Darboux transformation for two component derivative nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation
In this paper, we consider the two component derivative nonlinear
Schr\"{o}dinger equation and present a simple Darboux transformation for it. By
iterating this Darboux transformation, we construct a compact representation

Toward link predictability of complex networks
The organization of real networks usually embodies both regularities and irregularities, and, in principle, the former can be modeled. The extent to which the formation of a network can be explained coincides with our ability to predict missing links. To understand network organization, we should be able to estimate link predictability. We assume that the regularity of a network is reflected in the consistency of structural features before and after a random removal of a small set of links. Based on the perturbation of the adjacency matrix, we propose a universal structural consistency index that is free of prior knowledge of network organization. Extensive experiments on disparate real-world networks demonstrate that (i) structural consistency is a good estimation of link predictability and (ii) a derivative algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art link prediction methods in both accuracy and robustness. This analysis has further applications in evaluating link prediction algorithms and monitoring sudden changes in evolving network mechanisms. It will provide unique fundamental insights into the above-mentioned academic research fields, and will foster the development of advanced information filtering technologies of interest to information technology practitioners
Temporal and Spatial Variability of Precipitation from Observations and Models
Principal component analysis (PCA) is utilized to explore the temporal and spatial variability of precipitation from GPCP and a CAM5 simulation from 1979 to 2010. In the tropical region, the interannual variability of tropical precipitation is characterized by two dominant modes (El Niño and El Niño Modoki). The first and second modes of tropical GPCP precipitation capture 31.9% and 15.6% of the total variance, respectively. The first mode has positive precipitation anomalies over the western Pacific and negative precipitation anomalies over the central and eastern Pacific. The second mode has positive precipitation anomalies over the central Pacific and negative precipitation anomalies over the western and eastern Pacific. Similar variations are seen in the first two modes of tropical precipitation from a CAM5 simulation, although the magnitudes are slightly weaker than in the observations. Over the Northern Hemisphere (NH) high latitudes, the first mode, capturing 8.3% of the total variance of NH GPCP precipitation, is related to the northern annular mode (NAM). During the positive phase of NAM, there are negative precipitation anomalies over the Arctic and positive precipitation anomalies over the midlatitudes. Over the Southern Hemisphere (SH) high latitudes, the first mode, capturing 13.2% of the total variance of SH GPCP precipitation, is related to the southern annular mode (SAM). During the positive phase of the SAM, there are negative precipitation anomalies over the Antarctic and positive precipitation anomalies over the midlatitudes. The CAM5 precipitation simulation demonstrates similar results to those of the observations. However, they do not capture both the high precipitation anomalies over the northern Pacific Ocean or the position of the positive precipitation anomalies in the SH
Spin-Wave Theory of the Multiple-Spin Exchange Model on a Triangular Lattice in a Magnetic Field : 3-Sublattice Structures
We study the spin wave in the S=1/2 multiple-spin exchange model on a
triangular lattice in a magnetic field within the linear spin-wave theory. We
take only two-, three- and four-spin exchange interactions into account and
restrict ourselves to the region where a coplanar three-sublattice state is the
mean-field ground state. We found that the Y-shape ground state survives
quantum fluctuations and the phase transition to a phase with a 6-sublattice
structure occurs with softening of the spin wave. We estimated the quantum
corrections to the ground state sublattice magnetizations due to zero-point

Projected wave functions for fractionalized phases of quantum spin systems
Gutzwiller projection allows a construction of an assortment of variational
wave functions for strongly correlated systems. For quantum spin S=1/2 models,
Gutzwiller-projected wave functions have resonating-valence-bond structure and
may represent states with fractional quantum numbers for the excitations. Using
insights obtained from field-theoretical descriptions of fractionalization in
two dimensions, we construct candidate wave functions of fractionalized states
by projecting specific superconducting states. We explicitly demonstrate the

