    Magnetic Field Pinning of a Dynamic Electron-Spin-Resonance Line in a GaAs/AlGaAs Heterostructure

    Electrically detected electron spin resonance (ESR) is used to study the hyperfine interaction of the two-dimensional electrons and the nuclei of the host lattice in a GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure. Under the microwave and radio- frequency double excitations, we have observed that the ESR line can be pinned in a very narrow range of magnetic field - in the vicinity of the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of the nuclei of the GaAs crystal. Our observations suggest that this pinning effect is the result of a competition process between the ESR induced dynamic nuclear polarization and the NMR induced depolarization.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    Tourism curriculum in the University Sector: Does it meet future requirements? Evidence from Australia

    In the contemporary competitive and globally connected marketplace, factors that guaranteed business success in the past may be of limited relevance in the future. Within the paradigms of today’s business, many successful operators continually introduce new products and services to maintain their market leadership position. Whilst firms in the tourism industry seek to maintain competitive position through policy planning, strategic marketing, budgeting and R&D, tourism education providers occupy a key position by seeking to enhance the skill levels of management and employees, both present and future. This paper reviews some Australian tourism and hospitality education programmes and course curriculum and briefly compares them with some trends in other English-speaking countries. The research explores tourism industry demand, trainees’ expectations and additionally identifies gaps and opportunities for the future curriculum content. The findings may, therefore, assist tourism programme providers with a broader perspective with which to shape future tourism courses

    Complexity and trust – experiences from local Danish Food Communities

    Generally food consumers in Denmark do not trust the food production and distribution systems and the management of risk related to food consumption has become part of the daily life of many (Halkier & Holm, 2004). This paper explores how relations of trust are formed in two local Danish Food Communities (Fødevarefællesskaber) in Aarhus and Copenhagen. Food Communities are communities of consumers organized around the provision of local fresh vegetables directly from local producers. The Food Communities, together with local farmers, share the responsibilities, normally carried out by other market actors, such as logistics, sale and price formation. The vegetables are sold to the members of the community, at a relatively low price, if they take part in the duty work related to the food provisioning. The community functions despite no binding or long term agreements are made between the communities and the producers. The aim of this paper is to evaluate what role trust plays in order for the communities to function. Focus is given to 1) the mechanisms that create and maintain trust between the actors and 2) the challenges that the relations of trust are exposed to and 3) how the communities are dealing with these challenges

    Photofragmentation of the H_3 molecule, including Jahn-Teller coupling effects

    We have developed a theoretical method for interpretation of photoionization experiments with the H_3 molecule. In the present study we give a detailed description of the method, which combines multichannel quantum defect theory, the adiabatic hyperspherical approach, and the techniques of outgoing Siegert pseudostates. The present method accounts for vibrational and rotation excitations of the molecule, deals with all symmetry restrictions imposed by the geometry of the molecule, including vibrational, rotational, electronic and nuclear spin symmetries. The method was recently applied to treat dissociative recombination of the H_3^+ ion. Since H_3^+ dissociative recombination has been a controversial problem, the present study also allows us to test the method on the process of photoionization, which is understood better than dissociative recombination. Good agreement with two photoionization experiments is obtained.Comment: 10 figure

    The field guide runs from Hamilton to Waitomo to Te Anga and return in limestone-dominated country developed in transgressive sedimentary deposits of the Oligocene Te Kuiti Group – a world class example of a temperate shelf carbonate depositional system. Attention focuses on the nature, distribution and paleoenvironmental controls of the main limestone facies and some of the mixed terrigenous-carbonate facies in the Group. Along the way features of the Waitomo karst landscape are noted and the trip concludes by going underground in the Ruakuri Cave to discuss cave origins and the evidence for paleoenvironmental changes locked up in speleothems
