Statistics of dark matter haloes expected from weak lensing surveys
The distortion of the images of faint high-redshift galaxies can be used to
probe the intervening mass distribution. This weak gravitational lensing effect
has been used recently to study the (projected) mass distribution of several
clusters at intermediate and high redshifts. In addition, the weak lensing
effect can be employed to detect (dark) matter concentrations in the Universe,
based on their mass properties alone. Thus it is feasible to obtain a
mass-selected sample of `clusters', and thereby probe the full range of their
mass-to-light ratios. We study the expected number density of such haloes which
can be detected in ongoing and future deep wide-field imaging surveys, using
the number density of haloes as predicted by the Press-Schechter theory, and
modeling their mass profile by the `universal' density profile found by
Navarro, Frenk & White. We find that in all cosmological models considered, the
number density of haloes with a signal-to-noise ratio larger than 5 exceeds 10
per square degree. With the planned MEGACAM imaging survey of ,
it will be easily possible to distinguish between the most commonly discussed

Recommendations for the Transition to Open Access in Austria
Based on 16 recommendations, efforts should be made to achieve the following goal: By 2025, a large part of all scholarly publication activity in Austria should be Open Access. In other words, the final versions of most scholarly publications (in particular all refereed journal articles and conference proceedings) resulting from the support of public resources must be freely accessible on the Internet without delay (Gold Open Access). This goal should be pursued by taking into account the different disciplinary practices and under consideration of the different disciplinary priorisations of Open Access. The resources required to meet this obligation shall be provided to the authors, or the cost of the publication venues shall be borne directly by the research organisations. The necessary funding must be brought in line with the overall funding priorities for research
A First Search for coincident Gravitational Waves and High Energy Neutrinos using LIGO, Virgo and ANTARES data from 2007
We present the results of the first search for gravitational wave bursts
associated with high energy neutrinos. Together, these messengers could reveal
new, hidden sources that are not observed by conventional photon astronomy,
particularly at high energy. Our search uses neutrinos detected by the
underwater neutrino telescope ANTARES in its 5 line configuration during the
period January - September 2007, which coincided with the fifth and first
science runs of LIGO and Virgo, respectively. The LIGO-Virgo data were analysed
for candidate gravitational-wave signals coincident in time and direction with
the neutrino events. No significant coincident events were observed. We place
limits on the density of joint high energy neutrino - gravitational wave
emission events in the local universe, and compare them with densities of

Interprofessional Inconsistencies in the Diagnosis of Shoulder Instability: Survey Results of Physicians and Rehabilitation Providers
Background: Clinicians of many specialties within sports medicine care for athletes with shoulder instability, but successful outcomes are inconsistent. Consistency across specialties in the diagnosis of shoulder instability is critical for care of the athlete, yet the extent of divergence in its diagnosis is unknown.
Hypothesis: Physicians differ from rehabilitation providers in which findings they deem clinically important to differentiate shoulder instability from impingement, and in how they diagnose athlete scenarios with atraumatic shoulder instability.
Study Design: Cross-sectional study.
Methods: Physicians (orthopaedic surgeons, primary care sports medicine physicians) and rehabilitation providers (physical therapists, athletic trainers) were asked via an online survey to rate clinical factors used to diagnose shoulder instability. Clinicians were also asked to diagnose two athlete scenarios with concurrent clinical findings of atraumatic shoulder instability and impingement, differentiated by the absence or presence of a positive sulcus sign.
Results: Responses were recorded from 888 clinicians. Orthopaedic surgeons (N=170) and primary care sports medicine physicians (N=108) ranked physical examination factors as more important for the diagnosis of shoulder instability than patient history factors, whereas physical therapists (N=379) and athletic trainers (N=231) preferred patient history factors. Orthopaedic surgeons differed from physical therapists and athletic trainers in their clinical diagnoses for both scenarios (P≤0.001).
Conclusion: A lack of consistency exists among sports medicine clinicians in recognizing which clinical factors are important when used to diagnose shoulder instability and in diagnoses given with concurrent findings of impingement.

Lymph node metastases are more frequent in paediatric appendiceal NET ≥1.5 cm but without impact on outcome – data from the German MET studies
Background
Paediatric appendiceal neuroendocrine tumours (appNET) are very rare tumours, mostly detected incidentally by histopathological evaluation after appendectomy. Treatment recommendations are based on adult data considering high-risk NET as defined by European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETS) guidelines for completion right-sided hemicolectomy (RHC). Recent data suggest that less aggressive therapy may be justified.
Procedure
Analysis of children and adolescents with appNET prospectively registered with the German Malignant Endocrine Tumour (MET) studies between 1997 and 2022.
Results
By December 2022, 662 patients (64.7% females, 35.3% male) had been reported. Median age was 13.3 years [4.5–17.9], median duration of follow-up 2.2 years [0–10.9]. No distant metastases were reported. Tumour size was 2 cm in 3.2% of patients. WHO grade 1 and 2 tumours were diagnosed in 76.9% and 23.1% of patients, respectively. Lymphovascular invasion and lymph node metastases were associated with tumour size ≥1.5 cm. 27.0% of patients presented with high-risk NET according to ENETS criteria. Of those, only 55.9% underwent secondary oncological right hemicolectomy. Neither distant metastases, nor recurrences or disease-related deaths occurred in patients with appendectomy only as well as in patients with completion RHC. Overall and event-free survival were both 100%.
Conclusions
Internationally harmonized consensus recommendations on treatment of children and adolescents with appendiceal NET are urgently needed to avoid completion RHC in high-risk patients

