic Chemistry

© 2018 Elsevier Ltd Polymer mechanochemistry aims at understanding and exploiting the unique chemistry that is possible when stretching macromolecular chains beyond their strain-free contour lengths. This happens when chains are subject to a mechanical load, in bulk, in solution, at interfaces or as single molecules in air. Simple polymers such as polystyrene or polymethacrylate fragment via homolysis of a backbone C–C bond, and much contemporary effort in polymer mechanochemistry has focused on creating polymers which undergo more complex and interesting reactions, with such productive mechanochemical responses including mechanochromism and load strengthening. Comparatively less progress has been achieved in creating an internally coherent, theoretically sound interpretational framework to organize, systematize, and generalize the existing manifestations of polymer mechanochemistry and to guide the design of new mechanochemical systems. The experimental, computational, and conceptual tools of physical organic chemistry appear particularly well suited to achieve this goal, benefiting both fields
