Pion Interferometry From A Relativistic Fluid With A First Order Phase Transition In CERN-SPS 158 GeV/A Pb+Pb Collisions
We investigate pion source sizes through the Yano-Koonin-Podgoretski\u{\i}
(YKP) parametrization for the Hanbury-Brown Twiss (HBT) effect in the CERN-SPS
158 GeV/A central collisions. We calculate two-particle correlation functions
numerically based on a (3+1)-dimensional relativistic hydrodynamics with a
first order phase transition and analyze the pair momentum dependence of the
HBT radii extracted from the YKP parametrization in detail. We find that even
in the case of a first order phase transition, expansion and the surface
dominant freeze-out make the source in the hydrodynamical model opaque
significantly. Consequently, the interpretation of the temporal radius
parameter as the time duration becomes unavailable for the hydrodynamical

Analysis of one- and two-particle spectra at RHIC based on a hydrodynamical model
We calculate the one-particle hadronic spectra and correlation functions of
pions based on a hydrodynamical model. Parameters in the model are so chosen
that the one-particle spectra reproduce experimental results of
GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. Based on the numerical solution,
we discuss the space-time evolution of the fluid. Two-pion correlation
functions are also discussed. Our numerical solution suggests the formation of

Live imaging of whole mouse embryos during gastrulation : migration analyses of epiblast and mesodermal cells
During gastrulation in the mouse embryo, dynamic cell movements including epiblast invagination and mesodermal layer expansion lead to the establishment of the three-layered body plan. The precise details of these movements, however, are sometimes elusive, because of the limitations in live imaging. To overcome this problem, we developed techniques to enable observation of living mouse embryos with digital scanned light sheet microscope (DSLM). The achieved deep and high time-resolution images of GFP-expressing nuclei and following 3D tracking analysis revealed the following findings: (i) Interkinetic nuclear migration (INM) occurs in the epiblast at embryonic day (E)6 and 6.5. (ii) INM-like migration occurs in the E5.5 embryo, when the epiblast is a monolayer and not yet pseudostratified. (iii) Primary driving force for INM at E6.5 is not pressure from neighboring nuclei. (iv) Mesodermal cells migrate not as a sheet but as individual cells without coordination
Progression of myopathology in Kearns-Sayre syndrome
We report on the progression of myopathology by comparing two biopsies from a patient with a Kearns-Sayre-Syndrome. The first biopsy was taken in 1979 and showed 10% ragged-red fibers. Myopathic changes were slight including internal nuclei and fiber splitting in 10% of the fibers. Electron microscopy revealed typical mitochondrial abnormalities with regard to number and shape. In 1989 a second biopsy was performed for an extended analysis of mitochondrial DNA. This time less than 5% of all fibers were ragged-red. Severe myopathic changes could be detected which so far has rarely been reported in mitochondrial cytopathy
Organizational impact of evidence-informed decision making training initiatives : a case study comparison of two approaches
Background
The impact of efforts by healthcare organizations to enhance the use of evidence to improve organizational processes through training programs has seldom been assessed. We therefore endeavored to assess whether and how the training of mid- and senior-level healthcare managers could lead to organizational change.
Methods
We conducted a theory-driven evaluation of the organizational impact of healthcare leaders’ participation in two training programs using a logic model based on Nonaka’s theory of knowledge conversion. We analyzed six case studies nested within the two programs using three embedded units of analysis (individual, group and organization). Interviews were conducted during intensive one-week data collection site visits. A total of 84 people were interviewed.
Results
We found that the impact of training could primarily be felt in trainees’ immediate work environments. The conversion of attitudes was found to be easier to achieve than the conversion of skills. Our results show that, although socialization and externalization were common in all cases, a lack of combination impeded the conversion of skills. We also identified several individual, organizational and program design factors that facilitated and/or impeded the dissemination of the attitudes and skills gained by trainees to other organizational members.
Conclusions
Our theory-driven evaluation showed that factors before, during and after training can influence the extent of skills and knowledge transfer. Our evaluation went further than previous research by revealing the influence—both positive and negative—of specific organizational factors on extending the impact of training programs
Apm4, the mu subunit of yeast AP-2 interacts with Pkc1, and mutation of the Pkc1 consensus phosphorylation site Thr176 inhibits AP-2 recruitment to endocytic sites.
The AP-2 endocytic adaptor has been extensively characterized in mammalian cells and is considered to play a role both in cargo binding and in formation of endocytic sites. However, despite our detailed knowledge of mechanistic aspects of endocytic complex assembly and disassembly in the model organism Saccharomyces cerevisiae, no function of AP-2 had been described in wild-type yeast under normal growth conditions. A recent study however revealed that disruption of the complex caused by deletion of the gene encoding its mu subunit (APM4) caused defects in cell polarity such that responses to pheromone, nutritional status and cell wall damage were affected. Furthermore, a homozygous deletion of the mu subunit gene in Candida albicans affected its ability to grow hyphae. Direct binding to the yeast cell wall stress sensor Mid2 was detected, and in an apm4 deletion strain Mid2 showed reduced re-localization to the mother bud neck region following cell wall damage with calcofluor or to the mating projection tip. Here we demonstrate an interaction between Apm4 and the yeast cell wall integrity pathway component Pkc1 and show that mutation of the predicted Pkc1 site in the Apm4 hinge region affects recruitment of the AP-2 complex to endocytic sites
Hydrodynamical evolution near the QCD critical end point
Hydrodynamical calculations have been successful in describing global
observables in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions, which aim to observe the
production of the quark-gluon plasma. On the other hand, recently, a lot of
evidence that there exists a critical end point (CEP) in the QCD phase diagram
has been accumulating. Nevertheless, so far, no equation of state with the CEP
has been employed in hydrodynamical calculations. In this paper, we construct
the equation of state with the CEP on the basis of the universality hypothesis
and show that the CEP acts as an attractor of isentropic trajectories. We also
consider the time evolution in the case with the CEP and discuss how the CEP
affects the final state observables, such as the correlation length,
fluctuation, chemical freezeout, kinetic freezeout, and so on. Finally, we
argue that the anomalously low kinetic freezeout temperature at the BNL
Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider suggests the possibility of the existence of
