Film lessons: early cinema for historians of science
Despite much excellent work over the years, the vast history of scientific filmmaking is still largely unknown. Historians of science have long been concerned with visual culture, communication and the public sphere on the one hand, and with expertise, knowledge production and experimental practice on the other. Scientists, we know, drew pictures, took photographs and made three-dimensional models. Rather like models, films could not be printed in journals until the digital era, and this limited their usefulness as evidence. But that did not stop researchers from making movies for projection at conferences as well as in lecture halls, museums and other public venues, not to mention for breaking down into individual frames for analysis. Historians of science are more likely to be found in the library, archive or museum than the darkened screening room, and much work is still needed to demonstrate the major effects of cinema on scientific knowledge. Film may have taken as long to change science as other areas of social life, but one can begin to glimpse important ways in which 'image machines' (cameras, projectors and the like) were beginning to mediate between backstage experimental work and more public demonstration even around 1900.I thank the Wellcome Trust (106553) for support

Получены данные о составляющих и ведущих детерминантах, определяющих необходимый уровень организованности тренера для выполнения задач управленческой деятельности
Interdisciplinary Team Approach in Fall Prevention: Physician Perspective Focus
An in-hospital fall is a devastating event for patients and care providers resulting in injuries, physiological and psychological patient declines, and sometimes deaths. Furthermore, fall related costs greatly increase hospitals’ expenses and cause massive distress to caregivers and health providers. Many patient-specific, organizational, and seemingly erratic factors contribute to the occurrence of in-hospital falls. Despite this, hospitals must undertake consistent evidence-based measures to prevent fall occurrences as much as possible.
The traditional nursing approach to falls prevention is not sufficient to control fall rates because the issue is too complex and must be approached from multiple perspectives rather than just nursing. Therefore, innovative practices and approaches were explored to provide additional fall preventive measures. International and local U.S. practices emphasize the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to falls prevention. This model includes multiple clinicians with diverse backgrounds, such as physicians, physical therapists, and pharmacists, who assess patient fall risks together and implement measures to effectively decrease the risks. Limited guidelines and lack of conclusive research about the interdisciplinary approach lead the team of Master of Science in Nursing Clinical Nurse Leader students to investigate the roles of multidisciplinary team members for falls prevention in great detail. As a result, a blueprint of team role descriptors was created and offered for implementation in the medical-surgical elderly client population unit.
This project provides innovative guidelines for falls prevention. These guidelines have the potential to decrease patient falls by 20-30 % in the hospital. This paper is particularly focused on the physician’s role in fall prevention. In addition, this paper represents a modified compilation of current innovative hospital practices and evidence-based research findings

The Why, the What, the How: Disney, the Population Council, and the Pre-Production of "Family Planning"
Family Planning, a short, animated film made by Walt Disney Productions in 1968, is a touchstone for historians of global population. Since Matthew Connelly's Fatal Misconception: The Struggle to Control World Population (2008) re-energized the field, the film has become a fixture in histories of population control; an irresistible opportunity to namecheck Donald Duck and inject some levity into otherwise sober accounts. Analysis has concentrated on salient features of the film: its construction of an ethnically generic "everyman," its consumerist message, and its coyness about contraception. It typically figures as one of the most significant products of a sustained effort to mobilize mass media in the service of international family planning. Our research mobilizes previously neglected lines of evidence, especially unpublished documents held by the Rockefeller Archive Center (RAC), to shed new light on hidden negotiations and contestations. In drawing from the materials at the RAC — and beyond — we aim to contribute to an increasingly concerted effort to embed questions about media and communication more centrally in histories of reproductive politics
The relationship between emotional intelligence and job performance of call centre leaders
The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between perceived emotional intelligence and job performance among inbound call centre leaders in the medical aid environment. The sample consisted of 268 participants (45 leaders and 223 raters) across different age and race groups. A convenience sample was used, since it was easier to focus on call centre leaders working in the same office. All of the participants completed the 360º Emotional Competency Profiler (ECP) in order to measure emotional intelligence whereas the job performance data were obtained from the management team and an average score of their performance over a one-year period was examined. The research results show that there was no statistically significant relationship between emotional intelligence and job performance among the call centre leaders.M.A. (Industrial and Organisational Psychology )Industrial and Organisational Psycholog