Search for Neutral Heavy Leptons Produced in Z Decays
Weak isosinglet Neutral Heavy Leptons () have been searched for using data collected by the DELPHI detector corresponding to hadronic~Z decays at LEP1. Four separate searches have been performed, for short-lived production giving monojet or acollinear jet topologies, and for long-lived giving detectable secondary vertices or calorimeter clusters. No indication of the existence of these particles has been found, leading to an upper limit for the branching ratio Z of about at 95\% confidence level for masses between 3.5 and 50 GeV/. Outside this range the limit weakens rapidly with the mass. %Special emphasis has been given to the search for monojet--like topologies. One event %has passed the selection, in agreement with the expectation from the reaction: %. The results are also interpreted in terms of limits for the single production of excited neutrinos
Impacts of the Tropical Pacific/Indian Oceans on the Seasonal Cycle of the West African Monsoon
The current consensus is that drought has developed in the Sahel during the second half of the twentieth century as a result of remote effects of oceanic anomalies amplified by local land–atmosphere interactions. This paper focuses on the impacts of oceanic anomalies upon West African climate and specifically aims to identify those from SST anomalies in the Pacific/Indian Oceans during spring and summer seasons, when they were significant. Idealized sensitivity experiments are performed with four atmospheric general circulation models (AGCMs). The prescribed SST patterns used in the AGCMs are based on the leading mode of covariability between SST anomalies over the Pacific/Indian Oceans and summer rainfall over West Africa. The results show that such oceanic anomalies in the Pacific/Indian Ocean lead to a northward shift of an anomalous dry belt from the Gulf of Guinea to the Sahel as the season advances. In the Sahel, the magnitude of rainfall anomalies is comparable to that obtained by other authors using SST anomalies confined to the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean. The mechanism connecting the Pacific/Indian SST anomalies with West African rainfall has a strong seasonal cycle. In spring (May and June), anomalous subsidence develops over both the Maritime Continent and the equatorial Atlantic in response to the enhanced equatorial heating. Precipitation increases over continental West Africa in association with stronger zonal convergence of moisture. In addition, precipitation decreases over the Gulf of Guinea. During the monsoon peak (July and August), the SST anomalies move westward over the equatorial Pacific and the two regions where subsidence occurred earlier in the seasons merge over West Africa. The monsoon weakens and rainfall decreases over the Sahel, especially in August.Peer reviewe
Severe early onset preeclampsia: short and long term clinical, psychosocial and biochemical aspects
Preeclampsia is a pregnancy specific disorder commonly defined as de novo hypertension
and proteinuria after 20 weeks gestational age. It occurs in approximately 3-5% of pregnancies and it is still a major cause of both foetal and maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide1. As extensive research has not yet elucidated the aetiology of preeclampsia, there are no rational preventive or therapeutic interventions
available. The only rational treatment is delivery, which benefits the mother but is not in the interest of the foetus, if remote from term. Early onset preeclampsia (<32 weeks’ gestational age) occurs in less than 1% of pregnancies. It is, however often associated with maternal morbidity as the risk of progression
to severe maternal disease is inversely related with gestational age at onset2. Resulting prematurity is therefore the main cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity
in patients with severe preeclampsia3. Although the discussion is ongoing, perinatal survival is suggested to be increased in patients with preterm preeclampsia
by expectant, non-interventional management. This temporising treatment option to lengthen pregnancy includes the use of antihypertensive medication to control hypertension, magnesium sulphate to prevent eclampsia and corticosteroids
to enhance foetal lung maturity4. With optimal maternal haemodynamic status and reassuring foetal condition this results on average in an extension of 2 weeks. Prolongation of these pregnancies is a great challenge for clinicians to balance between potential maternal risks on one the eve hand and possible foetal benefits on the other. Clinical controversies regarding prolongation of preterm preeclamptic pregnancies still exist – also taking into account that preeclampsia is the leading cause of maternal mortality in the Netherlands5 - a debate which is even more pronounced in very preterm pregnancies with questionable foetal viability6-9. Do maternal risks of prolongation of these very early pregnancies outweigh
the chances of neonatal survival? Counselling of women with very early onset preeclampsia not only comprises of knowledge of the outcome of those particular pregnancies, but also knowledge of outcomes of future pregnancies of these women is of major clinical importance.
