On the Gorenstein and -cohomological dimensions
We prove that for any discrete group with finite
-cohomological dimension, the Gorenstein cohomological dimension
equals the -cohomological dimension. This is achieved by
constructing a long exact sequence of cohomological functors, analogous to that
constructed by Avramov and Martsinkovsky, containing the
-cohomology and complete -cohomology. As a
corollary we improve upon a theorem of Degrijse concerning subadditivity of the
-cohomological dimension under group extensions.Comment: 13 pages, no figure
Quasi-automorphisms of the infinite rooted 2-edge-coloured binary tree
We study the groupQV , the self-maps of the infinite 2-edge coloured binary tree which preserve the edge and colour relations at cofinitely many locations. We introduce related groups QF , QT , zQ T , and zQV , prove that QF , zQ T , and zQV are of type F1, and calculate finite presentations for them. We calculate the normal subgroup structure of all 5 groups, the Bieri-Neumann-Strebel-Renz invariants of QF , and discuss the relationship of all 5 groups with other generalisations of Thompson's groups.</p
Concerns with AED conversion: comparison of patient and physician perspectives.
When discussing AED conversion in the clinic, both the patient and physician perspectives on the goals and risks of this change are important to consider. To identify patient-reported and clinician-perceived concerns, a panel of epilepsy specialists was questioned about the topics discussed with patients and the clinician's perspective of patient concerns. Findings of a literature review of articles that report patient-expressed concerns regarding their epilepsy and treatment were also reviewed. Results showed that the specialist panel appropriately identified patient-reported concerns of driving ability, medication cost, seizure control, and medication side effects. Additionally, patient-reported concerns of independence, employment issues, social stigma, medication dependence, and undesirable cognitive effects are important to address when considering and initiating AED conversion
Opioid-sparing effects of perioperative paracetamol and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in children.
Perioperative pain in children can be effectively managed with systemic opioids, but addition of paracetamol or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may reduce opioid requirements and potentially improve analgesia and/or reduce adverse effects
Electronic band gap reduction and intense luminescence in Co and Mn ion-implanted SiO
Cobalt and manganese ions are implanted into SiO over a wide range of
concentrations. For low concentrations, the Co atoms occupy interstitial
locations, coordinated with oxygen, while metallic Co clusters form at higher
implantation concentrations. For all concentrations studied here, Mn ions
remain in interstitial locations and do not cluster. Using resonant x-ray
emission spectroscopy and Anderson impurity model calculations, we determine
the strength of the covalent interaction between the interstitial ions and the
SiO valence band, finding it comparable to Mn and Co monoxides. Further, we
find an increasing reduction in the SiO electronic band gap for increasing
implantation concentration, due primarily to the introduction of Mn- and
Co-derived conduction band states. We also observe a strong increase in a band
of x-ray stimulated luminescence at 2.75 eV after implantation, attributed to
oxygen deficient centers formed during implantation.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