Nurse employment contracts in Chinese hospitals: impact of inequitable benefit structures on nurse and patient satisfaction
PURPOSE: Ongoing economic and health system reforms in China have transformed nurse employment in Chinese hospitals. Employment of ‘bianzhi’ nurses, a type of position with state-guaranteed lifetime employment that has been customary since 1949, is decreasing while there is an increase in the contract-based nurse employment with limited job security and reduced benefits. The consequences of inequities between the two types of nurses in terms of wages and job-related benefits are unknown. This study examined current rates of contract-based nurse employment and the effects of the new nurse contract employment strategy on nurse and patient outcomes in Chinese hospitals. METHODS: This cross-sectional study used geographically representative survey data collected from 2008 to 2010 from 181 hospitals in six provinces, two municipalities, and one autonomous region in China. Logistic regression models were used to estimate the association between contract-based nurse utilization, dissatisfaction among contract-based nurses, nurse intentions to leave their positions, and patient satisfaction, controlling for nurse, patient, and hospital characteristics. PRINCIPAL RESULTS: Hospital-level utilization of contract-based nurses varies greatly from 0 to 91%, with an average of 51%. Contract-based nurses were significantly more dissatisfied with their remuneration and benefits than ‘bianzhi’ nurses who have more job security (P <0.01). Contract-based nurses who were dissatisfied with their salary and benefits were more likely to intend to leave their current positions (P <0.01). Hospitals with high levels of dissatisfaction with salary and benefits among contract-based nurses were rated lower and less likely to be recommended by patients (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest a high utilization of contract-based nurses in Chinese hospitals, and that the inequities in benefits between contract-based nurses and ‘bianzhi’ nurses may adversely affect both nurse and patient satisfaction in hospitals. Our study provides empirical support for the ‘equal pay for equal work’ policy emphasized by the China Ministry of Health’s recent regulations, and calls for efforts in Chinese hospitals to eliminate the disparities between ‘bianzhi’ and contract-based nurses
The global energy balance of Titan
The global energy budget of planets and their moons is a critical factor to influence the climate change on these objects. Here we report the first measurement of the global emitted power of Titan. Long-term (2004–2010) observations conducted by the Composite Infrared Spectrometer (CIRS) onboard Cassini reveal that the total emitted power by Titan is (2.84 ± 0.01) × 10^(14) watts. Together with previous measurements of the global absorbed solar power of Titan, the CIRS measurements indicate that the global energy budget of Titan is in equilibrium within measurement error. The uncertainty in the absorbed solar energy places an upper limit on the energy imbalance of 6.0%
Singularly Perturbed Monotone Systems and an Application to Double Phosphorylation Cycles
The theory of monotone dynamical systems has been found very useful in the
modeling of some gene, protein, and signaling networks. In monotone systems,
every net feedback loop is positive. On the other hand, negative feedback loops
are important features of many systems, since they are required for adaptation
and precision. This paper shows that, provided that these negative loops act at
a comparatively fast time scale, the main dynamical property of (strongly)
monotone systems, convergence to steady states, is still valid. An application
is worked out to a double-phosphorylation ``futile cycle'' motif which plays a

Discovery and Follow-up Observations of the Young Type Ia Supernova 2016coj
The Type~Ia supernova (SN~Ia) 2016coj in NGC 4125 (redshift ) was
discovered by the Lick Observatory Supernova Search 4.9 days after the fitted
first-light time (FFLT; 11.1 days before -band maximum). Our first detection
(pre-discovery) is merely day after the FFLT, making SN 2016coj one
of the earliest known detections of a SN Ia. A spectrum was taken only 3.7 hr
after discovery (5.0 days after the FFLT) and classified as a normal SN Ia. We
performed high-quality photometry, low- and high-resolution spectroscopy, and
spectropolarimetry, finding that SN 2016coj is a spectroscopically normal SN
Ia, but with a high velocity of \ion{Si}{2} 6355 (\,\kms\
around peak brightness). The \ion{Si}{2} 6355 velocity evolution can
be well fit by a broken-power-law function for up to a month after the FFLT. SN
2016coj has a normal peak luminosity ( mag), and it
reaches a -band maximum \about16.0~d after the FFLT. We estimate there to be
low host-galaxy extinction based on the absence of Na~I~D absorption lines in
our low- and high-resolution spectra. The spectropolarimetric data exhibit weak
polarization in the continuum, but the \ion{Si}{2} line polarization is quite
